Please Increase Max Stored AA

Discussion in 'The Veterans' Lounge' started by Petalonyx, Jul 30, 2024.

Could the devs please look at increasing max stored AA for modern expansions?

Level 125 characters are hitting the current cap way too often. For instance, while running both LS missions with lesson exp.

Before extra-life bonuses would be awesome. A single LS mission with 300% bonus is going to run 2-3x + over cap.

Or, Use them pop a glyph, pop some fireworks. My guess for the cap is they don't want an expansion drop and everyone just claim all the new AA at once with their 2000 banked AA.

It'd be neat if they could increase cap a lot, but wipe all stored aas before an expac launch.

I can already see the complaints about that just like the complaints for the corpse wipe before a new expansion.

    That's their problem.

Better solution is to wipe "all but 250 if you have that or more" though I guess.

Why can't people just spend them as they earn them? It isn't like there are many AA that cost over 200 and it isn't hard to just purchase another AA as you get close to the cap. What point is there to saving up thousands of AA that will just be removed with the launch of the next expansion leading to player complaints?

The correct response to this is "So, what?"

Instead we are stuck in a war between devs trying to nerf players' ability to max out asap at expansion launch, and a tiny minority of players repeatedly and successfully finding more creative ways to do it.

The rest of us are caught in the crossfire.

OP is the definition of 1st world problems. They have to stop playing to spend their AAs, quelle horrible!

This would be very bad in a way people aren't thinking about.
No AA can cost more than the AA cap. Its impossible to have a abilty cost 500 AAs, because players simply cannot hold that many. Raising the cap means prices will increase significantly.

While I think you make a good point here, they could just make 10x the ranks with 1/10th of the power.

yes, but it feels really bad as a caster when you get new spells and cannot use them because you must buy the focus AAs first. If there are 5 ranks of focus, whatever I can just get the first so that my spells are now better than last expacs. If there is just one that costs 400 AA and I get multiple spells this level, I spend a large amount of time unable to use my new spells because they are strictly bad until I get a focus AA to apply to them.

On a side note - the way focus AAs work is horrible game design. Imagine if a melee picked up a new weapon but couldn't use it until they spend a few hundred AAs? Casters really get screwed with focus AA design.

Ultimately this is a game design issue.
Back in EQ classic, there were levels. The journey was 1-50, and any character advancement after that was literally just gear.

Come Luclin AA's were introduced to provide a character progression arc instead of levels. These were granted at a fairly slow rate, so even though there wasn't that many of them, characters had to work to earn them. Even with the increased cost of AA skills in live, the rate you gain AA's is far faster than it was in days of old, so it's relatively easy to max out

This is always the issue with a finite progression system where you will always have a hard stop at some point... be they levels or AA's

Ultimately this comes down to the question... are AA's still the future. To a certain extent persona's are the new aa's, but not everyone has bought into these yet, and most guilds still class persona's as alts rather than a main (25 years of the alt/main construct is going to take a long time to adjust itself)

I have great ideas on how to fix things longer term, but there's really no point detailing, as there's no resources to do anything new. I think we just have to accept that this is what EQ is now

An expac release comes down to:
    same spells +some extra effect
same gear +some extra hp/mana/end/meaningless stats
    same aa's +some extra ranks
and 5 levels every 2 expacs (which do nothing other than recycle the above)

TLDR: Start a persona to get round the AA cap.

Get them to reduce the power of glyphs, specifically dragon glyphs, first. Then you might get the aa cap looked at. Until then, I'm sure it's a non-starter.

I do believe that some of the arguments against higher aa caps have been carryover from old to new expansion release in that past. But I think that has been superseded by the "known issue" with dragon glyphs.

I think it wouldnt hurt if missions that suddenly put you over the cap would give you a temporary over the cap exception, with a warning that they will be wiped when you logoff. Spend them or lose them.
  15. Waring_McMarrin Augur

Isn't the cap you can normally earn 250 and the total you can get from rewards 375 at level 125? Are there many cases where you go over 375 with no warning?
  16. Riou EQResource

Kind of wonder how high the amount is with the 300% extra-life bonus, you already got 200 (210 with perk) AA at once with the 76% July 4th one, the next bonus at 100% is probably gonna 250 cap in 1 gain as is
  17. Belexes ForumQuester

Just spend those AA, make your grinding a little more efficient with a glyph for heaven's sake!!

It takes less than 45 minutes to go from 0 AA to 250AA if you are in the last two expansions.

Why are players so afraid to spend AA? Spend it!! You can earn more...really!!
  18. Svann2 The Magnificent

I think its achievement awards can go over cap but missions and quests cant.
  19. fransisco Augur

i think there is. Like if you get a refund there is no cap to the number of AA.
However if you log out, you lose them.

Sounds like you're complaining that the missions give too much aaxp...
