Except all those people asking me if they can join my group or would I tank for them etc.

Congratulations! You are now part of the problem and one of the main causes of the game's decline! Enjoy your fun at the expense of those around you! We sure do appreciate it!

Riveting tale. I'm sure some people actually believe it.

Not even remotely. EQ has flaws, but someone playing a full group isn't one of them. Hopefully he will inspire others to box.

No, this is literally one of the biggest.

thanks to everyone and their mother boxing, everything is balanced around a full perfect group these days. Its not a good thing.

similar to the issue Fallout 76 currently has with "legacy" weapons, they're so common that they have to balance encounters against them, but as they aren't obtainable any longer, anyone without one is at a severe disadvantage.

The same issue is happening here... years of designing the content for a full min-maxed group has left the live game in a state where if your trying to do it solo or with a friend your out of luck unless your stay an expansion or two behind.

boxing is eq cancer and has been eating at this games soul for a decade+. Its too late to save the patient sadly. (IMO)

Yeah, I'm late to the server. Catching up is a struggle and unless you can tank or heal, a lot of people just ignore my tells when attempting to form a group. I wouldn't even take your loot bro, you can't drop a box for lil' ol' me? :( You can camp that rare anytime like you said since you have full group capabilities. What's an hour grouping with a singlebox player, meeting new people, and helping your fellow eq player out? We're all keeping this game alive, that simple act of kindness keeps people around. You not inviting people is entirely your right and choice, and it doesn't "hurt" the game by playing by yourself. However, it does improve the game :) Happy Hunting out there!

There are more accounts linked to boxing on live and tlp then there are single players in the game.

I can't imagine playing like this, sounds horrific. But you guys keep the lights on so whatever floats your boat.

Boxers are not the reason things are balanced around a "perfect" group. Really the modern game isn't balanced around a perfect group but rather a group where everyone plays well. I used to be a really bad paladin who thought I was a good paladin and the game was quite hard for me. Then I learned how to play my class better, I started using multi binds stopped using macros with /pause in them (macros with pause in them are terrible) I started using the right spells.

Some people on the forums don't believe me but there are a lot of dps players running around at 115 or 120 who might out dps a merc here and there or on a named but if you grind out a mission with them and then grind out a mission with a merc on burn and average the whole mission these players are well behind the merc.

There are a lot of players lacking a lot of knowledge in the game, I am not saying its you but this is the real reason why a lot of players don't play with pickup groups. People randomly afk or they play EQ while they're actively watching youtube and they're just pressing their multibind. Healers just letting tanks die to stuff that they shouldn't die to or on the flip side tanks who don't press any of their buttons and expect healers to just keep them alive while they don't do anything defensively while using a 2hander in junk gear.

This aversion to parsing, the fact that there's no in game parser to let these players know how much they freaking suck is why people don't play with pugs. I play with pugs and I see these problems. I focus on having fun with people and only worry about trying to improve people if we group more than a few times because it's hard to help people improve their gameplay.

And this isn't just pug issues, this is an issue in raid guilds doing current content. Other people here can attest there's some real suck in the top 10 raid guilds. If you're a melee dps you know who the bad shaman is in your guild, if you're a caster and you get paired with a certain druid you know you're not getting any heals that night. Or you're the druid and you know this wiz who never casts his shield and stands in the bad.

Don't blame boxers for people not wanting to group with you, most players don't 6 box. Most players who do box only have one or two. If you want more groups you need to make friends, you need to help people maybe even join a discord and voice chat with people.

If you don't want to make friends, and you don't want to voice chat while you're playing the game then you might just be the bad player who is busy reading forums when that pull came in and you missed healing the tank. Good job you just wiped your group.

touched a nerve did I? I never had any issues finding a group when I last played live, but that is because I am good at my class (or was circa CoTF; the game has morphed into something unrecognizable lately where you can earn more XP not playing then getting a group together and going into a dungeon and camping something)

If they had to balance live around the MERC tank/healer combo, are you seriously telling me that the content wouldn't need a huge nerf? (or that mercs a HUGE buff) right... no they seem to balance around having a real tank and healer in your box crew. (Again, I haven't played live in years so trying to throw shade at me is pointless)

I am not sure what this is about exactly, but you shoulda been key binding from day one everyone knows this or should in this day and age, the older gamers especially if you came from UO where clicking wasn't even remotely viable and barely possible.
If you don't know the game well enough commands like /pause can be detrimental.
A good UI and good binds go along way.
But being good or bad in EQ as an excuse? That's a massive stretch. The classic game doesn't have the mechanics to matter, its tank and spank.

Is Mark any relation to Paul?

The problem here is the anti-social behaviors people seem to insist on projecting on to an MMO.
There is nothing inherently wrong with it. Sometimes we wanna solo to play after a long day of work or we want to jump in and just grind it out at our own pace.

But realistically the issue is not the boxing or the "skill" of a player. Its the lack of socializing, mostly its things like sitting there /LFG on and spamming channels for an 10+ minutes and not forming a group. Then complaining its because of boxers.

I don't box myself but I know if I don't find a group on my own I am gonna start forming something, or sometimes I might at least duo or maybe duo-box with a second account (note I consider "boxing" anything with more than 3 char).

Worse case I leave /lfg and solo or just solo.

Heh, nah. Paul's communication style is much different.
  17. Laronk Augur

Mercs are supposed to just be a stopgap until you find a real player. A lot of stuff can be done with a merc healer, people say that things can be done with a merc tank as well but I think it's harder to make that happen.
Are you talking about overseer? I've only done that mini game a couple times, I guess you could level with it slowly or you could just add it to your list of things you can do while you're lfg trying to form a group.
  18. Laronk Augur

Oh I wasn't talking about mouse clicking, I was comparing using the ingame macro system to do something like /cast 1 /cast 2 /cast 3 on different lines to cast the first available spell. vs binding all those spells to the same button and pressing that button. This is not an issue in classic I was just using an example from the game.

The later expansions do get more complicated in terms of dps but even in classic there's some bad players or the players randomly afk, or they need a smoke break every 15. My box cleric plays when I want him to play, he doesn't forget to heal me because he's watching youtube or reading some forum instead of paying attention to the game.

I agree the mark specifically is a problem, but boxing is not his issue. He's self contained now and doesn't have to interact with anyone.

Stop it. Its been less than 2 weeks. You arent "late" or ""catching up".
  20. Aenoan Augur

ahh gotcha, yeah I never really made macro's like that. The heaviest macro I've ever made was a /assist, /cast slow, /gsay <target slowed> or whatever, I actually don't remember how it works I just for some reason picture that in my head. lol.

But I definitely have a butt load of keybinds on my action bars. I am still trying to find a good way to set my ui the way I like but so far this ones been pretty comfortable
