Rangers don't have too many options for their bows in LDoN since there are no straight damage augments for bows for a bit. So, my only real option is just slapping some Hdex Aug in bow or use something like Shard of Eternal Pain (https://everquest.allakhazam.com/db/item.html?item=59768) which procs a pet that does dmg for a few seconds. I know bows can proc DDs, but know they can be weird with other types of effects, such as not proccing our ranger weapon spells. Can bows proc pet augs? Is that the best option to go with in earlier expansion like ldon or should I just throw on Hdex? Later I know when bows can slot straight dmg increase augs that's the way to go, but when augs are first introduced we don't have that option. Thanks for input.
In any remotely even tier, dmg+DD augs out perform plain +dmg ones. The dmg+DD's are just rare across EQ's timeline, so occasionally +dmg will be the way.
That's what I meant. Any augment that added +dmg was the way to go vs a straight DD proc. However, these types of augments aren't initially avaible for Bows. So, I was unsure if an augment that procs a summonable pet would work in a bow or if I'm better off just using Hdex Aug until +dmg augs become available for bows.
So, does that mean the pet augment would work on a bow? Is it even a good idea? I was worried if it would even proc, and even if it did if I was at range shooting a bow if the pet would have time to get to target to hit and cause damage before proofing. Just not sure what to add to bow for Aug in LDoN type era since +dmg for bows aren't available yet.
Yeah the pet proc aug won't fit in range slot. It's primary/secondary only. Quick summary of bow augs for TLP: -LDoN: Best proc aug available in for bow slot is a 150DD: https://everquest.allakhazam.com/db/item.html?item=26888 -GoD: Nothing changes. -OoW: There's another 150DD aug that has a slightly better resist mod (-25 instead of the -10 from LDoN) https://everquest.allakhazam.com/db/item.html?item=70291;source=lucy -DoN: Several 175DD options. -DoDH: Two different 200DD options. There's also the first damage option, but unfortunately it's elemental damage (there's a +2 and a +5, the +5: https://everquest.allakhazam.com/db/item.html?item=83413;source=lucy) -PoR through UF: Nothing exciting or new. -HoT: First actual +damage augs. It gets more standardized from there. So until DoDH, a proc or +Hdex is your best bet. In DoDH you can go +5 poison damage to help your Trueshot burns / soloing, and then you stick with that until HoT.
Bah, excuse that oversight. So, is your only viable option really just to add a DD Aug for a bow ldon/God?
