Boxing is the ability to use more than one player character (game client / account) on the same server at the same time. A player that is boxing is called a boxer and a bundle of such player characters is called a boxer group. Abbreviations: CC = Crowd Control Charm = The caster can control an enemy (NPC or PC) like a pet. DPS = Damage per second / A class that is doing much damage per second. DS = Damage Shield Evac = Does quickly port the group to the safe spot of the zone. Haste = A buff that does increase the melee speed/DPS. MEZ = Mesmerize (putting a mob to sleep) Ports = Teleportation spells that do offer quick travelling to some firm zone locations. Puller = A player that does aggro and lead mobs (NPCs) to a spot / group / raid. Snare = Does reduce movement speed which is good for fleeing mobs or to escape. Color legend: Blue = Available Orange = Available but weak or limited ::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::: Slowing class comparison Bard: Best puller, descent CC (charm or mez, snare), good DPS, best haste because of overhaste songs, mana and HP regen songs, does need melee positioning. Enchanter: Best CC, best mana regen, two auras for all kind of bonuses, moderate DPS, good puller. Shaman: Great melee and HP regen buffs, strongest slow spells, second best DoTs (good DPS), second best heals, descent CC by root, average puller. Beastlord: MNK/SHM hybrid but basically a good melee DPS pet class that does need positioning, poor CC, does receive FD AA at higher levels but is still a weak puller. A balanced and easy class with no outstanding abilities. ::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::: Duo boxing Do not use two or more melee classes (ROG, BER, MNK, WAR, PAL, SHD, BST) as this would be inefficient and much work. For best results you need a tank and a damage dealer (DPS class). Let a merc be the main healer as playing a healer is difficult, especially for boxing. Backup healing is good to have tho. Many combinations are possible. Some are more defensive and might kill slower while other combinations can kill or travel faster. The tank can be a WAR, SHD, PAL or a pet class. Magician and necro are fine while the beastlord pet is weak at lower to medium levels even with slowed mobs, but it does get stronger after that. You want to have snare, slow and root/mez/charm in your group for crowd control. A bard can do all but root and can even single pull. ................................................................................................................................................................. Easy difficulty SHD + SHM . snare, slow, haste, root/mez/charm, evac, ports, DS, tracking, basic foraging, picklock, invis, IvU . Tons of buffs but is not the best duo for pulling and CC. The duo has medium to high DPS. ................................................................................................................................................................. PAL + DRU . snare, slow, haste, root/mez/charm, evac, ports, DS, tracking, foraging, picklock, invis, IvU . DRU does receive mass snare/root and both have the aggro reducing lull/harmony spell lines for easier pulls. Very defensive duo as both classes are good backup healers but does lack slow and haste. DRU can mez and charm animals (and plants at lower levels). DRU can be replaced by a RNG for more DPS and Earthcaller (melee proc) slow but does have less CC and support. The duo has low DPS. ................................................................................................................................................................. Medium difficulty WAR + BRD . snare, slow, haste, root/mez/charm, evac, ports, DS, tracking, foraging, picklock, invis, IvU . BRD is the best puller, WAR is the best tank. Pretty straightforward with single pulls but does lack advanced CC. The only listed duo that can open locked doors for rather low level zones like Old Sebilis, Ssra and Vex Thal. The duo has medium DPS. ................................................................................................................................................................. High difficulty MAG + ENC . snare, slow, haste, root/mez/charm, evac, ports, DS, tracking, basic foraging, picklock, invis, IvU . Two pet classes with many buffs and auras. Very versatile duo that can handle nearly all situations with great mana regen. Mage pets do become good tanks at medium and higher levels. The duo has medium DPS. ................................................................................................................................................................. NEC + BST . snare, slow, haste, root/mez/charm, evac, ports, DS, tracking, basic foraging, picklock, invis, IvU . Two pet classes. Not the best duo for pulling and CC but can offtank mobs and heal their pets. NEC can mez and charm undeads (only) and can grant the mana hungry BST some of it's mana. The duo has high DPS. ::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::: Trio boxing You need three core roles: Tank, DPS, CC + puller. One merc will do the healing as it is very uncomfortable to box a main healer. Here a setup that I do call the "Slacker Travel Group". As you can see at the blue tags, about everything is covered. snare, slow, haste, root/mez/charm, evac, ports, DS, tracking, foraging, (picklock), invis, IvU ................................................................................................................................................................. Tank: Magician - Earth pet wil be a beast above lvl 100 when having much pet AAs. The magician is also DPS, has CotH, the best DS and pet toys. More comfortable to play than a plate tank (positioning). Can pet pull and can summon Worlu's Windcloak at lvl 71 which does grant SoS (advanced Invis + IVU). Combined with CotH this is nice. Each class can also drink Potion of Unlife Awareness. ................................................................................................................................................................. CC: Enchanter or bard. Bard is by far the best puller but does need melee positioning. Does also speed up travelling and has picklock (not needed in end game on live servers), tracking and foraging. Enchanter has IvU and best CC and best group mana regen, auras like the powerfull Twincast Aura at lvl 84, and buffs. Boxing two pet classes can be annoying when one is a magician even that there are synergy effects. ................................................................................................................................................................. DPS: Druid if you want travel options, best foraging, tracking, emergency healing, additional CC and evac. Also a great class if you focus on quests and progression. Does receive an aura for synergy effects with magican and bard fire spells and procs. Necro would offer more DPS than the druid and can offtank adds, but has not many usefull extra tools for boxing. IvU is usefull. ................................................................................................................................................................. Healer: Cleric mercenary ::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::: . . Great to see updated content guide! I'll be honest, I've played sparingly on and off since 1999, and every time I drop in for a month or two, I'm completely lost on what to do, where to do it and how to do it. I always end up in zones that are recommended and get my rear end beat because of pathing issues, or something that makes it more dangerous than it seems. Wouldn't be an issue in most games to trial and learn, but with XP loss it feels like something to avoid doing if you don't know exactly what you are getting into. Gear paths, quest paths, appropriate zones are all so finicky. More guides, more info is always nice to see.
