Necromancer DOT updates?

Are these going to happen anytime soon? At least from a progression server standpoint the "premier" dot damage class could use an update because currently our "best" dots are essentially the ones that overlap with Shaman which got upgraded already.

As soon as they finish up the release of Everquest Next! Its only almost been 2 years so give them some time.

They royally jacked up druid and shaman dps and it appears they don't fully understand why, so now they are gun shy. There is zero reason priest classes and a support class should have 15+ to 28K base dots, never mind allowing chromatic haze to benefit some priest dots for ticks in the millions of damage range at the highest levels of the game.

Best guess is IF there is a level cap increase in the upcoming expansion they are going to try and work the dot revamps for necros in our new spells. This kind of lets them hide the good and bad of what they do a little bit more than having just done our revamp at another time without fully showcasing that they winged it for 2 years.

There is no official info about if/when it will happen. As well, there isn't any real info on what they will do if they do it.

Yeah, it has been quite some time since they promised our dot damage would be increased. Within that time we've seen dot damage increased of other classes that aren't really premier dotter's. That was kind of a slap to the face, but they had to nerf Reluctant benevolence in the meantime, to keep us in our places. I'm sure the epic nerf is next. They can't have us OP necro's out dps'ing clerics, after all.

Druid dots ticking for 6-8 million say hi. I think this is a good insight, they seemed to have reigned in Shaman DPS but druids are still putting out insane DPS. I think they may be scared of turning Necromancers into the most OP DPS the game has ever seen and thus have given up ever doing the revamp on them.

did they revamp bard dots ?
  7. fransisco Augur

I'm pretty sure bard dots were changed in the past year

They got away with "consolidating" the DoTs of other classes, although it still created some issues. I don't really think they can do that with necros. It'll make them way, way too strong in raids. As much as there's no way it'll ever actually happen, if they touch necro DoTs, they really need to completely revamp them.

Personally, I'd like to see them have stronger, but fewer and shorter duration dots. Make swift dots raid usable again. Get the number of dots down to one spell set worth. With shorter durations you could still create a rotation that required attention to maintain even with one spell set worth.

I mean, surely they didn't go revamp all other classes DoTs (making them effectively much better) with the intention of never making any compensating changes to necro DoTs?
  10. fransisco Augur

this was never about other classes vs necros.

Dot revamps were about the fact that only necro dots were ever worth casting.
So they made other classes dots also worth casting

worth casting to the point that ours look like in comparison.

Instead of just making stuff up in your head and then posting it as facts maybe you should actually read the intent the devs posted on the matter.

Can't quote since its long been locked but the important parts are highlighted for you:

We're planning to make this same transition for all classes that use DoTs over the next few months. Other classes probably won't see the same boost in base damage that Beastlords have, since they have fewer innate boosts to DoT damage than other classes, but we expect everyone to be doing more damage, ramping that damage up faster, using more mana (though more efficiently), and using fewer debuff slots on their targets.

If you read the post, you might have picked up on the context of the thread Mills. Ryak was upset about the idea that necros might never get a dot change. As well, many people (you included) have a seige mentality and think of this as a zero sum issue.

Dot changes were always about more than necros - infact they mostly were NOT about necros. They were/are about all classes with dots.
Is anything I said factually false? Or does it not fit into the pointless necro seige mentality?

They didn't really revamp them. They gave us an AA line with EoK that modified them to make them at least semi-modern from a DPS standpoint, instead of the waste of space they used to be.

    SK super dots, wru!

This was always about dot revamps for all to fix the debuff cap issue, period. The devs intent per their own words was help fix the debuff cap issue by reducing the number of dots being used on mobs, they called it 'layering". The tuning was and is situational for each class and they still have tuning wrong for priests and enchanters but the tuning of dots was not the goal you seem to be claiming. These changes were not done so other classes got to catch up to necromancers and necromancers would have nothing done because they did ok with dots already. It was to reduce using 20 or more dots on mobs to be effective.

    Their words:
"Over the past few months, we've been reviewing the way DoTs work (not some classes dots) and how we would like to improve them (everyone) going forward. As most of you know, there's a limited number of debuff slots available on any given NPC, which conflicts with DoT classes wanting to layer as many spells as possible on any given NPC in order to maximize damage. This layering has contributed to a lot of problems over the years; most notably, it takes a lot of spell slots away from players who want to maximize DoT damage, and it uses up many of the limited debuff slots available on raid targets.

Necros biggest gripe in all this is they did the complete opposite so far by waiting to do necros last. the class that has the biggest impact on the debuff cap and that is the most impacted from issues with it still sits by waiting almost two years later. They made the thing they supposedly wanted to fix worse and have said jack about it outside of Aristo saying last year at the end of beta that once he tied up his EoK stuff that he would finish revamps. Here we are on the verge of RoS and still nada.

raise the debuff room on raid mobs please .. pls for the million'th time .. pls ... pretty pls with sugar on top .. and a cherry ... plz
  19. menown Augur

The necro class is suffocating. There is no room for their weaker DoTs anymore. Every other dotting class, except SK, has stronger DoTs than necros now. Some of these other classes have as many DoT AAs as necros do. So who do you think will get priority over prime DoT slots in the debuff window?

Shamans could definitely use another tweak or two with regards to DOTS, as the DPS they are capable of putting out right now is pretty comical when you consider they have always been insane healers. If we had a couple more active shamans that raided regularly, we would definitely have a couple shaman just go pure DPS mode, because they are a very solid DPS class if they can just focus on DPS, especially with regards to sustained.
