Greetings!! I searched for a solution for this problem without any luck. I am trying to download maps. Been looking around on my computer all day for the Everquest file. Since I use Steam will there not be a file on my computer? Also where would be the best place to download the map packs? TIA
I use Internet Explorer. Here is what I do. On desktop right click EQ icon. From dropdown list select: open file location. There usually I have to slide up to see the folders rather than individual files. Select from the folders "maps". When I want to paste something to "maps", I do not have to open the folder but just right click on it and from drop-down select paste. I have heard that sometimes the "maps" folder is hidden; for those circumstances, I have no suggestion.
Steam still installs to your computer, you just need to find where it puts things; I don't play through Seam, so I don't have anything useful to add apart from that.
YMMV on Steam, but for regular users it's Users>Public>Sony Online Entertainment>Installed Games>Everquest>Maps. If it's not there, just do a search for Everquest. Eq.mapfiend.net for older maps; eqresource.com for the newer expansions (House of Thule and later).
I put on same place as beryon. Not sure where steam put ur eq files though but i do know that if u put ur maps in any programfiles the maps won't upload.Blame microsoft for it it's in the way windows works.
I always make a new EQ directory to choose to download the game on a new computer, and if you look up the EQ source to download the game you can get a fresh copy there, makes updating maps easier then the Windows choice, just a longish DL time.
here is an old write up of maps http://almarsguides.com/eq/general/maps.cfm http://everquest.fanra.info/wiki/Maps basically today use of maps you need to know a few things. 1. Deleveried maps will always be overwritten (don't store new maps here) usually Everquest > maps but you can open your (M)ap in game and in the upper left corner is a pull down and that is where your current maps is at. Delivered maps does not delete folders you create. 2. Put any delivered down loaded maps in a new folder under the current maps folder. NOTE: I KEEP a separate copy some where else so in case they get over written like if you down loaded http://www.mapfiend.net/index.php put them in you new folder Everquest > maps > Mapfiend http://www.mapfiend.net/index.php older maps folder Mapfiend http://cotf.eqresource.com/maps.php COTH maps folder COTH http://tds.eqresource.com/maps.php TDS maps folder TDS p.s if you like looking at maps out side of the game older out of date http://samanna.net/eq.general/maps.shtml http://www.allakabor.com/eqatlas/atlas.html have fun happy hunting.
How to find your EQ dir: Click the little gear icon on the Launchpad, then click Open Game Directory. That will open a new window in the main EQ directory, /maps should be easy to find from there.
You've probably solved this long ago, but for anyone else who has this problem I found mine at C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Everquest F2P\maps
I suggest downloading all the maps linked on Fanra's page each into their own folder under your maps folder as CrazyLarth suggested then you can pick the best map set for different places.
Another good option Good's Maps Pack from the thread Old maps that you dislike and would want to see remade. Like previously stated create separate folders under the Maps folder for each extracted download, and you can switch between packs in the map window.
