PLer toxicity discussion

I joined Teek just a few days ago, but I'm kind of regretting not going to Tormax. Unfortunately I already dropped 20 bucks on Hero's Forge stuff to make my character look a little better so for better or worse I'm probably stuck here.

I've had some good moments and some fun times but a lot of disheartening ones as well.

    - Tried to join a couple of guilds but at this point they seem to all have level requirements.
    - My /ignore list is already stacked up from all the PL spam.
    - Lots of folks seem incredibly greedy and hypercompetitive. As a newer player on his first TLP and no guild/friends it's definitely intimidating to be here. Was in an Unrest Basement group last night and in the span of two hours had to argue with three different folks trying to KS Garanel Rucksif from us. Later went to go solo some treants in SK and some dude tried to sell a monk skull for 15k. Meanwhile I thought I did okay earning 400p on my own lol. I dread having to go to SolA and Perma for my Temp Flux staff quest pieces. Who knows what people are going to charge for that? To sum up I don't see myself participating in any aspect of the economy here anytime soon.
    - And on the note of being a newer TLP player, a lot of folks in the game and on this forum seem to be innately hostile for some reason. I swear I'm trying my best in-game, you know? I might not know everything and I'm still learning my class a bit but any mistakes I make are not intentional.

Despite all that though, going to keep trying to push through.

You just aren't looking at the guilds. Chef's Kiss is an amazing group of folks. Feel free to look me up in game if you have questions or want to see about having someone to play with. You can find my on my main Cuzon, or any of my alts - Jupiter, Cuzan, or Canriani.

To be fair I was asking around in Discord and maybe I just picked an unlucky time. If your guild will take someone level 30ish though I'd be interested in hearing more.

Pretty sure my guild, Chill Mode VII, is still recruiting at all levels - and I'd be shocked if there aren't plenty of others besides the top dogs doing the same.

And yes, lots of people are "overcharging" for things when you're brand new, but you'll hit an inversion point as you get up there, you'll get lots of things that you don't care about (sounds like you're a wizard, so like in the 50+ range when you luck out on a fungi or cords you'll be laughing about those prices from a single sale of such items) as you level up with named and such, as long as you flip those items to focus on the things you want.

As a rule of thumb, unless it's something for an epic or similar, just wait to loot it here - it likely WILL show up - wife bought a fungi the other day to get another for our boxes and next night we almost had to rot one because we got a hot streak of them dropping, thank goodness for the banker in Chardok.

When did selling services (like PLing) become illegal? I don't do it but who cares. I've yet to have a problem finding a camp in the 10 picks of chardok or seb if I need to exp.

Just goto a different pick and move on with your life. Its someone selling a service within a game and, usually, they try to be respectful to those around - respond to camp checks, etc.

It's cause Daybreak says that zone disruption, automation, RMT, and afk gameplay are against their rules. I'd include training as well, but I can't find an official statement on it.

Where does Daybreak say that PLing is zone disruption?

If they are automating, RMTing, AFK gameplaying - sure, report them and see them get banned. If they are training you, report them and see them get banned.

Selling PL services through normal gameplay is not illegal. Folks assuming they are botting and automating and whatever-else-ing is just them tilting at windmills.

o Deliberately blocking a doorway or narrow area so other players cannot get past.
o Intentionally causing excessive zone latency (creating excessive corpses, abusing spell effects, etc.)

AE PLing causes excessive corpses which can and does result in latency. Also, mass murdering every mob in a zone can easily be argued as "any activity designed to harm or inconvenience a number of groups rather than a specific player or group of players."

This took all of 14 seconds to look up. How about do your own research sometimes?

LOL! "excessive corpses" = zone disruption? I'll give you points for creative interpretation of the rules!! I sure hope you guys stay in groups that kill slowly as to not get banned.

P.s. - next time you are in game type /hidecorpse alwaysnpc.

Well, I appreciate your creativity. I guess we need to start a new thread about groups that have high DPS killing mobs too often and needing to be banned for zone disruption by killing too many npcs. It doesn't matter that npc corpses have cleanup timers and spawn timers controlling how long they stay populated in the world. Groups that kill too many NPC's are, apparently, a rules violation and should be banned.

He stated that as one thing of many, "smart guy" - the rest is 100% true and not avoidable (and before you say, but block spell effects - that doesn't change anything when it comes to zone lag and stability). Also clearing entire zones while denying it from others is absolutely so, as happens in the lower level versions.

