I've been mostly out of EQ for the last year, but keep up with the forums a bit.

I've seen a lot about the Overseer, and the fact that it's supposed to help catch up with "past expansion's rewards" or something like that. However, every bit of info I see talks about strategies for doing Overseer quests efficiently, or which agents to unlock. I have yet to see any examples of exactly what is unlocked (eventually) from doing all these Overseer quests. Any good resources which cover this?

    Thanks,
    Tat

What they claimed Overseer would be and what it actually ended up being are two VERY different things.

They nerfed it into near uselessness a week after it went live. The only thing it's good for with respect to "catching up" is that you can get collectibles from prior expansions. Running nothing but Trade, Exploration, and Diplomacy quests every day, twice a day, on all 3 of my accounts enabled me to complete all the collectible achievments for TBL...on ONE of my accounts.

You can use the quest rewards to gain regular xp for characters or merc AA xp. The merc AA rewards are so pathetic that they're not worth doing, and the regular xp rewards are really only useful for recovering xp loss after deaths. You won't be using Overseer to level up characters unless they adjust the rewards.

The tradeskill rewards are an absolute joke because A) they don't include the current expansion after the nerf, and B) they don't offer enough materials per quest from previous expansions to actually be useful if you're leveling up tradeskils. If I do any of those types of quest, I always choose Rain of Fear materials because it rewards befouled silks, which I can use to make the 20-slot bags.

There are no achievements associated with Overseer. There's really nothing to "unlock" either. As you do more quests, you gain xp in the various Overseer stat categories. This results in the quests getting "harder" and requiring better agents. You get better agents by converting 3 lower level agents into one agent of the next level. But, of course, it's all random, so the better agent you get may not be very useful for the types of quests you want to run.

Basically, Overseer is just a simple mini-game that includes a HUGE pay-to-win element. It's slightly useful for very specific things, but won't help anyone to really "catch up" they way they said it would.

Yep, it's like Gems but Gems was fun and didn't pretend to offer a meaningful reward

    I pay nothing for Overseer.

If you do the 12 hour quests and choose the ones with collectable rewards then you have a chance to get collectables as rewards. I have completed many many collection achievements from a couple expansions doing this. Those collection completions have gotten me rewards like bags, tons of AA and other goodies.

Then I do the 6 hour quests and the rewards there are tradeskilling material which you can use to make recent drinks, armor and food which you can use or resell

All in All very profitable if you use it right and it does not cost a thing.

Edit: on those collectables - I recently sold one in the baz for over 50k cause it is one of the rare ones. And I have never done any of the quests to gain more agents...I get those anyway from when the collection crumbles lol.

I like the Overseer. It takes very little time to do and the rewards are useful. The only thing that would make it better is a more focused tutorial. The help and information is somewhat confusing to find. Most of the information on the system appears to be in the Help section accessed by clicking the "?" in the upper right-hand corner of the tip window. There are several information windows if you follow the links, but it can get confusing and it's easy to miss some of the information. Here are the compiled tips and help in a condensed format with information on where to find them in game.

    What is Overseer?
Overseer is an alternate quest system involving iconic characters and events from the world of EverQuest

As the Overseer, you must gain the loyalty of iconic characters, who join you as Agents, before sending them on Overseer Quests that thread throughout the history of Norrath. Once an Overseer Quest is started, since you aren't undertaking them yourself, you can simply wait until your Agents return, either in glorious success or ruinous failure.

If your Agents are successful, they return from their adventures with numerous and fabulous rewards for you to choose from. Gain enough of these rewards and your power as the Overseer will grow,
giving you access to more challenging Overseer Quests and more powerful Agents.

    Who can access Overseer?
Anyone using a character that is at least level 85 may access Overseer. However, the feature is not available on progression servers until Seeds of Destruction is unlocked. Members may have more Overseer Quests active at one time than Free players.

    How do I access Overseer?
There are two ways to access Overseer. Via the [EQ Menu] > [Quests] > [Overseer] menu option, or by entering the command /overseer from the Main Chat window or any chat window.

    What are Overseer Quests?
Overseer Quests are moments in time that have been destabilized by the endless struggle between Order and Discord. As the Overseer, you can sense these moments and may act to restore balance before they are irrevocably distorted. Every day you will receive a new list of Overseer Quests, of moments teetering on the brink Choose carefully when deciding which to start.

How do I start an Overseer Quest?
To start an Overseer Quest, you must build a Quest Party of Agents that are well suited to it. Each Overseer Quest is different, and a Quest Party may struggle if they lack the necessary skills to resolve it successfully. These skills are known as Jobs and Traits, and every Agent will bring their own unique combination to a Quest Party they are assigned to.

Actually Overseer quests are useful for experience, at the start can gain about 4% level per day, as you rise in difficulty, the XP rate increases. Just give it a little thought, can log in a character (85+) and without doing anything but OS, gain a level in a month, and probably in time 2 levels a month. Since the introduction 2 of my characters on separate accounts have gone from just in 111 to ding 112, while my main has been busy doing other things.

While great for you, the average person lacks the patience to accept 1 level a month even through passive activity.
  10. Barraind Grumpy Old Bastage

Im not sure theres anything less than 24h for research. It is by far the longest time required on average per mission.

I think my point about Overseer Xp was at least partially missed, I said that two idled toons gained a level since Overseer started. Which would mean that active characters that are also doing OS for XP would be one level more ahead, then not doing the OS quests- give or take. Overseer provides a number of options, including faster levels.
