Oakywynd Opening Day Hustle

Discussion in 'Time Locked Progression Servers' started by DimitriG, May 22, 2023.

It's been many years since I played a TLP server on live (P99 player since 2010), but I'm really excited to play on Oakywynd later this week!

In the past, I remember it being really difficult to login and connect to the TLP servers on opening day. Is this still an issue? Trying to organize my work schedule for wed, but don't want to take time off if I'm going to sit in a queue or be dealing with disconnects all day :D

Honestly, its been completely hit or miss. Some servers were not bad at all, I remember Agnarr being pretty decent and I heard that Yelinak/Vaniki were not bad as well. But for every one of those you have a Phinigel and even worse Aradune (The worst I've ever experience was Aradune, literally almost unplayable for weeks).

So it's anyone's guess to be honest. I suspect Oak will have less people than traditional ones because FTE seems extremely disliked, but its the only server their releasing so everyone is going to just 1 server and not splitting between 2 (which was Aradune's biggest problem).

The queue is always an issue but it has gotten better over the years.
I never take the initial day of launch off because by the time they launch it and you get home from work (5pm or so ) you are usually capable of logging in with a small queue time to get characters made and set in locations for the next day of hardcore grinding.

There are population caps (like 250 to start) that slowly increase over time. The real bottleneck is the character creation server, so they artificially throttle the amount of players that can get in and create chars. They will increase the pop cap by like 200/250ish every like 30-60 minutes depending on stability. On smooth launches that population was up to 1000 by the 2 hour mark.

If you are clicking right on server up you have a high chance of getting in. If you miss the first wave, and you got in queue immediately you should get in within 30-60 minutes. If you are not in queue and a few hours late, you might have trouble getting in later depending on server pop. If Oakwynd is low demand up front you will have zero issue getting in when they have totally removed the population cap.

Either way, by the time PST people are home from work you should be able to log in and play, because half the server population will be spread out of the newbie zones by then.

I'm just glad I secured my name already

The first month of Aradune was rough, but there were a lot of factors at play, but the largest was the covid-19 lockdown.

I don't think we'll ever have a TLP launch like that again.

I recommend aiming to start overnight (so midnight or later pacific). At this point, you should be facing minimal pressure from the US populations to get through character creation and into the game - and assuming there aren’t any server downs planned to deal with FTE, you should be clear to grind through the night before the population picks up again and you start seeing competition for the better camp spots. At that point it’s up to you to decide if you’ll push through or take a break.

How do you secure your character's name pre-launch?

FTE will be enforced on the login server. Hopefully this will help prepare players for what is to follow.

Yeah, i was wondering how you can secure a name pre-launch, does each name lock on all servers if it is used on one?
  14. Olestra Elder

it's by server, that's why when they merge servers they will sometimes have to add an x to the name because someone already had that name on the server

I dont think it will be too bad this round.

    1) they have their process down well now.;
    2) I dont think oak is very popular vs other TLPs so less people less queue.

Figure... 1-2 hours max queue on 1st night.

    No queue by day 2.
