No real plat sinks in EQ anymore?

You're a player. Giving you plat doesn't remove plat from the economy.

    I'll buy stuff, I promise!

someone posted a question about plat sinks. found this topic that was started before the new currency (noble) was released.

Come to Test server. The economy there isn't broken like on Live servers. Heck, it's almost inconsequential.

    Great thread.

I really, really like one poster's idea about paying to spawn private instances of old raid zones with the raid targets guaranteed to be up. I would spend a lot of plat on that just for nostalgia, seeing all those old bosses again, and seeing all the ones I've missed since I stopped raiding around PoP.

The folks who sell plat for $ would love this.

Who cares? It would remove plat from the game, and it seems the Devs think that is a good thing. Alternately, make them also available for Station Cash.

Plat that isnt being spent has no effect on the game economy and does nothing other then let those who have a ton of plat find more uses for it. Plat that someone is hoarding because they have nothing to do with it is already effectively out of the economy.

Is there even much of a use for plat these days that it's such a concern? I rarely ever use my plat. I couldn't care any less about it. The one thing I do buy is collections that I've been too lazy to farm, but other than that, it's very easy to acquire items in-game without the need to constantly be buying/selling.

Plat cannot even make a very powerful character these days, so what's the concern for having so much plat?

All this. Plat is worthless for many people these days because there isn't much use for it. Hasn't been for years. It just accumulates on many toons and is already completely out of the economy. Every item/thing of any real value that you could use/need has to be looted (except on FV) and isn't very hard to get. There is so much rot that a player could probably ooc in a zone for rots and end up fully geared relatively early in an expansion.

The only costs/use for plat during an expansion are:
    1) Set of new armor templates (if they are needed)
    2) Aug distillers to swap augs
    3) Rank I spells (if you can't wait a week to loot a full set of Rank IIs)
    4) Merc costs
    5) Top of housing allotment

Autoloot ensures all of the above costs are covered plus some. It no doubt has added to the amount of plat hoarded by many as before people would just leave everything on corpses.

Yep and pretty much for the first 100 levels all but #4 can be ignored.

But having DBG "fix" this is like asking the government to fix something IRL, intentions might be good but the result is almost assured to be horrid.

Also another reason why we are on FV, as little as there might be to buy/sell at least there is something from time to time. Between No-drop, No-Trade, Prestige, etc all of it just insured a slowly collapsing game economy. But hey it all sounded good in the staff meeting right?

I don't know about you but i find the platinum sinks too high at least to the 90s.I had to spend loyalty points because with mercenary charges, spells cost i'm a druid btw so probably more spells then most classes and tradeskill spending i was spending more then what i was earning.Thank you daybreak for bag of platinum.

Plat is very useful on FV. I love it that most items are tradable. Makes the game more fun, IMO.

    Krono Prices.

I swear the Plat Sink issue comes up whenever Krono prices experience a boom.

It's 95% about keeping Krono prices farmable and maybe 5% on keeping TDS/CoTF rares and LoN Prizes affordable.

Plat is very useful. It's why I havn't payed daybreak a penny since before they were daybreak (expansion excepted, I couldn't krono that).

Useful for buying gear no, but somebody needs stuff, and is happy to send me plat which I then trade to another for game time.

Plat sinks can do a lot of harm (encourages RMT farmers) if not done carefully.

The Shadowhaven Casino was probably the best way it was done in the past because it was more of a cool trophy thing vs. a necessary progression piece. For example: spell cost isn't an even way across the game of doing it and can be a negative to the non-rich in plat population.

Casino 2.0 could offer 7-8 rare things, maybe just all/all versions of some rare things that usually are class restricted. Make them nodrop. Consider putting 1-2 super juicy LoN card items in there, possibly a unique mount as well, maybe some class-bending heroes forge as well ("robe of the high roller" could be an all/all baby blue tuxedo graphic). Have this casino run on "Platinum tickets" that are notrade. A casino like this would probably exist in Thurgadin. Popsicle dwarves are sly like that.

What about the ability to by "solo" difficulty missions from cotf and up? Basically missions designed to be either solo'ed or done with just a merc but they give similar rewards to full group diffculty?
  19. Triconix Augur

If Kronos aren't affordable, don't buy them. If people see that enough players aren't buying them at the ridiculous prices they're at, the prices will fall. It's just basic economics.

    inconvenient truth :)
