Pet targeting macro

Is there still no way to make one?

Like, a macro to target your pet? There isn't a specific one but using a pet name change potion sets your pet's name to a specific thing and then you can target it using it's name. If you want to target charm pets or don't want to set a name pretty sure you are SOL.

Potion of Companion's Amnesia will allow you to permanently set your pet's name then you can just specify /target Whateveryounameit .

Can anyone confirm that this works. I did it on live, not a TLP 5ish years ago and it did not work
  5. Twistingtime Augur

I use it on TLPs all the time. It works

I just set my pet to known xtar window and use /xtar # but that's not great if you lose the pet a lot.

Can you quit game and reload and see if macro still works.

Do you have a box character(not the pet owner) that you can test this targeting macro with?

pretty sure npc targeted xtars always reset on each playthrough, I just set it at the start of each session.

I don't have the pet potion, but I can target people's pets who have unique names with '/target uniquepetname'. You can try it out yourself. Go to the buff pile and look for pets with unique names. I assume that if you can /target other people's pets by their given name, the same would work for your own pet.

You were doing it wrong. Why would it not work? You can /tar any PC or NPC as long as it's in range and you spell the name right.

It wouldn’t work in a macro. I figured they had put some mechanism in to prevent this sort of macro use

I would love if someone could please test the scenario i am proposing. I do not have a mage with a name potion

Two characters, the mage/necro/sham/whatever who has a pet with a unique name and another separate character with the pet unique name targeting macro.

Make macro, use it. Close eq on both. Reload and test macro again

Just to be clear though, it isn't that difficult to use w/o giving the pet a permanent name.
Let's say you have a pet named Goner. Usually it is gud'nuff to just use the first two or three letters so
    /pause 7, /tar gon
    /cast 4
This is my standard pause for lag to make sure it is targeted before the spell is cast and then cast slot #4 which could be a heal or damage shield, whatever.

If the pet dies and you summon a new one, Veleker you just edit the gon to vel and your ready to roll.
There's a couple of things that are easy to macro using the in game facility. For instance
    /pause 7, /assist <puller or tank's name>
;This puts the MOB on your target cursor and you in combat mode
    /pet attack
    ;self explanatory
    /pause 60, /cast 1
;Could be a MOB debuff or damage spell that takes 6 seconds to cast
    /sit
; This sits you down and takes you out of combat mode to start meditating. Oddly enough, if you are already sitting, it makes you stand up.

Sometimes the macro writing is more interesting then the game for me. :)

    /tar %m
For your pet. Doesn't work on anyone but yourself.

You should be able to try this out yourself by finding a named pet in the lag pile. I just tried it and it seems to work. I found someone who had a named pet, made a macro, and was able to have the macro select their pet after logging back in:

I didn't ask Beast's owner to log out and back in, but I can't see why that would affect how '/target beast' works.

I do this literally every day. For the past decade. It works.

Well, this is awkward reading all these theories and super well thought out plans to target your own pet.

    /pet target

Have a good day everyone ;)

That won't target my mage's pet from my shaman account.

I wasn't trying to solve every single issue. I was replying to specifically targeting your own pet. I'm sure you could figure it out from the new information I gave you.

Also, you are welcome for this new information that you had no idea about :)
