Raiding idea to appease all

Knowing that they are likely going to instance the upcoming TLPs and knowing the other moves that will differentiate that server from Lockjaw/Ragefire, I wanted to express an idea that help retain subscriptions by appeasing as many people as possible and here it is:

Make all mobs with Mitigation of the Mighty spawn in Instance 0 AND instance 1 of each zone.
    Instance 0 is always FFA.
Instance 1 is a Rotation only instance.

Other ideas that COULD go along with this base idea (but don't necessary have to):
    1. To kill in the FFA instance, you must opt out of the rotation instance.
    2. Have a defined ruleset for the rotation instance (likely 24 hour kill timers)
    3. Make the rotation instance pop without variance.
    4. If you kill an FFA target and you are in the rotation, you are instantly bumped to the bottom of the rotation list. No double dipping.
    5. Make all raid items no drop. Even though this isn't very classic EQ, this RMT stuff needs to stop.

    6. Last but not least, would it be easy to create a voting system for the leaders of all of the rotation guilds to use? If someone is being disruptive to the rotation, guild leaders can initiate a vote to kick some guild out of the rotation for 1 week, than 3 weeks, than 2 months, ETC for violations.
If a system like this were put into place, GM enforcement would only be needed if the guild leaders started abusing this system so very low maintenance hopefully.

    I have a better idea:

Ragefire and Lockjaw become the hardcore servers that many intelligent players asked for many months ago. "No Box" becomes the casual friendly server that many intelligent players asked Daybreak to launch simultaneously with the hardcore server. When the new "No Box" (Daybreak give us something better to call it please) server launches, Ragefire and Lockjaw populations will drop drastically. Merg them together and continue on with one hardcore and one casual friendly server.

I think that server is pretty far away and since Lockjaw and Ragefire are out of sync, the 2 servers just aren't going to merge.
They aren't going to offer out of sync servers to transfer to the new server either. I think the new server is starting back at classic and everyone is starting over at level 1. This reset isn't appealing to many of the casual players that really do want this new server but many of the players feel it is their only choice.

Just instance Ragefire and Lockjaw once they develop the method they're using for Nobox. The vast majority on both RF and LJ want it.

Instancing is for the new server.
They need something to differentiate RF and LJ from that new server besides the no-box aspect.

just instance raids. it's already going to happen. simple, low maintenance, end game access for all

You all are acting like instancing these raids is some trivial thing they can accomplish in 2 days time. It isn't that simple to just instance this old content according to DBG.
My suggestion uses things that are already in place in the game to create a solution that would work for now.

Did they (Daybreak) ever call it no box?
I thought it was no bot.

The resources can be freed up by making it so you need the latest expansion to unlock TLP.
TLP is eating the resources for Live expansions, with no funding. Change this and you will have more resources and less bull on the TLP servers.
  13. lalaloup Augur

Well sure they could do that.

They could also make live subscription only and do away with the f2p nonsense.

This is very true. One of DBG's biggest income sources is the revenue generated by the purchase of new expansions. I think myself and others are more than willing to pay more than a regular sub to play on TLP.

That being said, Even with the resources, the instancing would take some time to implement and get right in classic and beyond. I think the instancing is also still a controversial subject on RF/LJ (hence the multiple 50+ page threads).

I only presented my idea above because I wanted to see others input to see if there was any huge adversion to it. Most people are just kicking back with the same old instancing stuff which is not what this thread is about. This thread is about an immediate solution that has a good chance of working where the community can chose to either work together or race each other depending on the play style they chose.

This is like capitalism versus socialism. Obviously, raid instancing is more popular. However, many players within this game prefer an unregulated kind of raid environment. In fact, they wouldn't mind monopolizing content. Your idea doesn't really solve the issue, unless you can get all the many guilds to agree with your idea. It still doesn't solve the issue of the amount of competition for the small handful of raid targets. Back then, there were many servers and everyone was spread out. You didn't have many guilds on the same level. The cash shop and all of the other perks were non-existent. It's just very different today.

Where are you getting the stats that expansions are the biggest source of income? Provide a link to some revenue figures.

I'd rather wait for instancing at this point than those suggestions to fix the current TLPs as we already have learned from past experience that rotations, no gms, no pnp policy = people quit.

Rotations didn't work, it's obvious. No GMs didn't work. No pnp policy didn't work.
Let's go ahead and wait for instancing which will solve a lot of grief for the player-base & DBG staff at the same time.

Financials aren't what this thread is about but I am guessing you are thinking that subscriptions are the biggest source of income. While that may be right that subscriptions generate a large sum of money, DBG doesn't attribute subscriptions to any specific server or even any specific game therefore the revenue generated by subs are in a different pool than everything else from a financial standpoint.

Moving back to what this thread is about though, I don't know what game you were playing but Rotations were working up until a couple of vigilante guilds decided to go off on their own. They were just a huge pain in the neck for DBG to deal with though because every minor issue was brought up on these forums like the world was ending.
This is why I suggested a system that puts only those who want to rotate in one instance and those that don't want to rotate in another instance. Instead is thread of suspension or bans for breaking the rotation, the solution is to put the guilds in the FFA instance and let them fend for themselves.

You might be missing some of the signs of a possible massive reorganization that is still going on. Assumptions based on old data may be moot regarding the future of the company.

Times, once again, are a changin'
  19. Pinto_Bean Augur

Well it essentially doubles the amount of raid targets and splits the guilds into two different instances. Effectively it would be like splitting the server into 2 different servers without actually splitting it (one FFA and one all rotation).
No guilds have to agree to anything if the GMs actually set the rotation rules. There wouldn't be all this stupid manipulation either. It would just be cut and dry. Either follow this rotation or go ahead and go to the all FFA. Pretty simple.
For those that so chose to monopolize all of the content, they can do that all they want in the FFA instance and get all the loot their heart desires.

I do agree that instancing is a good solution for a good amount of people, I don't think RF/LJ will get raid instancing since there is still a large amount of people that don't want instancing. Instancing is what the new server is for and the raid instancing is still pretty far away even for that new server.

They tried enforcing rules. I don't care if RF/LJ doesn't have any instancing anymore. I transitioned out of that "I care about either server" phase. However, I don't particularly know how this may impact both servers in the future.