Thx for your feedback apewty. I added even more links so that it will be easier to find the locations, NPCs, quests and equipment. The experience loss today is rather small and not important anymore in the lower to mid levels (1-65). Just a few NPC kills will restore all the lost experience there. All you have to make sure is that you do not loose a PC level because of scribed spells and equipped gear and that you do ressurect your PCs by a cleric, healer merc or in the Guild Lobby where you can summon and rez all your corpses for free. And there is a free veteran AA (Alt-V) that can do the same once a week or so by even restoring 100% exp.
Guildhall Exploration Quests--New Aug every Ten Levels If you join a guild or create your own, you can rerun the Guild Hall Explorer Quest every 10th level for a new Aug. The augs are not world beaters, but they are quite nice for the level of difficulty to optain. 1) Zone in to the Guild Lobby from Plane of Knowledge 2) Near the end of the entry hall, find Kesiri Dawnlark on your left. Hail and follow text. 3) Next time you hit 10, 20, 30, 40, etc, return to Kesiri to rerun the quest. You won't get blue text on subsequent runs, you will have to manually type /say "Guild Halls" (no quotes) with Kesiri targeted to triger the quest. This quest is really good for new characters created on TLPs after the quest is introduced.
Not good Too many blanks. Too all over the place. What I see is how to level 1 to 40, theres guides from 2002 on this, nothing new, why your guide? 2002 guides are better on how to get to lvl 40. Then you go on into adventures requires others, all of those. It's ok if the newbie has friends but if they don't you have nothing for after lvl 40. People say box. You have no newbie guide boxing information, on how to box. All those boxer programs? GINA triggers? You don't mention downloading maps. Downloading other programs. You don't mention basic rotations. Even your 1-40 is bad, north ro period, alligators they drop extra defiant gear, like the non visibles. Your guide doesn't talk about defiant gear and secret locations like North Ro. Nothing really against but, all these newbies are bad. There is just too much info and people share there own rather collaborate. This is basically what collaboration is one site, https://metabattle.com/wiki/Build:Chronomancer_-_Power_Chrono 0. Last updated 1. Build 2. Usage 3. Items 4. Rotation, Expected DPS 5. Video example 6. Comments video examples to showcase Everyone in EQ still lives in stone age, Quest modern era people "let me look up on youtube" Hopefully this person has a video of it, https://www.youtube.com/@zaraxeq968/videos old era people "let me check allakhazam or look for written writeup" Game needs more video guides than these written writeups. Written with a video is best. Also, need more context like Stoneburnt Mts 15-40? Everything roams, that zone is terrible because everything is roaming, take forever to find things to kill unless you know a spot, and your mentioning the spot, you're just saying 15-40 is doable here, thats not really helpful. Instead you can say open map and use zone guide it will 15-40. Put in your level it will tell whats doable. You didn't mention using zone guide. Epics, based on class you pick, you don't say if your a cleric and your lvl 25 consider to go level in Sol A, fight by the Gimblox spawn, if he spawns keep the item he drops. Now at 45 consider leveling in Skyfire and if Pearlescent Fragment drop keep it! This game got a lot of catching up to do when it comes to guides. Especially post 90. A 95, or 100 heroic? Thats a newbie. Wheres the guides on Heroic lvl 100? Start boxing. Ok what do they need to start boxing, rotations and setup and being efficient. What to do. Xp is a whole new ball game post 100. It's not kill stuff and level. Methods? Alt tab or alternative ways to box? Triggers to help boxing? GINA triggers?
