I think it will be a longggg time before clerics, possibly shaman and a few other classes replace the shawl unless they nerf how the mana recovery works. As it stands, any cleric with a shawl has unlimited mana.
It's trivial to max research even as a melee. I'd like to see items like this useful for all, and obsoleted for all on the same time frame. We don't need to keep feeding quests that were in theory useful to all but in reality favours certain classes. I'm kinda tired of my clicks I work just as hard as other classes for being more or less useless while some classes keep them forever. (yes, I guess my epic is useful - the bonus hp's I gain are almost worth 1/5 of an average hit unless someone drops a hp banner - in which case it's useless)
Symp proc as a "normal" part of itemization as opposed to being limited to weapon-ish items and augs. T3+ RoF might have one or more such items, next expansion will likely have such items, at some point max/min proc rates won't include Shawl. This might take years for some classes but Shawl is on it's way out as opposed to Necro Epic and Cleric HP Aura which have no apparent alternative in the pipeline.
Shawl 4life. I will replace my shawl someday when some item with a better effect comes along. The less than stellar stats as compared to current raid loot is entirely irrelevant. I liken it to the necro epic: effect > stats.
Paladin. Bagged mine in VoA. Had switched to rune tank one in HoT when I stopped raiding, switched it to the mana return one and bagged it in VoA when I started raiding again, can switch it in if needed that way but not lose the ac/hp/heroics for tanking.
This would be nice Trajet, and will likely become the case. I can fully appreciate the epicness of my shawl, and may never unequip it as the extra rune chance is just worth too much to ever drop. But I know full well how horrible getting every single TS to 300 is, and doing all the quests, AND being in a raid guild at the right time with the right DKP to acquire a head can be. You never saw me miss a single minute of a raid at that time, can assure you of that... The results of all that headache, working so hard, will likely mean that devs won't pursue this as it won't benefit that many of their customers, simply enrage those without, etcetera. Probably why there haven't been any new epics since DSK either. I can still hope though, one great solution would be to simply give the belt a slot 11 aug (or some other slot you don't ever really see on a belt), and let us have an aug we can quest to level up so our shawl stays current. Would be able to adjust the belt to the appropriate level for both the grouper and the raider. Or of course the other option already stated, have a single NPC take the belt as a turn in to turn it into a slot 3 aug. Be even faster, and make all shawl owners happy, and give many more a reason to quest for it. I truly do hope they do something like this, as it is gonna seriously hurt to be using an 1800 hp piece of gear in another XP or two.
The issue, of course, is whether the AC/HME increase from modern raid gear (about 40 AC, 1000 HME) overcomes the rune effect, which functions both to block 800 damage every time you proc, but also generate additional AE aggro. Right now i'm not replacing it, but I can see the writing on the wall if it's not allowed to upgrade via an updated quest.
They will need to start fixing the 7th event for shawl 2.0 ' The temper of Silver ' That gnomebot keep geting stuck at the 5th event not updating the task, Trying to finds a work around atm but everyone telling me that it was a well known bug then and still not fixed? If anyone knows a work around let me know thx! Will petition again coz i got other things to do then spentd another 2-3 hrs on something that might not work again...
After some fooling around with the gnomebot, pulling trash and making the gnome rush at them at step 4,3 then back to 4 i got 5th update at the same spot i got 4th at. took about 15min to escort him from location 1 to 4 then over a hrs at step 5th. What are we expecting to think waiting for a hrs not really knowing if we failed or not. You cant put your guard down either because you have hope it wont fail and I would rather not be the cause of that fail! Either spread out the first 4 updates with the 5th or just speed up 5th event =/
The gnomebot has been patched several times, sadly. It's a crapshoot- sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. Congrats on your shawl though- you'll be needing that soon!
I think the 5th update is at the 4th update... should check that up because i just done it twice at the same spot and it went very fast this time. If not well you all know what to try next!
Little bird has informed me this is coming, apparently any w/ final group shawl or convo raid shawl will be able to start a new series of 9 quests(final one involves raid drop again), is an aug too apparently. May need to bother to get my cleric 300 in all TS now.
I would rather have some way of turning the shawl into an augmentation than anything else, maybe restrict to slots the shawl can normally be worn on or whatever. I just won't upgrade the shawl due to my love of the melee effect. I'd be fine with it being a type 3 aug with only the effects of the shawl on it or whatever, but that effect is just not worth dropping even for 1,000-1,500 H/M/E in my book.
1K HEM when you can buff in the 80-100K range really isn't all that much. All a bit moot if it goes live as an aug, however.
Indeed he hasn't. I recall first getting it, took it out for a spin in oceangreen hills area, the poor gnolls couldn't even hurt me any more, just stood there not even attacking for the longest time smiling at them, lol. Obviously not as effective against 12k hitters, but the difference is still very much there. Forgot to mention, the incoming shawl aug is apparently also slot 3. Those who been wanting to do this but been slacking off, now might be the time.
