Live Truebox/All-Access only server?

Would it be possible to take the Phinny ruleset (one client per machine, subscription required), but apply it to a Live (Empires of Kunark and beyond) environment?

I would personally love to play on a Live server where boxing is heavily deterred. Based on my experience on a Live server versus being on Phinny, I found Phinny to be a far more enjoyable and social experience.

Otherwise, the ruleset would be left alone. Yes, this means Mercenaries are legal, but I feel that they're a necessary evil considering how vast the game has become.

I'm not saying there are enough people out there like me who are looking for this environment, but at least to gauge interest, would DBG be open to holding an in-game poll for All-Access members?

    Thank you!

I always assumed they were using Phinny as a testing grounds to see if it could be profitable to do the same on a live server.

I'd think there is probably afew folks who would like this (I am not one of them, but I will say good luck in your quest)

I think the feature of Phinny I would really kill for on a Live server is the aggressive disabling of the 3rd party program which shall not be named. I know using it is held dear by certain people, but why shouldn't Live server players have the same choice that TLP players have: To be able to choose deliberately to play on a server where it's disabled? Kinda insulting not to have that choice, frankly.

It is possible. Not sure I would expect it before Phinny reaches Live... as that would be it right there.

I recognize that is not the same as launching a new Live server right now with truebox code. New servers tend to be closed to transfers in, and the examples from recent years seem to be pretty quiet population wise, and they are F2P accessible, iirc.

I think this is a great idea! I support 3rd-party software usage (tho I am afraid to use M Q 2 because of the threat of being banned), but a TrueBox live server would give all the haters a place to live, so they would quit crying about boxers and botters.

Put an end to the argument by giving the old-school, "can't-stand-change", "everybody else is a cheater" crowd their own place to play by themselves. YES!

    Give them free transfers even!

Yeah you might as well just play on Phinny and ride the expac releases to the Live version.

Umm aren't you the guy who says Daybreak doesn't ban anyone for that anymore?
  9. NameAlreadyInUse #CactusGate

I am a guy who says there isn't any evidence that DBG still bans for using that software. And I am a guy who points out that DBG loves to show off their TrueBox code, and could seemingly prevent people from using that software, if they wanted to.

I am also a guy who has asked for DBG to comment on the issue, to help prevent the proliferation of misinformation and to allow everybody a fair chance to play with the same tools.

So you should be the guy who isn't afraid of being banned. You seem to encourage the idea Daybreak won't do anything, you promote third party software and yet you say you are afraid of being banned if you use it. I guess you think Daybreak does enforce the rule sometimes.

I'd approach it like Legends server back in the day. Make it an extra $20 or ever $30 a month so there's a monetary incentive for Daybreak to police the server and a monetary disincentive for multiple accounts.

@Corwyhn, you seemingly haven't been able to read anything beyond the phrase "3rd party software" in any of my posts, in this thread or the numerous other threads that you and I have participated in. It almost seems like a trigger phrase for you and a few of the other naysayers on these forums. You can't seem to acknowledge any new ideas once the phrase has been uttered.

Instead, you seem to get stuck in the reflexive rut of, "it's bad! train all botters! 3rd party software is for cheaters and cheaters must die! And if you don't think 3rd party software is the root of all evil, YOU are evil too!". Once you get that out of your system, let's try to have a conversation again.

I think the truebox idea is dumb. What really is the difference between driving 2 accounts on 1 computer, or 2 accounts on 2 computers?

Edit: Oh, and I should have read above. I'm totally a fan of them killing that program many of us have heard of but shall not be named.

It would only prevent the people like me, where I alt tab between a cleric and warrior at times.
The people with fancy setups, multiple computers it would do nothing to prevent.

That's why they called it truebox I imagine. One account per computer (box). They didn't call it trueplayer for a reason.
