Oakwynd Longevity

There are no assumptions about it staying as one of the few servers to hit high population most of the time.
  2. Barton The Mischievous

Staying?? Going to need some clarity on that statement.
    Staying High Pop till Planes?
You sure it is going to stay high pop till live is that what you are saying???

If so that is a bigger assumption than what I actually quoted.
  3. Waring_McMarrin Augur

Why are you so worried about the future instead of how the server is doing now? What is the purpose of repeated posts saying the server is going to die at expansion X in the future?
  4. Barton The Mischievous

Why are you so worried about how the server is doing now and not about the future?
What is the purpose of repeated replies about how the server is healthy now when we are talking about the future?
  5. Captain Video Augur

It depends on which future you're talking about. Real Life future is when I get married. EQ future is when I can get one more stinkin' giant spider egg sac drop in Commonlands. Everything else is just a bunch of morons all claiming to know how to run the business of EQ better than the company, as well as better than each of the other morons.
  6. Waring_McMarrin Augur

Because I want to see the server get a fair chance and not be declared dead before it was even launched? What are you so worried about that you need to declare the server dead in a future expansion when it is still doing fine now?

Why do you care about other peoples opinions so much? Guess that is what happens when you are wrong on nearly every argument.
  8. Waring_McMarrin Augur

Why do you care that I am saying that Oakwynd isn't dead and is doing fine? How can one of the most populated servers be dying?
  9. OldTimeEQ1 Augur

Hope you guys are enjoying "debating" a guy who doesn't play on the server, doesn't understand what longevity means (among other things).

As I have blocked him, I can't (thankfully) see his inane contentless parrot posts but seeing others posts, I guess he is at it.

Let me guess, his one-trick pony is its population is high and so anyone who questions the server's longevity (that word again, from the subject) is wrong and somehow doesn't like FTE?

Block him, save some brain cells

Server population is what matters and how Daybreak determines the health of a server and as people have been saying that the server is dead since it was announced because of FTE it does seem fair to think that is why people keep calling it dead.
  11. Randomized Augur

The other side of that exact same coin is: lets listen to the person who's using their own anecdotal experience with no actual data to set THEIR own standards for server health.

Hey guys, I created a new character at at 1:47am Monday morning in South Qeynos and I was the only character there. There must be at least 3 picks to every zone I go to or else the server is deemed dead and dying! Anyone who disagrees with me is wrong!
  12. OldTimeEQ1 Augur

    Haha hilarious.

A logical person would listen to people who actually play on the server. I am not sure why this is a complex concept for some of you though? But hey, not everyone becomes an astronaut I suppose, ah well.
  13. Randomized Augur

So screw data and let's go with some random persons feelings to determine server status.

    You're right. Quite hilarious
  14. OldTimeEQ1 Augur

What data? And what feelings lol. Do read through the full thread please.
  15. Randomized Augur

Show me where you got the numbers showing how many people have logged in this week compared to last week, and previous weeks since launch.

As well as the numbers from all prior TLPs as well so we can see the actual numbers showing that it is indeed mirroring the TLPs you claim it is, in their downfall and inevitable early death of their server.

Oh...you cant? The only thing you can provide is anecdotal experience and your personal feelings on how things are going and how they'll continue to go? Just like everyone who felt the server was DoA because of FTE? Those feelings?
  16. OldTimeEQ1 Augur

Where is your data? You were the one coming in with your "let's screw data" shtick mate, so showe that data. Now you want me to spoon feed you data you should ask DPG for this is the issue with key word comedians who talk about "data" and then when asked , they ask you to give to them.

We got one guy saying it is always high population from server status (you know that sophisticated place where all can check) and when someone else said eqprogression history shows its only 75% or so of the time, backtracked to time of the day etc.

    So read the thread fully.

Again answer the question in my previous thread, or you and Waring can go back to liking each other's posts. It's cute, ignorance loves company?
  17. Kraked Augur

I am quite amazed this thread has not been locked with the amount of trolling that has been happening.
  18. Randomized Augur

You've never asked me to provide anything. We can easily use the one thing that DBG gives us. Server population.

We can all agree that FV is a healthy server right? Which is represented by its high population. Does my anecdotal experience of logging in at the end of an expansion lull phase in off hours seeing only a fraction of what everyone else sees change that fact?

As for eqprogression I'm not sure what it is or what it represents. Is it ran by DBG or is it a separate 3rd party?

As for your other thread, there's absolutely no reason for me to go there. It's entirely unrelated to what I'm discussing (I have no idea what your thread even is or where it is)

So show me the proof that invalidates the status of the server health as per DBGs showing based on population.
  19. Rijacki Just a rare RPer on FV and Oakwynd

But you don't listen to those who actually play on the server if they don't have the same opinion you do.

I've been playing since day 1 on Oakwynd and, subjectively, the server population feels a lot like Firiona Vie 8 weeks in after its launch (which was a few months after Luclin launched) as the server I played from a couple weeks after it launched.

