Problems with login-in and zonening of chars

I am running 3 chars on one pc which never lead to any problems
Since a few days now i have problems with logging my chars in or switching zones.
Randomly one or two of my chars (not always the same chars just end up with the "Entering "zonename" screen and i have to kill the task and restart. And that is nearly every time i try to zone.
Sometimes (not so frequently) i get the message "connection to the patch server hast been lost" or whatever it says. Starting the launchpad again most times fixes this error message

    Any advice whats going on?

have you checked your disk space, what else is running on the PC in the back ground. check you virus checker. good luck

Same problem here on 4(!) different PCs. For the record: It started at the beginning of this week (feb 2nd).
Logging into EQ is flakey and gives sometimes messages saying the servers couldn't be reached. But i ususally gt into the game. But i tend to loose connection to the server(s) when zoning from time to time.
For me it isn't not only a problem with EQ but also with Planetside2. When i log out a character i either get a G99 error, when i should get back to the server/character select screen OR when i get to taht screen i get a G99 or a frozen Client when changing to another server. Strange thing is that IE sometimes can't Display the Error G99 Webpage (site couldn't be reached) and then only displayes it upon refresh.
Oh, and Legends of Norrath (started from EQ of course) sometimes also sates Connection issues with its server(s).
Is there a connectivity or DNS Problem regarding the SOE/Sony Domain?

@CrazyLarth: i am running 3 independent EQ installations, one for each Character.
    - Char 1: 128GB SSD with ~20GB free space
    - Char 2: 256GB SSD with ~190GB free space
    - Char 3: 500GB SATA with ~280GB free space
    - no other noteable tasks in the background (AMD Catalyst Control Center and Realtek HD Audio Manager)
    - Antivirus Solution has all 3 directories/folders in exceptions for real-time / scheduled scans

my ingame latency/ping is around 180-210ms, but for my location (Europe - Germany) that seems to be "normal".
i also used winMTR to trace my routes:

same problem since beginning of this week. game ran great before. now it tells me no connection to server. if i hit ok it shows all servers. once in game i crash each time i zone. searched forums and tried a few things but nothing worked . help please !! not gonna pay for a game i cant play :(
  6. DebonAir Lorekeeper

I believe, i am encountering the same problem since the start of the week!
After passing the launchpad, the login process sometimes results in an 'Error 1017' prior to the server-select-screen. In that case i click that error-message-box and still can select my server and log in. But it feels like every 3rd or 4th attempt to zone results in the client running into a timeout while trying to connect to the new zone-server.
So far i encountered 2 kinds of manifestations of this connection issue while zoning:
    1) I see a black screen saying 'You have been disconnected' and are dropped to the desktop.
    2) The eq client freezes and has to be killed via the Task-Manager.

I was zonening flawlessly for years before and i am not playing multiple characters on the same machine.

so, for the CS / Tech-Staff is this just a "yeah, whatever" type of board or will there be any response?
  8. Sarkaukar Augur

    https://forums.station.sony.com/eq/index.php?threads/general-tech-support-issues.217341/

Start with rebooting router and modem.
Are router/modem owned or rented through ISP? Possible update/reconfiguration by ISP.
Most routers have added an additional software firewall, previously known as SPI (stateful packet inspection). During zoning there is an increase in UDP packets, which the firewall may see as an attack (remember, firewall software also gets updated on computer). Disabling router firewall does not disable NAT.
Computer software firewall, remove eqgame.exe and add it back to give full access.

Or as per information provided in the above link, submit a support ticket.

    same problems here :(

Seeing Morbidias traceroute sparked a certain suspicion:
Morbidia and me are from Europe (Germany) and use the same ISP (Vodafone).

Is this also true for rottweiler, DebonAir, Rubi and possibly other people who encounter the same problem?
  12. rottweiler New Member

i am from Germany , yes, but my provider is 1und1
  13. Morbidia New Member

    @Sarkaukar:
thanks for the links and additional information.

    - Firewall: checked
    - Proxy Settings: checked
    - Launchpad Connectivity Issues: checked
    - Modem/Router: rebooted and checked several times now

for those with the mentioned problems, could you please start a tracert to 64.37.171.32 from commandline, or download winMTR and use that IP as host.
i know that a friend of mine who is T-Com customer has a different route (less hops) than me and has no problems
  14. rottweiler New Member

ok, done that, just dont understand what to do with that result. could you enlightend me pls :)

What I'm trying to figure out is if the problems have something to do with the routes to patch/game-servers.
leaving Germany in Frankfurt, Vodafone seems to be using zayo, whereas T-com (according to a friend) uses levelone.
Vodafone needs ~14-17 hops to reach the server, t-com only 7-9.
you can copy/paste your results here. Doing a " tracert xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx > whatever.txt" puts your result in a textfile if that's easier for you to copy/paste from
    DebonAir likes this.

@Grabatz: Guilty in both cases: Germany and Vodafone here too.

@Morbidia: I will do a traceroute when i am back at home and post it, if you still want it.

Yesterday (monday) i was able to play without connection issues. Login worked without a problem and there were no connection loss during zoneing.
I neither played on sunday nor on monday prior to the patch. So i can't say if it was a faulty gateway or router on the way to the eq servers, that got fixed or if it has anythig to do with mondays server maintenance and patch.

Sorry, i wrote monday when i meant tuesday on in the post above. :(

For clarification, this is how the last paragraph in my post above should have read:

As i had so many problems i havent been online for the last couple of days and i didn't even notice there was a patch until a friend told me yesterday.
Logged in all 3 chars and zoned lobby - pok - lobby - pok - lobby without any problems on any char.
So to me the problems seem to be solved either by the patch or by an update on routers/gateways that may have happened in the same timeframe as the patch.
Thanks to everyone here for helping and giving additional infos such as traceroutes and stuff.
