Mangler True Box?

Discussion in 'Time Locked Progression Servers' started by AWM89, Apr 6, 2020.

Either y'all stopped caring or can't find people that are doing it.

But I just came across someone with 18+ characters being boxed..

Everyone knows that truebox means 1-18+ characters.

Unfortunately, Mangler as a progression server has failed and there's probably no reason to develop anything further for it. My belief is that Darkpaw now uses it as a test platform for Aradune and Rizlona. It only makes sense considering their altered respective rule sets.

"Truebox" just means one EQ client per physical computing device.

It does not stop having dozens of such devices in your house and toons on autofollow to create the scene you depict.

If you can prove they are being run virtually or automated in some way that violates the rules, open a support ticket presenting that evidence.

That's right, its pretty common to have 20-30 laptops (or desktops) in your house/apartment just to play EverQuest. Let me ask you this, how would you control them all? You would really take the time to walk between bedrooms, kitchens, hallways, and bathrooms?

Lol, do you know how ridiculous your idea sounds right?

    LOL, Sam the Man.

Edit: A piece of human garbage, I should add.

Do you really believe that nonsense? I'm a 5 boxer. I true box. I'm not anti-box. I'm also not a fool. I acknowledge that there are people using botting software to control 6-N boxes on a single PC. You'd be a fool if you thought otherwise.

So you have people like this who have plagued the server since it opened that they do nothing about but they suspend one of my accounts (out of 4...I have 3 physical machines currently and 4th is otw ) for running a single character in a VM. There is no justice at DPG.

one of my guildmates on Mangler did 18 box... and he streamed himself doing it, and he literally just had computers everywhere and would wheel around his chair doing things. so yes... it's possible.

    it's unlikely, but possible.

If he was doing it for the krono he probably should have played 1 toon and put the other machines mining crypto. Probably a far better return on investment.

I've seen people do this and it just amazes me that anyone would actually want to.

I've had my wife's cleric on for pocket heals and even that felt like work.

It's not against the rules though, so more power to him.

I think you're missing the point of the person pointing out that true box only means one client per computer. Of course the person picture is most likely breaking the rules, but how do you (as Daybreak/Darkpaw) PROVE that the person doesn't have a whole lot of computers? Is it some random number that they pick.

I like how you said you 5 box without breaking the rules but anyone 6+ boxes probably is breaking the rules! My personal number is anyone more than 2 is probably cheating so under my arbitrary number you would be banned. That's why it is so hard to enforce true box.

Maybe he's just super popular and that's his loyal posse ;)

In all the discussion on botters I've never actually seen anyone raise the issue of power consumption required for say, 18 computers. If you run that many computers to play one game... You are a wasteful polluter that is harming the environment. Really... you are absolutely pitiful if you do that. So this boxer is a degenerate either way. Either a) he is cheating and breaking the true box rules or b) he is a severe glutton... both undesirable and shouldn't be encouraged. I can't believe people are actually defending this person. By the way... I'm a boxer, i've used 3 computers tops on truebox servers and I six box on one PC on live. my problem is not boxing but botters/cheaters... also gluttons.
If you have 18 computers I'd hate to see how much toilet paper you have.

I've raised the issue. It's one of the reasons I've advocated for a new non-truebox progression server with AoC's. Even boxing two or three on two or three separate computers is wasteful when one computer is sufficient for the task. The Truebox experiment has been very environmentally unfriendly.

I hear DPG is going with CoalBox rules next server.

After dealing with the monthly sub for 18 accounts - probably none. I mean at the monthly rate, that's like $269 bucks a month. Even if you pay yearly, it's still going to be about $200.00 a month.

And if you are farming Kronos for it all - then I don't possibly see how it's an enjoyable experience. EQ (all MMOs really) are enough of a hamster wheel - you raid to get loot so that you can raid to get loot... but that's taking it to a "should see a psychologist" level.

I'd most certainly bet on this person farming Krono to sell on some site that's probably selling your credit card info as well, lol.

It costs me about 25 to 30 usd per month to 6 box in electricity. Four of my machines are minimal setups with small psu and no gpu at all. It isn't the computers so much as the LCD screens and the air conditioning that is required to deal with the heat from the gear. I only air condition one room, with a small window mounted unit that does not run 100% of the time even in the summer. Running 18 setups with each their own screen would be a substantial amount of heat, I doubt my window unit would cover it. Might be a lot less trouble in a basement if you wanted to go balls out for the stereotype.

and sorry for being inflammatory.. not really trying to rally hard for the environment, just that you can sort of reasonably conclude that a person is not doing this and is therefore VMing etc..

We know they won't do anything about the mqusers boxing full raids but you'd think that the "Tuby" people selling Time loot every couple of days - yes, despite what the lockout should be - would raise an eyebrow. Of course that assumes it is not DBG employees doing it.