I will agree that Chardok tier PL is less toxic, but the L1-40 versions are super toxic.
  12. Demetri Augur

And not many, if any, of the people calling this a problem are addressing the "fast killers" - they're addressing the toxic portions of what they do:

    1) General Spam
    2) Training
    3) Harming server/zone stability (Note: This may not be as much of an issue if the Test patch reads correctly!)
  13. wade_watts Augur

Again, if folks are training, then record them and they should be banned. DPG is great about enforcing this when evidence is provided.

They have also provided tools like /ignore and the ability to mark people as spam. DPG created picks so that there are many options to exp if one zone's camps are full.

I've often exp'd in zones with a PL group and have never had a problem with zone crashing. It seems like folks are over-inflating the problem here or possibly just not aware of the tools they have to deal with the issues. Providing false information or creatively interpreting the rules to punish someone doing something that you don't like doesn't seem the most productive. I'll drop it here but just was saying that we aren't a victim of PLers or anything - these reports are being overblown.

Wade, those groups in deep chardok with 5 charm pets aren't training the hell out of people and choking off the entrance of sola/seb/etc. There's more official descriptions of zone disruption beyond the 3 that were cited, so cherry picking one of the immediate 3 just makes people roll their eyes and ignore you.

If you instead wanted to point and laugh at people who feel other people spending a krono an hour to get free levels that they wasted weeks for, then sure, I'd totally embrace your argument. At least back in the old days the uber guilds going nuts that commoners were slaying dragons and getting gear they deserved more than the commoners... they had accomplished things and were mad others putting in less effort were killing easier versions of zones/mobs to reach their level of awesomeness..

People whining about AOE PL are usually just angry someone else with even a modicum of disposable income has decided to skip PUG'n Guk with 3 half afk people and a narcoleptic cleric.

It's not even an accomplishment or piece of hard to obtain gear they are jealous of that causes them to lash out.

Thats probably the real unspoken issue here. It's like when people scream about The Deep AOE in Luclin. The disingenuous 'I WAS GONNA XP THERE"... when every time the banhammer comes the Deep just sits empty for a week.. Thats the kinda thing I can't stand. People whining just to whine at that point because PUG'n AA xp in either boring high mob hp luclin zones or velks is just terrible. it's not even the PLers they are mad at.. its the 'barely not lower class' just above them that skip the unfun grind.

I certainly dont pay for power levels, but i immensely enjoy how AOE PL ruins velks, which makes people mad because its the only good xp spot with 7 seconds of a druid ring.. So people too lazy to actually hoof it or port to any other xp spot in eq instead come to the forums to complain about AOE PL, when they are actually just angry about the Velks PUG scene.

Not sure who is pointing and laughing but this is kinda the point. Someone playing the game different than me and utilizing their time / krono / etc. differently than I do doesn't mean that they are evil or wrong. If someone is violating the rules, report them through official channels and trust DPG to deal with it.

People want to demonize others because it's not their preferred way of playing and, in doing so, they over-inflate the situation and use high rhetoric (and insults) as a way to try and prove their point.

I'm happy to share an alternative opinion and then be insulted for it. I disagree that PLers are toxic. Again, I have all the tools I need to make them non-existent in my EQ gameplay. To each their own however.
  16. MileyVyrus Augur

Exactly. And on the plus side : Even if they managed to clear PL spam out of gen chat... it's an election year... So we'd very soon be missing the PL spam lol.
  17. SnapVine Augur

no they aren't great about it. I submit a video and it didn't even get viewed
  18. OldTimeEQ1 Augur

While I do agree with the sentiment that the masses truly believe there are only like 6 zones to exp till 60 and throw a hissy fit on PLers taking up many of the picks, there is a reason the PLers are also there, isn't there?

Why can't the PLers go to other zones??
  19. Gnothappening Augur

Is clearing a large portion of a zone disruption though? That is a valid question that we would need an answer to before deciding. If clearing large portions of a zone is disruption, then that means anyone bringing a high level character to a low level zone to help level an alt or a friend is guilty of disruption.

In the higher zones at least, plvlers aren't taking the whole zone. Take chardok, there are many camps open. They might not be the camps you want, but they are open. In Sebilis, I almost never see people taking anything underground. A lot of times they don't take the crypt either. I know less about the hole, but it isn't exactly a prime leveling area with kunark out anyways.
