Quietly removing Krono from Accounts is Unacceptable!

How would two factor auth prevent the use of a stolen credit card to make a purchase? And I think I saw another thread suggesting that they have turned on that requirement for krono purchases.
  2. Waring_McMarrin Augur

The entire purpose of krono is for one player to buy them from Daybreak and trade it to other players for things that they need in game. Suggesting that players buy their own krono defeats the purpose of them.

Thats the point of 2FA. The thieves may have your CC but when the 2FA comes to your phone or email they cant respond. So the purchase doesnt go through.

I am only speaking of krono acquired legitimately. I agree with deleting krono obtained fraudulently but players not part of the scam should be reimbursed.

That would have to be done by card company requesting the authorization. Anyone that stole a CC could set up 2FA on a fresh EQ account.

I don't think you can setup two factor auth like that on your credit card. The only two factor auth that I can think of in this case is for use of making a purchase in Everquest in which case it would be on the account and not related to the credit card at all.

Maybe there is a way to setup some form of two factor auth for approving credit card purchases but I am guessing that isn't available to many people.

Ok I hadnt thought about F2P accounts. Maybe they shouldnt allow krono purchases on new f2p accounts.

There isn’t any reason why they can’t fairly compensate (by that I mean overcompensation) customers for that had nothing to do with the original problem . It’s also a reasonable expectation that would inform you of what occurred. The only legitimate reason they would do any of that is because they aren’t fairly compensating their customers. Also, if they aren’t going to sufficiently back the Krono, it’s worthless as a currency.

You would just buy the membership with the stolen CC, and then purchase the Krono. Tradeable Krono is just a bad design. Once bad actors learn they can still credit cards, purchase Krono, go on a 3rd party site and sell Kronos for cash there’s no stopping that. DPG created a system, where frauds can cash out the credit cards.

They should be made more like the WoW token or at the very least given 2 week delivery period. A longer delivery time might help people with stolen CCs notice the fraudulent purchases.

In what way does that destroy the point of Kronos?

You could still buy it from Daybreak.
You could still buy/sell/trade them in game just as always.

The only difference is that Daybreak tells people up front that player to player transactions won't be touched by customer service and players have to live with the ramifications of their actions, whatever that may be. There shouldn't be an FDIC on krono from Daybreak.

Doesn't destroy a damn thing...it just removes a huge customer service headache if things go fubar because you bought a krono from Shadybob and they suddenly did a chargeback.

It’s better for DPG, when the economy is inflated. It’s a lot more alluring to trade a Krono for millions of platinum than a couple thousand. So, reimbursing people imaginary currency ends up leading to more Krono sales, since Krono gets inflated.

You can use an em ul at or (form removed the word for some reason) for the text to 'phone'.
The cut off is, the question and answer they want from you in that text.
If you know the answer to the question of the account, you put in the phone number of the em ul at or . That is what I don't get, they don't know different on your cell vs an em ula tor phone number because you never gave the phone number in the first place.

This is how we played android games on pc. YEARS ago.

removes a customer service headache by giving carte blanche to scammers?

Zero chance of getting scammed if you buy your krono directly from Daybreak instead of Shadybob, the naked level 1 troll in PoK.

It shouldn't be Daybreak's job to police the personal morals of the people who play the game.

Ensuring that people aren't using 3rd party software to cheat and hack the game? Yes...they should definitely do that.

Ensuring that you'll get your plat back when the guy you just bought a krono from immediately goes and does a chargeback after the transaction, causing that krono to get removed? No..they shouldn't do that. They SHOULD go after the guy doing the scamming and ban him...yes. But compensating players for in-game transactions...no...that shouldn't be a thing. That's a player to player issue and shouldn't be part of customer service's job.

Replacing a quest item because it got eaten due to a bug? Yeah...replace that. Replacing plat you willingly handed to another player in a transaction? No...abosolutely not.

Again, it's a "buyer beware" issue.

And that only works if you are getting krono to trade with other people for things which means that they have the exact same concerns about losing the krono.

The only reason to buy a Kr from DB is to trade with others. There's no point in buying a Kr from DB for a sub. If someone is going to buy a Kr for a sub, it would be $3 cheaper to just sub for 1 month. A 1-month sub is $15 and a Kr is $18. I don't think that buying a Kr from DB for $18 and then consuming it for a sub is a significant part of the Kr market. I would guess that virtually every Kr purchased from DB has been traded at least one time. The initial person who purchased it will almost always trade it for plat, items, or services.

The problem with telling players "buyer beware" is that the players literally have no way to validate the Kr. Players would need to be able to track the whole ownership history of the Kr back to DB in order to consider how risky the Kr would be. Even if I trust the person I'm trading with, I don't know where he got the Kr. Furthermore, the owner of the Kr doesn't even know which Kr he's trading with me. If he has 10 Kr and trades me one, he has no idea where that specific Kr came from. It's just one of the 10 he has in the pile.

When I moved my dead brothers phone to a virtual line, even though it could receive regular texts, account reset messages like for hotmail, facebook, banks, etc. were not longer received.

apparently they use a 'special' anti spoofing method for some 2FA messages that looks like a regular text, but only works on 'real' phones.

Overly compensating has to be kept to a minimum because scammers could take advantage of it. If folks pay plat for a krono they should get the same amount back. It is when kronos are used as payment for items (which is why chase loot exists to create more of a krono market (at least I see it that way so my opinion here).

They could take the data each time a krono is sold for plat apply statistical analysis weed out outliers then use that average value for say a week up till the transaction occurred. Might be a lot of work BUT if they are removing krono I think it is work that needs to be done. I say weed out outliers otherwise some folks will perform bogus plat krono trades to inflate the average krono price (and yeah my opinion of what folks will do for greed is not good).

Except they DO replace missing currency from "in-game transactions" already; I handed plat from one account to another, except the receiver didn't get the plat, and CS replaced it. Currency is just another item, if it disappears, they can replace it.
  20. Velisaris_MS Augur

And you're describing some sort of bug or lag hiccup or something else that was wrong with the game. I said that when you lose items (or plat) via the game acting up, it SHOULD be replaced.

Doing a trade for a krono with someone and then having the krono be removed because the oringinal owner did a chargeback is a private transaction between 2 players. It's not a bug. Is it awful that it happened? Absolutely, but Daybreak shouldn't get involved in that and give back whatever it was you willingly gave to someone else.

There are crappy people in this game who do crappy things, with respect to running scams when buying and selling. People need to understand that, accept the possible risk, and live with the consquences. And then it's up to Daybreak to find those scammers and get them out of the game.
