Of Alan Rickman and Equitability...

Discussion in 'Time Locked Progression Servers' started by Vaclav, Jun 11, 2015.

So... what does "equitable" mean and does the current situation on either server qualify as "equitable"?

    Discuss.

If that vague threat/promise turns out to be anything other than smoke and mirrors, I will be very surprised.

In a couple of weeks, on both servers, players who didn't "rush to 50" will begin to reach 50. I suggest that every guild document their raids and provide a post-raid assessment for whether or not a new player who never played EQ (and if there was contention for the target, regardless of whether they were on the winning side or not) would have received the most 1999-like experience possible, or indeed, whether the experience would have been ANYTHING like 1999 for a new player.

After a couple of months of documenting them, see if there is any value to the underlined text in the below statement:

Q: Are you really, really not going to instance raids?
Really, really, for real. Uninstanced content on this level was a unique experience for EverQuest, and there are people out there who have never experienced it. We want to believe that you can work it out on your own. We have plans for what to do if you can't work out something equitable, though, and we might have to contract Alan Rickman to read them.
You don't want the plans that Alan Rickman will read, McClane.”

That line is crap, the population far exceeds classic EQ levels, and on top of that there is no PNP or GM policing of raid content to provide a classic experience. Just unsubbed all accounts, will check back in a few months to see if they fix things. Not worth playing in the current state.

That's kinda off my intended topic - I'm more curious on what people consider "equitable" than the results of not being equitable.

To get things started - right now, I feel (now that Tuldas/Azuth has seemed to chill out in the past day since an incident involving a Staff of Elemental Earth) that Lockjaw is quite equitable - there's discussions of getting motivated guilds of appropriate levels shots at different mobs as long as they're willing to mobilize at a reasonable pace.

From everything I've seen and heard (including TL that tend to be extra honest and self-critical) its seeming like it's not what I'd consider equitable on Ragefire however.

Other folks I'm sure have their own takes an analysises though.

Thumbs down to this entire mess. If Daybreak insists this isn't a classic experience, but a progression server, then the server needs to adapt. Mage pets are broken, planes and dragons aren't raid mobs anymore. They're a honeypot for players to gather up and hate each other with. It's obvious we can not do the policing, as Aristo said, so something else has to happen.

For all the stuff TL says that's just garbage, they do have one point- who else has even been ready to take on the raid targets?

Here's my take. If you don't like the game, stop paying for it. Plenty of us are having fun and DBG has shot down your delusions already.

Again - please stop trying to turn it into the other thread again - I'm trying to start a discussion of WHAT IS equitable to different people's definitions.

I feel that's an important discussion to delve into. Because it's clear that's the desired result. But being that the term itself is subjective it's a world of gray.

    adjective
    1.
characterized by equity or fairness; just and right; fair; reasonable:
    equitable treatment of all citizens.

    2.
    Law.
    1. pertaining to or valid in equity.
    2. pertaining to the system of equity, as distinguished from thecommon law.
I would pick the first one.
  11. Vaclav Augur

I would agree with your assessment on the dictionary definition: But I was speaking more practically in how it applies within this product.

Having the opportunity to do things with like minded people without interference from others.

    That's mine, anyway.

Desired result by whom? I think very few people on these servers really want equitability.
  14. Vaclav Augur

By Daybreak per the old statement that Roshen requoted today.

You keep making these threads trying to reframe what you want and they'll all eventually wind up in the dumpster where they belong.

I gave my personal definition of what I would like to see, but I'm not seeing where the Propaganda Minister of DB ever called for, or even hinted at, 'equitability' in either of the repeated statements. I'm just not sure where you're going with this.

Really? That's my goal? Actually it's not, but thank you for trying to push your own agenda.

My goal is to see what their target is to try to achieve their target without them having to intervene. As I personally stated regarding my server (Lockjaw) - I feel it IS operating quite equitably at the moment.

Please troll less and attempt to be more productive.

    LOL
I read that like 12 times and kept glossing over that particular word.
    Thanks.

They understand that many of you will quit in frustration. Which will balance the load and make non-instanced raid content less stressful for everyone else

Doesn't make much sense to me financially, but that seems to be their plan