I'm in a guild on Oakwynd which has grown to a size with -active- players to be larger than any guild I have been in on any server in any game. There are, of course, times of the day on certain days of the week when the guild and the server as a whole aren't as active, but that's reality especially with an aging population. Many of the guild are actually looking forward to staying in the guild and on Oakwynd as it progresses through the expansions.

Yes, we have a chunk of players who only played the first week and others who joined and left either just our guild or the server as they found the experience wasn't what they were wanting or real life through up barriers and conflicts. We have had more than that join us and frequently will have 2-3 new members a week most of whom say they are just starting on Oakwynd and many who say they are just starting to play EQ or are coming to TLP from P99. I've actually been personally surprised by the number of completely new to EQ players and based on the questions they ask and assistance they need, they really are new to EQ. Most are not new to MMOGs in general so there's always some sort of frame of reference to relate to.

Many of our members who have played through previous TLPs in a rush have actually mentioned the more laid back and community attitude of our guild, and a bit for the server as well with the evolving ruleset, is why they aren't feeling the same burnout they often felt on pervious TLPs. This is my first TLP and I generally don't play cutting edge racing to the "end game" in any game so I don't really know how much that differed on previous TLPs. More members talk about what the future is bringing in unlocks than how thus and so expansion was why they left a TLP before. Though when they mention previously leaving Live or a TLP at an expansion, it's often with a "but I am looking forward to seeing beyond that point now".

For myself, I started playing when Luclin launched (moved to FV shortly after) so getting to experience the first 3 has been novel and one of the things I wanted from Oakwynd as well as getting to experience the eras after I left originally (right before GoD to my full return mid-2020). I play on Live as well (still on FV) and am amazed at times by how different and the same the game is as a 54 bard on TLP Kunark to a 120 bard on Live. Even though I vaguely remember having fewer bank slots and no shared when I started, even with Dragon's Hoard (125 slots) and Tradeskill Depot (500+), I'm still amused by the inventory management issues. Then again, I am a hoarder of things. Never know when you might need that whatsis later down the line (and I utterly forget to look them up when I have time).

But... in my utterly humble opinion based on my time actually playing on Oakwynd, I think the declarations of it being DoA were total piles of poop and the prophecies of it dying completely in thus and so era are just someone farting out their... Even the pronouncements it's nothing but krono traders is fallacious. There are many who don't engage in buying and selling for real money in any way and even those who don't engage with the Commonland tunnel trading. This makes using only those metrics as a gauge of the server longevity very unreliable. There are also those who don't like to group outside of guild for whatever reason and some rather sizable guilds that can mostly only group with guild, so using LFG as a metric is also not entirely reliable. And, like any server, not just TLP, there are some zones which become less populated as the server "ages" (and even 9 weeks in is 'aging') so using the picks of lower level zones as a metric is disingenuous. Looking at the number of picks in the most popular for leveling close to max level is better than noting the picks of a level 5-10 zone or even a 30-40 zone and those zones have an abundance of picks. Looking at the competition of the over world raid targets is less useful than noting the number of DZs but not just for the cutting edge race to the 'end' zones.

To those determined to see Oakwynd fail:
You might want to ignore someone who is only looking at the metric of the server population as provided by the game producers because that stat doesn't match your opinion. But you also deny the reality others are experiencing on the server right now because it doesn't fit your desired narrative. It doesn't matter if it's because of FTE or that the server isn't Free Trade (personally, I prefer Heirloom) or for whatever other reason you personally don't like the server, there are hundreds of players who disagree with you and are happily playing on the server. Most don't post here for whatever reason, likely because they are enjoying themselves and don't see a need to feed the trolls who only seek to invalidate them. But, even if every single player enjoying Oakwynd posted here, you would attempt to silence their hundreds of voices by saying their opinions matter less than your own.

To the person who said 'just wait a few months and we'll see who was right", while this is true, it also really doesn't matter. As long as Daybreak deems Oakwynd is making more money than it's costing, the server will continue on.

Whether that's with thousands of players, hundreds of players, or just a literal handful, as long as the server is kept open by Daybreak, it is not "dead" and there will be players playing on it. They deserve the dignity and respect of being able to enjoy the game as they are than being told over and over how their server is "dead" and losing and whatever other nonsense. The only vested interest the nay-sayers have in Oakwynd is to ruin the game for others.

And before anyone chimes in with "but we don't want... on the next server", your trolling is not "teaching" DB any "lessons". Your trolling only shows your misguided sense of entitlement. If Oakwynd isn't the server you want to play on, it's simple, don't play on Oakwynd. If the next TLP isn't the server you don't want to play on, it's simple, don't. If there are no TLPs you want to play on and you don't want to play on Live, then don't. You are perfectly capable of leaving the forums, too, if you're not playing on any server.

I hope you find the fun you seek as long as it isn't at the expense of others.

It's pretty obvious that to most people, if they do not play on the server its "dead" (to them)
