Confirmed Reset Device() Failure

Discussion in 'Bug Reports' started by Negren, Jun 19, 2024.

Working fine yesterday, patch occurred today and I can't load the game in windowed mode. Constantly getting Reset Device failure. It's hitting my GFX card whatever is happening, because it's making my monitors lose source and it's closing Discord (all of which happen during a NVIDIA drive update, not sure how that relates.)

-Went full screen and it loaded fine.
-Went back to windowed mode and the game was running at sub 10 FPS completely unplayable.
-Verified Foreground and Background FPS settings doesn't change anything in Windowed mode.
-Tried getting ride of my EQClient.ini to see if something in there was causing issues, problem persists.

Please send me your Logs\dbg.txt file the next time it happens and I'll take a look at it. You can copy & paste the whole file into a PM to me here. Thanks.

In case anyone runs into this.

After working with Cairbrae and trying some things, seeing no reported crashes in the logs. This turned out to be a G-Sync in Windowed Mode issue. It wasn't a setting recently turned on, on my end, but turning it off did fix all of the issues I reported at this time.

Will you please tell us how you fixed this? I am getting the Reset device Failure sporadically and randomly on all 6 accounts at different times. What do I need to do to fix this? It's highly annoying.

I'm not OP and don't have this issue, but they could have meant they fixed it by:
    1. Changing from Windowed Mode to Fullscreen:
      • EQ button -> Options -> Display tab, then select "Switch to Fullscreen"
    2. Turning off G-SYNC (or Adaptive Sync, Freesync, etc. It's the setting that is meant to sync your graphics card up with your monitor's refresh rate)
      • I don't have specific instructions for you on how to do that, but if your monitor supports G-SYNC and you have that option enabled, you should be able to find the G-SYNC toggle somewhere in the NVIDIA Control Panel. If your monitor does not have G-SYNC turned on, the control panel won't have that option
    Good luck!

Turning off G-SYNC was the OP's solution.

People across multiple platforms (Discord, in-game, forums, etc.) are all reporting this issue. If no fix is planned, then is a universal notification going to be provided to customers to let them know to turn off G-Sync?

Tagging this as "No Fix Planned" is insufficient from a customer perspective. Even if it's due to G-Sync, Freesync, etc., there should still be a systemic method of ensuring all customers are alerted to be able to resolve it.

This just bit me today on one of three computers. Happened after a Windows 10 update and occurs when the server select screen is trying to open.
