I just upgraded my warrior to heroic, and in doing the heroic aug quest line I got the shield/1h dmg aug, +6 dmg IIRC. Prior to having that, I used an enraging blow aug. Should I stick with the enraging blow aug, or switch it to the +6 dmg? My main concern is agro management, not dps, but I thought I heard that the +dmg augs can be good agro as well since they are always "active".
I've used the best +dmg aug I can get in primary since SoD. Haven't yet wrangled a Sigil of Thokk, so straight +10 from Windsong is holding firm.
Not too hard to calculate. Swing aggro is base damage + damage bonus. If you have 200% haste and a 20 delay weapon, it swings once per second. A 10 dmg aug will net you 10 hate per swing/second. I think max Weapon Affinity and Combat Effects brought proc rate down to about every 12 seconds. So all you need is an aug with 120 worth of hate to equal the 10 aggro per second of the 10 dmg aug. Not too hard to top the damage augs with a decent proc. Enraging Blow is 700 hate by the way. That's about 58 hate per second.
Base proc rate is 100, like base haste is 100%. That 2 procs/min. Gear CFX is another 100, doubling the rate. Weapon Affinity is +10/rank, for a total of 270%. Expectation, then, is 5.4 procs/minute going long, for 3780 hate generated by Enraging Blow proc. I just didn't need it.
If I recall correctly a few years ago Yoda from the Steel Warriors calculated in order to be equal to a pure hate aug you had to have 23 damage on the faster weapons, and on slower weapons it was even more. The real thing to consider is how much hate you need. If your groupmates are constantly keeping up focus more on the agro procs. If you are keeping ahead handily go for a damage aug. I think it was in Beasts Domain one of the first Damage and agro proc augs showed up but that's gonna be a bit down the road for you.
At 85, aggro is a real concern for warriors, I would consider the Mkrarrg's Striking Stone, you aren't going to get enough swing aggro to compensate at that level
At level 80 http://everquest.allakhazam.com/db/item.html?item=85780 is available. The downside is it's ae aggro. The upside is it's ae aggro. (The protective value of the rune is not enough to matter - but when fighting multiple mobs it makes keeping aggro off the healers easy)
Jade of the Ether http://everquest.allakhazam.com/db/item.html?item=48697 might be an option as well, because it can be difficult to get people to go do the boomerang mission and you still have to win the 30 gold tokens for the Icepaw aug.
When did Weapon Affinity start affecting Augs? I must have missed that memo? I coulda Swore it was Only the primary proc on a given weapon
Thanks for the info everyone, will look into a few of those. I have silver tokens on another char, so may transfer those over for an early rune proc aug. Thanks again!
Agree, between 85 to 90 the change from dual wield to sword and shield is made. I stuck to dual wielding to keep agro off of my rogue mercs. I felt I needed improved shield specialist AA maxed out before making the switch.
