You do not throw money on the screen, you want a super discount. 250 USD is just like 2.5 years subscription. All know after 2.5 years its no income for DB. So then its just laughing all the way to the bank for the buyer. I think some said that they did it last time for some needed money or revenue for the books. I guess they do not need it at this point. Some in DB did also state that biggest regret was making the lifetime subs.

  6. CatsPaws Just getting rid of the old

They were $299.99 last time. It must not have hurt them too bad cause the first release was limited to 4000

And then a week or 2 later added 2000 more. ( **Only 6000 Lifetime All Access Memberships are available. )

But last year - May 2020:

So many assumptions baked in here...

I don't need a discount, much less a "super discount":. I want to support the game. Case in point: I don't need Perks, but it's why I added them to all of my Lifetime accounts: to support the game. I understand that those accounts aren't making as much money for DBG as they used to, but they are making money, because there are lots of revenue streams beyond Subs.

Actually, it was even worse than that, as 30 month recoup ($10/month annualized) is worst-case. Some were likely on semi-annual or quarterly billing. Some may even have been fueling with Kronos for "free". While I do believe the majority were on annual sub, I'm sure not all were.

Again, there are other forms of income. Buying Kronos. Buying DBC. Buying Expansions. Buying Pack bundles. Buying Cosmetics. And now, Buying Perks. You are assuming that those who bought Lifetime subs are somehow getting away with murder, and that they haven't submitted a single red cent into the game since they "robbed" DPG. That may be true more often than not, but then again, it may not be.

I don't deny that there may be some who feel that way, but I'm definitely not one of them. I still sink a significant amount of $$$ into the game, despite having Lifetime Subs for some of my accounts.

And that's why I bought 3 Lifetime's the first go around. Not to get the "discount". To the contrary: given the state of DPG at the time, that was a substantial risk / gamble. But, I gladly forked over the money, because I didn't want to see them die. I'm happy it worked out well for both of us.

Do you have a source to cite? If this is indeed true, it's like a case of rose colored glasses. It's easy to have regrets when you have the luxury of existence. ;-) Without that ~$1.8m infusion, would DBG even exist? I'm not so sure...

Basically, DBG traded off ~$90k/month for a one-time infusion of ~$1.8m. Would it have been smarter to secure a $1.8m loan or investment? Sure. Did they try? I sure hope so. I have to assume that option was explored, and resulted in a dead-end.

I have no proof of that, but as it was my assumption at the time, and I've seen nothing in the meantime to refute it.. And, given that, I was glad to pony up for 3 Lifetime subs back then, just as I was glad to add Perks to them now.

I stand corrected, yeah I was thinking it was $200 not $300. So, yes, given that the IDEA should be adjusted to at least $350. ;-)

I tend to agree; I doubt we'll ever see these again. If we do, that's probably not a good sign...

However, given the DCUO MAU, I honestly don't think doing this limited to 1000 or 2000 accounts at $350 or $400 would significantly hurt long-term bottom-line. Use the money to help fuel better-than-average year-end Holiday bonuses, and grow the team more aggressively (I see there are open req's, which is *fantastic*. Either way, both can result in long-term wins if managed effectively.

If lifetime subs are so good business for DB as some say in this post I recon you see DB make lifetime subs for sale each year...

As pointed out, the Devs have already stated its unlikely to happen again.

It's clear they're monetization strategy is shifting given they're offering optional subscriptions for premium benefits on top of the existing subscriptions. They've also been more aggressive with expansion pricing and seem more interested in stimulating al carte purchases like the revival sales of past expansion goodies.

Just sub for a year at a time and move on, unless you really think you'll be playing in 3 years it's really not worth worrying about.
