Quietly removing Krono from Accounts is Unacceptable!

It's the new lottery. At least with precious metals there was something to actually hold on to. He says wishing he had bought gold in 1975. Pardon me as I bang my head against a metaphorical wall.

It all points out that Daybreak Games needs to get back into what EverQuest used to do several years back: 30 Day/90/Day Gift Cards among with 2500 DayBreak Cash Gift Cards with the addition of 1 Year Gift Cards & Expansion Gift Cards.

I mean seriously, Xbox is still doing Gift Cards for Memberships among Cash, Playstation's been doing this to this day, even Nintendo's been doing this so why hasn't Daybreak Games got back into doing said things?

If unused Kronos start disappearing again out of the blue for the same reason points out that Daybreak Games needs to get back to doing Gift Cards again.

Are gift cards more secure than krono?
  4. Waring_McMarrin Augur

Pretty sure you would have more scams with gift cards and Daybreak would have to give a cut of the sales to the stores in order to keep them on the shelves.

I have kept better track of my kronos since this post was made, so thank you, Everquest players. I discovered I was missing 4 kronos on 8/22/24. I petitioned and got a reply on 8/24/24 saying "Thank you for your patience, we were able to return the platinum value of the krono to your inventory..." GM Spoom returned 9,866,666 platinum. Now, I appreciate the fastish response and the action taken. However, kronos on Tunare have typically been 5 million platinum each for the last 2 or 3 years. How does GM Spoom / Daybreak come up with 2,466,666.5 platinum per krono?
DB poofed 4 krono, repaid me less than half of what they're worth in platinum and since I never considered the need to track my krono count independently of my character inventory screen, how much more has DB removed (stolen??) from my accounts? This is mind blowing. I feel violated, cheated and used. Thanks Daybreak.

Just curious do you buy Krono straight from DB store or do you traditionally buy them from other players for platinum? Is this something that is only happening from player traded Krono or a bug regardless of where they come from.
  7. Conq Augur

I have only ever purchased krono in game from other players for platinum or items. So I assume the "vanishing" kronos are Daybreaks' solution to combating charge backs from stolen credit cards.

This seems to be the general census. Which would lead people to assume the fraud over it being a bug

Why are they not giving us Krono for Krono? They used to do that if you lost a Krono.

Why are they under valuating the currency?

    I call shenanigans
  10. Randomized Augur

Because that would be creating something from nothing.

All krono come from RMT. When a chargeback happens, that payment doesn't go through, and that Krono gets deleted.

Krono are not naturally generated in game like plat is.

As for the undervalue part, I cannot even begin to guess how they decide to calculate the "going rate"

From what I understand if you lose a krono due to a bug they can track the orphaned krono and give it back to you (as they have indicated that all krono are tracked). But as others have said most likely if that krono's existence is nullified because some nefarious party performed a chargeback after the payment cleared they delete the tainted krono is removed from the game).. If my accounting terminology is right they are probably recorded as a liability on the accounting books and you don't just add a liability for no reason as it hits the bottom line (whereas giving plat doesn't).

I don't play on TLPs anymore so I haven't sold traded krono in years and mine have been unaffected.

I did have a question that maybe a dev can shine a light on if possible. Are kronos traded/consumed as LIFO (Last in First Out) or FIFO (First In First Out)? It seems to me that if Kronos were consumed/traded as FIFO it would be harder to "launder" the tainted krono because it the person distributing them would have to go through their untainted kronos first before trading their tainted ones. But then again now that I think about it.. Most of these krono probably originate from accounts with 0 initial krono anyways.

I personally think compensating people with plat based on an in-game sliding value scale (which can change from day to day) is just a huge headache in the making. It's a can of worms they shouldn't have opened.

It would have been better, for Daybreak, to just remove fraudulent krono, tell everyone "buyer beware", and leave it at that. Sure, people would be pissed, but it's one less thing customer service would have to deal with.

Because they don't give you another car if the car you bought secondhand was stolen. If they did, there would be a lot more cars stolen and a lot more sketchy purchases.

If someone deserves your wrath, it's the unchecked credit card companies that allow such shenanigans against merchants in the first place. Credit card companies are the devil.

I'll be honest ... as a spectator ... it's hard to feel too sorry for people who wheel and deal in a "valuable asset" so much and have so many that they cannot tell when they don't have them.

Velisaris is right ... it would have been much better to just remove the bad krono and say sorry. The community would have pretty quickly found the bad actors and acted accordingly. But someone at DPG was worried about short term krono sales. And as far as hurting server economies, DPG has never shown that much interest in it ... the rampant botting that goes unchecked is proof of that.

Who should end up eating the charge for things such as krono if they are being bought fraudulently with stolen credit card information? It isn't likely that the people involved are using their own credit cards as they would only be able to do it once.
  15. Brickhaus Augur

    That's an easy question.

Credit card companies should be eating the costs of fraudulent credit card charges. There should be a reason they are getting 2%+ of basically all transactions in the world these days. If your verification system allowed the bogus transaction, then you should suffer the consequences.

Might as well stop selling krono altogether then. Thats literally the only reason for being for krono is for players to sell to other players for plat or items. If you cant count on that then its better to just pay your sub with cash rather than krono.

A company that has too many reversed transactions will get cancelled by the cc corp.

Thank you for the financial lesson.

I understand how the system currently works. The question was who should be bearing the burden of fraudulent charges and I answered.

Since the system doesn't work like that, the best thing for the Everquest system would be for the krono to just disappear. DPG didn't want to do that. But I think the complaining that folks are doing about not getting fair market value for things that are fraudulent in the first place is a little much. And again, hard to feel sympathy for folks who have so many krono that they cannot keep track of them.
  19. Waring_McMarrin Augur

If they start eating more transactions like that they would just increase the fees they charge both to merchants and to customers even if they can afford to do so.

The way they did it this time is what makes me wonder what the real story is.

First CS just starts refunding random amount of plat from petitions.

Many days later a post is made by the CM that they are "looking" into the recent reports of missing Krono.

CS is still refunding random amounts. No reason is given. It's like the one dept that knew what the real reason is did not talk to the other dept that just found out Krono were missing. They may not give out the real reason but I don't see them being that ambiguous.

So know one really knows yet what the issue is, if its cc fraud, krono selling fraud from bots or just a plain ole system error.
