Massive Lag....

I quit playing EQ a few months ago, because the lag was getting worse. I can barely move around in zones. I have reinstalled the program, cleaned out logs, adjusted setting to help things move faster, and turned off windows defender as suggested. I am running windows 10, and I was told that there was a fix for this problem on the forums, but I have searched for hours and found nothing... Can anyone link me to this discussion, or tell me how I can fix my problem. I used to be able to run 4 accounts, and now I cant even keep 1 going. EQ is the only place I have issues, I have a nice computer with a good processor and graphics card. I believe it is just in the software and need to figure this out. I would really like to play again.

Uninstall and reinstall your GPU drivers.

Control Panel, Power Options, select High Performance. Other settings can cause the system to throttle down cause EQ may not be using enough resources.

If Nvidia GPU, open up its panel, 3D, Power Management Mode, change from adaptive to Max Performance. This ensures that EQ is actually the Nvidia GPU and not the CPU's built-in GPU.

I don't have Nvidia... I have ATI Radeon HD 3200

There have been some changes to security in Windows 10.

After installing the Windows 10 Anni edition - I started getting 0 to 3 FPS when looking at pretty much any character model.

The solution that corrected the problem for me:

    1. Turn off Windows Defender.
    2. Go into your Virus protection / firewall program and make an exception for your EQ directory folder, eqgame.exe, and Launchpad.exe.
    3. If you use a regular hard drive for everquest (not an SSD), type in Performance in your search box (bottom left) -> Select 'Adjust the appearance and performance of windows.' -> Click on the Advanced tab -> Select 'Change' in the Virtual Memory section. -> If you do not have a Custom size selected, Select your main non-SSD and then select 'Custom size.' AT the bottom of the page you will see a couple numbers - Recommended and Currently allocated. In the 'Initial size (MB): enter the recommended number and in the Maximum size (MB): put the Currently allocated number. Hit 'Set.' Hit 'OK." Select Apply on the previous window. Reboot your computer.

The reason that I mention number 3. is that I had a custom size set of my computer and after the updated it switched back to "Automatically manage paging file size for all drives." If this fixes your problem you can go back to the virtual memory section and adjust your number to what you desire.

After doing these three things, EQ ran 100% normally again. These steps were the only changes I made. I didn't reinstall video drivers.

If this works for you, please let us know.

I'm having a similar problem. I noticed it started about a week ago, so I think it might have something to do with the last patch but I could be wrong. Was working fine 2 weeks ago, could 3 box without it getting too choppy. Now it's lagging whenever I move near groups of PCs, even 2 or 3 chars. It even lags at the character select screen if it's a luclin models, char just stutters real slow. I turned off all luclin model and turned down all graphic settings and that helps as long as there's no one around but on raids I have to stair at the floor or the ceiling.
I've tried reinstalling my GPU driver, tried turning off windows defender, but no difference. I don't know what to do at this point.

Ok well I re-downloaded eq to a different file... not having the stutter lag at the character select screen. lag in general is better, however, still have to turn all graphic settings down, and still lags on raids and in groups. will see if this patch changes anything. pretty hard to 3 box with all the lag.
