It is (mostly) an empty argument, too many people use that, or "not classic" or "breaks immersion" rather than admit it is either against their vested interests to break the status quo. Those that engage in RMT do not want anything to impact the amount of money they can make from a new progression server. Those multi-group boxes have to paid for somehow. If you played on Fippy, I am confident you could name some players that played full time and yet were boxing 2+ groups and were obviously maintaining a subscription with their favourite hacking software...

Does anyone have any magic fairy dust they can use to summon a dev to weigh in on the validity of this debate? I'm more than happy to reiterate my ideas for a few more pages if the Devs want to see more (this is something that I feel strongly about), but if additional debate wouldn't help I'm sure I can find something better to do hehe.

They should give us an official 'no' pretty soon probably tomorrow (Friday) if they're working.
They will probably say sorry, no instancing, BUT we will work to staff additional GMs and enforce the PNP and we encourage players to begin setting up rotations and guild liasons now etc. etc.

if i could bet on what we're going to hear, it'll be that. minimal work for them, some minor reassurance that it won't be a ghetto hacker RMT new jersey quick-mart jay and silent bob paradise, and a lot of work for us.

TBH if they deliver that and june first as a target date, i'd be pretty pumped. for the most part if the forums lately are any indication, we do stand a slight chance of people not being complete wangs to each other the entire time. trolling has been pretty minimal and most people seem to be interested in participating in a fun server to play on. there will be bottlepee poop socking, underhanded crootin' and a wide variety of stealing going on, but i think we'll still get something playable.

here's to hoping they don't stick with that six months til kunark thing. dropping kunark in a month or two after release would do a lot to keep people from rage quitting for the summer. keeping the population up is really important for a player base that will have to mostly police itself.

I agree with the former but not the latter part of that sentence. I cannot see them even vaguely suggesting that they will get more GM support to enforce the PNP.

whether or not they do it... i have my doubts. for damage control and to prevent a ton of people saying 'well f that, i'm not going to play it at all' they will probably at least pretend that it'll happen.

Pretty much in the same boat, if the chances of hitting a raid target fall to zero because it appears box groups and players can and will lock down targets by sitting next to them 24/7 I and a few friends I've rounded up from 99 won't be playing.

I'll be happy to sub if instancing occurs for current or past expansions in order to get to those targets for nostalgia.

As a Brit I am not sure how to take that, is that a good or a bad thing? I know a fair few americans that like it, and others that loathe it, but to a lot of us outside the states we are just baffled by the appeal of it.

The people after you responded pretty well to this, but also remember that we've gotten little traction on saying "Hey, they could either throttle the drops on the instanced down to half" or "You can add titles and other highly visible cosmetic benefits to show off that only drop from the uninstanced versions" - one reduces the stat differences (which would always be greater for those getting uninstanced versions anyhow) the other would be unquestionably "special snowflake"-y.

Also to people that keep mentioning June 1st-ish as a possibility, how many women do you know that actually refer to pre-solstice as the season in question? Perhaps it's the circles I frequent (tons of gamer girls/etc - so skewed Pagan/Wiccan/etc and technical types like engineers, so people that give the date religious significance in one case and nitpickers in the other) but out of dozens of women I interact with on a daily basis, I can't recall any that call something Summer until June 22nd as is proper.

I can remember when I was younger that my mother would call stuff "Summer" when school let out though - but that starts in mid May some places doesn't it? (June 4th for the schools near me though)

I've said from the beginning it would likely be a Summer launch, to combat a drop in subscriptions and players that happens every year. The precise date most likely depends on two main factors: the date that subs typically fall off, and when it's ready. There's probably a correlation between when schools let out and this date, but I doubt Holly being a woman has anything to do with the server launch date.

I think they have to aim at Kunark openening during christmas vacations, that will be the prime population after the first week imo
