No Krono EQ2 Server

They can do what the like for the next couple of years, I will be more than happy to not bother with a new TLP for a few years and have fun on Teek.

I am pretty sure that is already the policy in such scenarios, but I doubt that will stop people from making undesired tickets about it anyway.

I believe the reason for this is simply they are using a client that was older than when they added in the Krono UI and DPG couldn't figure out how to add that UI in or they figured there weren't going to be very many people playing on that server anyway so why bother? Taking the path of least resistance is usually the answer when it comes to DPG, so I doubt this is some intentional bonus that they plan to implement anywhere else.

The announcement specifies "Krono will not be able to be consumed, traded, or sold on an Origins server". This likely means you won't be able to claim it on the Origins server, not that it will be flagged No Trade. You would only be able claim it on another server that supports Krono. If you could claim it on the Origins server, it would be a dead and unusable item since you won't be able to consume it there.

Yes, there was RMT in 1999 and also in 2004 with the EQ2 launch. There were gold farmers directing players to their websites to buy gold and tradable items. Many/most items in EQ2 are No Trade, Heirloom, or bind on equip only - I do not personally know if any server is "free trade" in EQ2, I haven't played there consistently in several years.

Having "no Krono" on the Origins server will mean someone could still trade a krono on a different server for gold/goods on the Origin server just as there were 'cross server' trades in 2004. But it's not quite as easy to do so. There will still be gold farmers (as there were in 2004) but it might as disruptive to the economy as it was in 2004 and not as it is now on TLE/TLP.

Also, just noting and nothing to do with krono or RMT, 2006 is Kingdom of Sky era. There were a lot of significant changes to the game between 2004 launch and 2006. Tradeskills were mostly actually working by then only to be completely revamped (about as successfully as the EQ Freeport revamp) in Echoes of Faydwer.

Unless there is something lost in translation on that post it still sounds like you could log into another server to acquire/use a krono for a subscription on that server. Seems like all it will do is move the krono part of the trade to another server.

would anyone play that? Corpse runs gross...
  7. Kahna Augur

Those folks on Quarm and P99 seem to like it. No clue why.

I don't recall specifically, but those might have been eliminated by 2006. At EQ2 launch in 2004 there were corpse runs but they were eliminated pretty early on.

I think he was referring to an old school EQ with corpse runs, not EQ2.

If I remember right the EQ2 system was optional and I think it removed some of your xp debt if you did it but you could ignore it and continue playing.

Yes, just as there were 'cross server' trades possible in 1999, 2004, and 2006. I actually mentioned that specifically if you had read my full post.

So I will repeat a bit more succinctly:
    • No Krono on Origins does not end RMT: RMT existed LONG before Krono, it just makes it a bit more complicated requiring, as it did in 1999, 2004, and 2006, a bit more of an "escrow" and middle man with cross server trading if using Krono as part of the currency.
    • No Krono on Origins does not end gold farming: Gold farming existed LONG before Krono and was present in 1999, 2004, and 2006.
    • No Krono on Origins does not end spamming for PL services or RMT: Those also existed at least as far back as 2002 and likely all the way to 1999 on EQ and were definitely present in 2004 and 2006 in EQ2.
    • No Krono on Origins might make the economy at least as stable as it was in EQ2 in 2006 (but that is a big might in my opinion).

At launch you still had to go get your stuff, if I recall, but you were a 'ghost' that couldn't be attacked unless you attacked anything, interacted with anything (other than doors?) or looted anything (including your own corpse). I forget if you could move your corpse when you were a ghost.

The ghost corpse runs were patched out pretty early, but I don't recall exactly when. You could probably read through archived patch/release notes to find when the change occurred, if they were archived somewhere from the start.

I played EQ2 from launch (2004) until just before Alter of Malice (2014) and sporadically since then.

I think you misunderstood what I was saying, it doesn't matter if krono can't be consumed directly on the server as it can still be used to get a subscription for that server. The only change is that you now need to log into a different server in order to consume it.

I played beta and EQ2 through SF. I enjoyed it and still played EQ too. Crafting in EQ2 is a much better system than EQ1 imo. It is relevant and usable from the get-go - crafting everything one needs early. I did not like EQ2 version of BST though. When the pvp/e servers launched I switch to EQ2 full time. EQ2 pvp/e - early through Kunark - was absolutely a blast with mutli faction open world pvp/e fights. PVP/e went downhill fast though with the introduction of instances and other changes to the game that drove me back to EQ1. Their current iteration of pvp/e is just disgusting compared to the original game though. Hoping this new Origin server is mostly good though.

You did not read (twice) what I said about cross-server trading or maybe you don't understand that implies a requirement to log into a different server to conduct part of the trade. One could always make a trade on one server between 2 parties and those 2 parties also log into another server to make a trade to 'transfer' items/plat between the 2 parties using cross-server trades. That has been possible since 1999.

I remember those epic battles. One happened at the docks in RoK. PvP titles were also pretty neat. Freeps or Q's inc!!

Guilty: I did not mind corpse runs but I was a necro main so I just summoned and camped zone lines on down time to make pp summoning others.

EQ2 shard runs (corpse runs) were not bad at first but the group shared the XP debt. Bad actors were abusing this mechanic by joining groups and then intentionally training them to wipe the group and cause group xp debt. It was really trollish behavior. This is one of the main reasons it went away. I do appreciate a death penalty system though if implemented well,

I can see them dabbling with no krono server now only if they have any kind of success with it.

I cannot see them going to an EQ origins type server with corpse runs, hell levels, staring at a spell book, mobs with no plat, no FS weapon, and then expecting any kind of success.

I have always dabbled in EQ2 and often popped into TLE during EQ downtime, bought bags etc but that was because it was a shared sub. So this time for sure I won't be doing that and paying DPG 2x.
  19. Waring_McMarrin Augur

I never suggested that it wasn't possible since the day krono got introduced. The idea that krono won't have an impact on the server is just strange as from what I am reading krono will still provide a subscription on that server and it just moves it to cross server trades which increase the risk of getting scammed.

There hasn't been anything to say you need a separate account to play on Origins only that Krono cannot be consumed, traded, or sold on the server. That doesn't mean you can use a Krono on another server (EQ or EQ2) to have an All Access account that would include access to Origins, just that you can't do anything with Krono on origins.
