Quietly removing Krono from Accounts is Unacceptable!

    And I want to say:

This has to be the most shortsighted and dismissive attitude I have seen so far on this topic, and if this is what passes for typical I can only say I'm glad I don't spend much time on this forum.

I lay with no dogs, and have no fleas. Long gone on are the days where I raided 4 hours a day, 6 days a week. I play this game solo these days due to some health issues (eyesight and neuro issues generally speaking) so I am of no use anymore to a raiding guild or the average group trying to accomplish much if I'm being honest and as such I've piddled around on TLP's for years now.

Acquiring Krono from players selling them for PP in game is a totally legitimate and acceptable part of this game. It both serves as a means to allow those more industrious players to pay for their sub through their game play, and also has served as a hedge against in game currency inflation. If it weren't, they would not be tradable.so this should not be a buyer beware situation. Simply put I have no ill will, much less hate for Darkpaw, but their scattershot process for dealing with charged-back items is resulting in loyal payors and players catching strays

has anyone had Krono's disappear.. I had one that poofed..

It's also a "caveat emptor" situation. If the krono were obtained via shady means or otherwise become illegitimate, then I have zero problem with them being removed from the game.

I do, however, agree that Daybreak should at least make a statment and let players know what is going on.

My wife and I have maybe 40 krono, and most of those from her selling on teek. Zero have disappeared. We six box, never suspended. I am sure some people somewhere are victims. I also am sure some/most (depending on the issue) people complaining probably ARE NOT victims and lie every time they are caught.

Its kind of like computer viruses. People that get their PC infected swear up and down they did nothing wrong. Its almost always lies or obfuscation. Don't download from shady sites, don't do p0rn, don't have images enabled in emails. Zero computer viruses over nearly 30 years of internet use. Use some common sense. Don't buy krono from 3rd party websites. Don't buy krono from the guy who sells them all day long for less than current market rate. If a deal is too good to be true it probably is.

Some people are unlucky and become innocent victims, well, then petition and get your refund, which seems to be happening pretty liberally at the moment. What more do you expect them to do?
  5. Makta Elder

Again, there is alot of assumption of facts and acts not in evidence in your post here.

I don't seek nor do I accept "deals too good to be true". I don't even buy Krono from those advertising their sale, I advertise my own buys at market rates when I've earned enough plat to do so.

I am certainly not as careless as you "computer virus" example, or at all a dishonest person.

I am an innocent victim and have had a ticket in for a week now, with no contact from them since their initial "looking into it" reply 6 days ago.

What more do I expect from them? Public acknowledgement on these forums and/or this site that this is a known issue and what their solution is, better communication with those affected throughout the ticket process, and working on a better way forward in dealing with both the bad actors who start this chain of events and innocent third parties who take collateral damage.
  6. Randomized Augur

Unless your Krono comes directly from DBG, there's no way to verify where it came from. As such, there's no innocent victim here.

I could buy Krono from 3rd party site
I could see you advertising WTB at fair market price
I get your plat, you get a Krono you cannot verify where it came from
    My account gets flagged
    Your Krono disappears
  7. Corwyhn Lionheart Guild Leader, Lions of the Heart

The problem becomes if folks can't verify krono in any way they never know.

If this krono thing is happening maybe DB needs to set up a verified krono trade system that lets players put kronos up for sale at a price only once the krono is confirmed not to be tainted (however DB defines this). Then folks can buy them from other players without worry.
    Makta and Rijacki like this.
  9. Randomized Augur

Or, and I'm sure it's been mentioned before: only let Krono be traded one time. That way you can't get plat farmers from 3rd party sites buying them up en masse and reselling them.

That way they're all (from that point out) verified and certified

just confirming that the message here is that if you buy a krono from anyone other than daybreak and something goes wrong, you took the risk so it's your own fault, right?

and that's daybreak's position as well. trading krono in game is "at your own risk" and you might lose it or your plat.

    that's the message, right?

  11. Randomized Augur

    Yes.

Now, not to over simplify it to just that, I don't think the risk is that high. I don't think the amount of illegitimate Krono in circulation compared to the overall Krono is at alarming percent.

So it's like of those, yeah you have a 7% chance to get a bad Krono. 93% chance per sale to not be bothered is high enough to be aware there is a chance to get screwed, but not high enough that I'm going to stop buying Krono

It's like all second hand purchases. There's always a risk involved. How much and whether or not it's worth it is up to you

  12. Corwyhn Lionheart Guild Leader, Lions of the Heart

Well that is what we think is happening but only daybreak can tell us for sure. And if it was happening real often I would think there would be more of an issue. So far I have not heard anyone talk about it in game.

But I have not been affected as I havent bought any krono in a while and I am just going on what others have posted here. I don't think it is very widespread but I have no data to back that up.
    Rijacki and Randomized like this.
  13. yepmetoo Abazzagorath

I don't think you grasp the issue. There is no such thing as "tainted" krono. You buy krono directly from daybreak. Someone who originally purchased the krono (which have unique transaction IDs) is selling the krono, transferring the plat/$$/item, then doing a charge back and having that account banned.

Then DBG removes the krono from the chargeback. What they should do is be looking at transactions and just reversing them, but we have no clue how much this is happening and how much manpower it is taking.

But it sure as heck isn't "everyone" or "most" people or krono. Petition, wait, and move on with your lives and stop complaining.
Corwyhn Lionheart and Rijacki like this.

Is this issue strictly with charge back purchases? Genuine question. I haven't heard either way

I dont think anyone here can say, but its a good guess. It does sound like its 2nd hand kronos.

I would guess that CS staff are allowed to generate reasonable amounts of plat out of thin air; but Kronos are beyond the abilities granted to front line staff.
  17. Randomized Augur

I guarantee it's all second/third hand. But with what offense. Charge backs are a huge red flag to companies and a lot of time result in bans/suspensions becsude of the actions.

Could it be theyre tackling automated PL'ing on the newer TLPs? (Seems a lot of the people affected are mainly from TLPs), and as such its 2 birds 1 stone, even if 1 bird is a bystander?

Even though the only evidence I've seen of this happening is what's been posted on the forums (no one has complained in game that I've seen), it seems very sudden and rather widespread (like 3rd party website large - what are the chances everyone here on the forums affected by this was through 2-3 people doing it) for charge back cases.

Do we really think certain places are buying Krono at DB for $18 ish and reselling them for half that? Yeah that will make you some profit. Not

Tainted Krono would mean Krono bought from those sites. Bot farmers buy in game Krono from other players and then resell it there.

So, yes it did come from DBG originally but they were then distributed thru shady ways

  19. Randomized Augur

The way chargeback profits work is:

    I buy 25 Krono
Cancel the card/order, call bank and claim fraudulent charges after I receive Krono.
Bank takes money away from DBG and gives it back to customer
All the while customer sells 25 Krono, uses plat to buyback Krono/items and then sells to third party for profit, which the 3rd party site also resells for profit.

As long as those Kronos are in game and not used, they can be traced and deleted and DGB doesn't lose money.

If the krono are consumed, DGB loses money, while the other parties profit. And in the event that they try to take back one that's been consumed..
Well we'll just call that "lots of paperwork".

So the quickest and easiest course of action is delete the Krono from the game before they get consumed
Corwyhn Lionheart and Rijacki like this.

Guessing the chargebacks are done by free to play accounts that dont care if they are banned. I guess they could blacklist the CC too, but IDK if they do.
