Open up Agnarr to boxing

Discussion in 'Time Locked Progression Servers' started by zurgar, Jan 24, 2023.

Can there be a vote done on Agnarr to see if the people on this server are okay to open the server to normal boxing non truebox? Worst they can say is no and this never has to be brought up again.

fwiw, I'm in favor of relaxing or removing truebox.

I wanted to play on Agnarr so bad last year after I heard about it, but basically didn't because I didn't want to play a solo class and didn't want to struggle leveling alone. It would be awfully nice to have some limited amount of boxing on the server OR some sort of gimmick/modification that allows for faster leveling for alt characters, to promote more low level players.

You can just play on Agnarr. Within a week you can be lvl 65. It's not hard.
  5. Norfestra New Member

If you're playing a solo class, right?

Relaxed truebox on Agnarr would be a great compromise. I could see people already there not wanting box crews of 40 showing up on their server all of a sudden.

Any class can solo up to about 40 in a short amount of time on Agnarr. If you are a melee, selling one krono will get you a fungi, some decent gear and a good weapon or two. Along with the consistent MGB buffs given out, any melee class can get to 40.

For casters, there are often high level enchanters that have the AOQ cap from LDON that are happy to click on you. Usually this lasts about 1:20, giving you essentially unlimited mana until your 40s.

At 43? you can group with 65s, and yes, there are plenty of 65s that will allow lower levels to fill out the group.

It's not that bad. If you prefer a little slower pace to smell the roses, you can avoid the 65 groups and still level through the 50s decently well on any class. There are groups from 45-60 with other players.

All that said above, Agnarr should absolutely be relaxed true box.

    Also at issue:

Many of us own more than one account, but not so much on PCs and the server is very low population as it is. Relaxed truebox would make things better there and also sell more mounts and things.

Yeah, we all know truebox is allowed.

So, basically you have to spend additional real money in order to solo on Agnarr, making levels 1-40 pay-to-win for meleers. I mean, I appreciate the insights though. But that sounds less fun than having a group.

    Thank you.

You can certainly level slower if that's your choice (and I don't say that to be mean.) Many people though find that it's worth spending a krono for starter gear from the bazarre. Even if you don't, people on Agnarr are pretty generous, and, often have low lvl gear stored on bank vendors just to give to newbies to encourage them.

Most peoples goal on Agnarr is to get to 43 so they can group with anyone up to the server limit of 65. The way this is done is to get some starter gear (in the baz, or by donation), then hang out at the PoK soulbinder to get (free) Temperance and a dmg sheild, then go out and kill stuff. Lvl 20 in the first day if you go to field of bone and kurns.

Save your DB store 500 pts per month for 3-4 months to buy a Worg mount from the store: it's fairly fast but most importantly it gives you a permanent buff that persists even when not riding it (LOTS more HP and AC at lower lvls.) It's an heirloom mount so you can put it in your shared bank so other toons on the same account can get the buff and use the mount.

The key thing to enjoy Agnarr is to understand it's about community. So join a guild, any guild, shortly after arriving. That will give you acess to other players, some of which will probably be leveling alts.

I started on Agnarr during it's prime, in guilds, with a warrior and it took a couple years to gear up. But with that warrior I started to want healing, so I created a box Cleric. After a while I wanted to try classes I never played, so a 3rd box. Then finally, I wanted a different warrior so I could play the mage and monk on my original account, so that's a 4th box. Now I have 2 warriors, 3 shm, 3 rangers, 2 clerics, mage, monk, beastlord, rogue, bard, necro. I think that's all of them

It's been asked for and shot down but worth continuing to ask.

I'm bored. Give me a reason to burn 4 kronos a month please and thank you.

Gotta be honest, you sold Agnarr pretty damn well to me. It sounds quite nice in a lot of ways. If I can avoid the zones that I hate (like the new Freeport), I'm sure I can have fun leveling up to do the PoP raid content that I never did. I just always found it annoying on servers when everyone just sort of expects you to do the same leveling path every time.

Anyway, cheers though. Thanks for the insights. Maybe I'll check it out this weekend or next.

ya i agree the other pop locked server in the world is 3 box limit and they have a fairly big population - and enforce it well

i think a 2 box limit non-true box or 3 would even be ok

what ruins the game is when people run around with many automated characters monopolizing content for days -- boxing in and of itself is fine especially if u only have v limited play time and or a few partners u only play with once in awhile but want to keep going with u

--- i really want to spend some time on agnarr between playing tlps and r now my options are lvl a necro and twink a melee or buy another pc - none out of my reach, both are just meh, also --- i noticed agnarr was no longer a prefered server so opening up boxing would let ppl with many free accounts abuse that so gotta be careful because free accounts is what creates the slippery slope to 50 man box armies...

I know it can be policed well. So it's not impossible to have a thriving server.

Having this server is great - it ends in an era where the game is not so complex that I struggle to play it's nice knowing its there. It's part of the reason I'm still subbed even tho I don't play so much.

***, I would like to add if agnarr has out of combat regen? Correct? The need for boxing pre 50 isn't really there even for rogues.
  16. Xeris Augur

There is no out of combat Regen on Agnarr. As others have said, you can easily solo to about lvl 40-50 as any class. If you spend a Kronos and get some gear and get buffs, leveling will not require boxing...

You can probably find some groups from time to time, solo, etc. Once you hit 43 everything opens up. Relaxed truebox would be fine, but not necessary imo.
  17. Montag Augur

It's not a preferred server but still requires a subscription to play

It used to be a preferred server. Then I think it was Mangler came out and Agnarr was bumped. To me "preferred" means simply DP saying "please play on these shiny new servers, not those stinky old servers."

I 'prefer' Agnarr because of the era lock, and the friendly culture.

You can't just start as a single player on Agnarr and be 65 in a "insert short period of time here." Not accurate at all. The bazaar is bare. The population is so low that finding groups at low levels are near impossible. I've started several times on the server and have found it very difficult to get a guild invite even standing in PoK wating for over and hour (done this twice) after being in tells with guild officers from 2 of the top guilds on the server. I'd go play there again if I could box, but if you value your time at all, you will be quite disappointed thinking you can level up quickly on the server by solo/pug or even getting into a guild.
