Riposte is out of control

I'd like to find out if many of you are seeing what I am seeing on raids, and additionally has this trend been going on for years and it has just become exacerbated this year?
It certainly seems much worse this expansion.
I have been seeing most of my incoming damage as riposte strikethrough this year.
Not 51% most.
More like 90% most.
I do not enjoy running my snowcone on raids at all. But if I can keep agro on a mob with out swinging, and take 90% less damage, with my role as a knight being to off tank adds and stay alive, then... its really a no-brainer to go snowcone.
So when I try to analyze my parses, its almost entirely like this:

I intentionally tried to not use snowcone for this event for analysis purposes.
Anyone seeing much different?

I'd been wondering about that, but given my lack of familiarity with everything that has changed over the years including the combat message updates.

Is the Riposte Strikethrough from mobs striking through your ripostes, or their having ripostes against your attacks and striking through whatever defenses you're rolling?

I thought it was the former because tanks now have pretty much hit max ripostes with their hdex when mobs attack their front and it's all I see when tanking unless I'm hit from the flank or rear. It's an easy test to verify either way.

I believe what is happening is that mobs are swinging at me, I riposte, and then they riposte strikethrough against my riposte. Thats why when I run snowcone, I am no longer riposting their attacks and thus, they do not riposte back at me, and I take 90% less damage.
Not a very fun way to play though.

In current raid content, if you're wielding a weapon, check #3 happens, your riposte is so high you very frequently riposte, and the mob's strikethrough is so high that it returns fire and checks #4,5,6 don't happen. So if you were to run with snowglobe you'd exchange a bunch of riposte strikethroughs with dodges/block/avoidances.

It'd be interesting to see a similar parse run with snowglobe to see the dodge/avoidance/block rates. I think Allayna posted another parse similar to your weapon-wielding one, but I don't understand how to interpret it.

This is what I would have thought. The evasion order hasn't changed and still functions as I remember, the main difference being how high heroics can get now thus affecting the rates to the extremes we see now.

The question of how many ripostes one is eating while attacking into a mob's front is a valid one, but simply observing the messages in a chat log over and over isn't necessarily because of this. If I'm riposting at max rate, I'd expect to see a % pierced by mob strike through, as I'd expect to see this same % for other defensive checks overall if I were not riposting.

Still going through my own logs, but wanted to comment on this. I absolutely HATE the log message changes. They simplified way too far and made reading them far more confusing and complicated.

It's generally message spam from mobs striking through you riposting as a tank. Pulled a mob with decent strikethrough, faced it and didn't turn auto attack on. A wall of only (Riposte Strikethrough) spam as it killed itself. Time between messages fitting the mob's attack round delay, which fits with the OP log example.

That old skill check order is incorrect (always and) for a few years since the patch that reduced some server lag.

At HDEX 2500+, ff you get hit then you will riposte (with weapon in harnd) and the NPC must perform a strike through to inflict damage. And they do.

Not avoidance as the miss check happens first now.

Without a weapon and wielding a shield, one can still dodge and shield block only. Using 2 non damage items, one can only dodge. The NPC can and will strike through your dodge or shield block as readily.

If you want to see how much damage you are taking from ripostes, stand in front of a mob when you are not tanking and swing at it.

This is the text you want to look for to find if a mob attacked you with a riposte. what you showed is them striking through your riposte.

EDIT again, it occurs to me i could be wrong and the riposte is me riposting and missing, but i don't think so.

That's why I was confused by the messages since it's not inherently obvious. I think in this case, it's you riposting but missing, and in the cases where you did do damage, it'd be "You Slash Jakarashev for X points of damage (Riposte)". In the cases of striking through their ripostes, I'd imagine it's the lines ending in (Riposte Strikethrough).

Then there are the ridiculously bloated messages like (Riposte Strikethrough Lucky Finishing Blow Flurry)...

I am 100% certain it is not the riposte strikethrough messages, that is your riposte skill activating and the mob striking through your riposte, which if you have about 4k heroic dexterity happens probably 75% of the time in NoS. I am 90% sure it's what I said because rampage and flurry are used in a similar way, for instance

The mob flurried me, and in my first post the mob is riposting me, that makes the most logical sense but, who knows if its logical honestly.

I believe it is. Those are your swings, not the NPC's.

This should be 0 for anyone with 100% Strikethrough chance. War/Ber in TSS, Monk in UF, Hybrids in VoA, Rogue in EoK.

Llu can't riposte and just took a (riposte strikethrough) from a mushroom in Paludal 2 minutes ago.


Is it conflating both types of outcomes together in the bracket text?

knights are 75% it would honestly be surprising to me if that 25% was actually causing this much of a problem.
