Mix it up a bit for new expansions

Pretty sure DB does not put profits second to not making folks mad. But if you want to believe that you are welcome to.

I tend to be one of the folks on the server looking out for more casual players but even I don't buy that argument.

None of us see the data DB has and I suspect they have less info to go on then we think but I am fairly sure new players are not a major source of income for as far as EQ goes. New players would be the main target for low level zones.

A lot of the existing players that play in the low level zones do so because they can do so without there being any crowds. Yes its an MMO but an MMO with a rather old average age and while folks socialize most like to do it on their own terms when they wan to.

But he knows what's better for a multi-million dollar company than they do, with all his data that they've given so he can make the proper financial decisions.

People being mad because the already limited amount of content would be reduced even further to create zones that are not needed? Everquest would not see new or returning players because they made a new lower level zone or two in a new expansion but they would see existing players upset that they got less content then they already get and complain about not being enough.

It's an easy trap we all fall into at one time or another. I wish DB would do everything the way I like it but would they stay in business doing that? Not so sure :) Too much info I don't have that they do that goes into their decisions. Or at least I hope that they have a lot more info then me.

Glad to hear you are looking out for casual players. I figure the game Devs still have that mental mind set they had to deal with elite guilds and top players way back.

But is the trend still there or am I missing something?

I do not know how they are going to survive without investing at leave tiny amount to the new and return players.

Yeah, we all have our wish-lists. I learned a long time ago to just be flexible and adapt. And if the changes are too harsh for my senses, then I'll throw the towel in.

I'll voice my opinion, but im never going to get upset and and throw a tantrum. Not over a video game. Theres too many variables and positives right now for me to quit over something so trivial

Its there to some extent but toned down a fair bit in my opinion. But I have to acknowledge that it is a hard balancing act for DB.

Let's change the angle. What is it that new players are needing exactly?
  9. LesserArchi Elder

Honestly, I have no Idea, wish I can answer that for you and DB. I think they are improving the UI as I heard. That should help with everyone.

I probably should not have written below but. Just summarizing newcomer has to go thru.
If there is a newcomer, then I figure they probably enjoy from 1 thru 50 or so solo/molo.
Level 70 to 80, hit the wall and either quit or best need to join the large casual guild.
I figure most players must sub at this point get the J5 merc.
After that they could either stay playing or quit.
Probably will depend lot on whether they can get the easy grouping or not.
I do not see the newcomers have patient and time sink to wait for group, etc.

And they can decide to get Heroic toon... don't need to say more at this point.

I want to focus on these two aspects.

    1) player demands: I saw this a lot with my 10 year tenure at WoW. Players demand we need new stuff (like things for new/returning players), and when asked "what stuff", those makinfnthe demands have no idea. Nada. Nothing. Just crickets. What are devs supposed to do with an "i don't know"

When making a request, have an idea. Some example. A spark. A direction doe the devs to go in.

    2) catching up: new players have sooo many QoL catch up mechanics compared to when I started its not even funny. The tutorial, full sets of armor, Crescent Reach as a hub, over powered mercs that have the best and highest tier at level 1, 85/100 heroics.

DBG has given the tools to bypass the empty portions of the game

What is that supposed to be mean?

I've pointed out some huddle in-between and mountain of things they have go thru after getting heroic toon (I did not have to point this out, since it's discussed a lot in past posts).
  12. Waring_McMarrin Augur

Reducing the limited content for max level players isn't going to solve that problem.

One of the ideas was to give lower-level player something to enjoy in new expansion in this thread, not for fresh newbie. 100 heroic may enjoy the expansion if DB allows. If newcomer enjoyed the game, then more than likely decide to get 100 Heroic toon (edit), if they see future in it.

They more than likely have to be get gud soon or later I figure.

85/100 heroics are obsolete as lots of people pointed out but can the DB tailor to 100 level in new expansion?
  14. Waring_McMarrin Augur

They already have plenty of content at lower levels and the other features in the expansion will still be available to them.
    Ssdar and Randomized like this.
  15. Randomized Augur

There's that something again. What exactly?

And why can't they enjoy the previous 20 years worth of content. Why does it have to be in the next expansion?

  16. LesserArchi Elder

What do you think something means?
Something to kill probably, does someone has to spell that out for you?

Go play on deserted island again, did you not read thru countless comments about this?
  17. Randomized Augur

Calm down. I'm not attacking you. I'm showing you the error of pointless vague requests.

If it's just something to kill in the next expansion, there's 24 other expansions worth of content for them to kill. There is absolutely zero reason go 85-100 level mobs in a 125 level expansion.

There also has yet to be a good reason that someone has come up with to do so
  18. Shakara Augur

Because they are not in a position to support anymore features. Live players always complain they don't get enough content. You think another feature they need to update and bug fix is going to get you more or less content in the future?
  19. Waring_McMarrin Augur

Any new low level zones will have the exact same problems with the lack of players.
Yinla, Ssdar and Svann2 like this.
  20. Shakara Augur

Nothing because that's not what I said. You can have new without asking the devs to make new zones and new mobs. The hypothetical is that players will quit if they don't get this and that's just not the reality in gamming. People have been replaying the same content in Runescape for over 20 years and it has a much better player base than this game and all they do is add a new raid or two every so often. They keep people interested by constantly updating their content not trashing what they already made and starting from scratch. If you dont want copy pasta stuff then you are going to have to get realistic.