@uberkingkong Thx for your feedback. I do not consider a player with a lvl 85 or 100 PC a newbie anymore because that content is much tougher than lvl 1-40 and not good for newbies. If a newbie does buy a heroic character it is their and DBG's problem and not mine. Heroic characters are good for experienced players that want to skip low level content without PL. My newbie guide does not claim to be complete. It is there to offer clueless newbies a basic orientation and showing them a few and easy possibilities to start with, without overtaxing them. They frequently do show up in the newbie forums and my guide does cover many of the usual and repetitive questions. By clicking on my signature, the players can find tons of additional informations and on the linked sites, and pretty sure quite a few did so already. Boxing for newbies ? Bad idea. NRO a secret area ? Feel free to add your own guide here or in another thread ! A Heroic guide would be a nice addition.
Have added a simple class guide for boxing because I didn't wanted to add another thread for that where I would have a problem to find my own infos. The layout has been revamped again.
This will never get stickied as the very first thing you see when you click on your link is "daybreak censorship"...and it's just your posts that have been removed for violating forum rules... Quick edit: while the forums are accessible to the public, they're still private property of Daybreak. As such, they can moderate their forums anyway they see fit. Not to mention your "information" is simply opinions and not very accurate...wouldn't be holding your breath.
@Randomized Which informations are only opinions and not accurate ? You both are candidates for receiving an award of being the most toxic forum members in 2023.
Since when is correcting misinformation considered toxic? And all of your information that you havent just copy and pasted from Zam is opinions. Your leveling guide is very confusing and poorly constructed and doesn't have a clear nor detailed path to it. Your level ranges "well selected zones" is a confusing list as well. What's so great about them? Why not other easier access zones with better experience rates and gear? Also HAs do not require 3 players. You can run those solo if you so chose. And you only mention Gribbles for the entirety of CoTF. Failing to mention the benefits that come with heroic stats that are obtainable by doing all the HAs Everything about boxing is very inaccurate aside from 2 boxing us two characters and 3 boxing is 3 characters. You also fail to mention Heros Journey which offers great gear for completing aspects of it as well as a decent experience path and direction for people to take I could keep going. Would you like me to?
Thx for your feedback. Correcting misinformations is not toxic, but your style is, like stating that my informations are only opinions. I will correct some of the flaws. To make things clear: It is a newbie (quick start) guide and not a complete disseration. The informations there are good enough for a start imo. I do not want to put huge amounts of time and energxy into it by describing every little detail, and the players should not be enforced to follow a single path. All I do is offering the players a few options and all that for free. I do not get paid for doing that. Some stuff that you mentioned is not relevant to newbies, or is just obsolete on live servers, like the rewards from the Heroes' Journey. I have not copied anything from ZAM, I only linked to that site and used some of those informations as a data basis. Boxing is really a bit subjective, as everyone made different experiences there, and has its own play style and predilections. I did the difficulty ratings to bring some structure into it and they are definetly based on my own experiences but going to say that they are only opinions is going to far as there are facts involved. A new player does need some guidance and that is just what I do offer. It does not have to be 100% correct and by nature it is impossible to make it 100% correct to everyone. Instead of pure critics I would prefer constructive critics from you, like offering me detailed informations of what can be added to the leveling guide: Zone, level range, and difficulty. It does not mean that I will add it, and I might change some details if doing so.
So why should they follow your path vs the hundred other beginner guides that are more in depth and have had huge amounts of time and energy put into them? You may want to check some of the rewards from Hero's Journey once you start getting into the 70+ level ranges. When defiant falls off and group gear isn't readily available or not cheap on the bazaar. Such as this Paragon piece(s) from completing this achievement. Which is much better than the defiant counter piece But you don't have the time or experience put in to make an actual educated assertion as you are. Like your Paladin and your Berserker. What happened to pairing two melee together? And you're only level 60 with the admittance you may never level higher. You're not even half way through the game yet. You're missing so many defining tools that make either of the characters. So how can you actually explain what to do or how to do it or why to avoid it when you...just don't know? I have never, nor will I ever, be forthright as that. Instead I will phase it in a way to make you think and use your own brain and figure it out. I do this to new/returning players in general chat all the time. And do i get called a for it? No. I've actually had people message me and say "hey, thanks for sticking it out and trying to teach that guy. I know how frustrating it can be when they just don't seem to get it". Stop taking constructive criticism as a personal attack (which is what you do).
I haven't seen much constructive criticism from you yet, and I think that you are overestimating yourself totally. If you could find a way to turn your destructive energy into a creative one, you could be a lucky man. JFYI, I have several toons at lvl 115 and played about all classes.
Because you only see constructive criticism as me telling you exactly what the answer is. Stop being so narrow minded. Played all classes but not at anywhere that experience is going to matter. Again, Zerker and Paladin. I can play all 16 classes to level 30. Does that give me the right to start telling people how they're played and what their difficulty rating is? No...so you probably shouldn't be doing that either. And congratulations for having 3 characters at 115. I've got 3 characters at 120, a few between 100-115, and a handful between 50-100. All within the last 5 months. How long have you been playing and only have a few at 115? More time in game, less time on the forums (unless you're asking for help). And not just for levels, but simply understanding the ins and outs of classes. Like your whole take on Rangers and how they're affected by Root breaking from DDs is so far in left field it's funny.
