Hey All I played EQ a Loooong time ago. I just randomly picked it up again and boosted a Paladin to 85. Considering The last time I played Velious was the newest expansion I could really use some advice on setting up my character.

Ideally I'd like to my an ideal set of spell bars either a set of buff bars, party bars, solo bars etc. What AA's should I have hot barred. What quests should I focus first, what mercenary should I be using. Any advice would be really appreciated.

My brother is playing a ranger and I hope to be able to duo with him so any tips would be much appreciated. I'm sure people ask this alot so I'll also be searching the forums for tips.

    Thanks again!

Search the forums for 85 paladin and heroic paladin (or just heroic in general). A ton of stuff in threads before...

Most of the advice you will find still holds, but there have been changes since most of us have past through 85 so you might find things that aren't quite right (especially in aas where there has been consolidation).

If you don't know what a multibind is, search for it...several good guides in forums.

If you don't know how to make macros, search for it...several good guides in forums.

I think more paladins follow the crush (dps) spell lineup vs stuns, but it is definitely not settled. DPS is better than you remember for paladins now, but your best overall bet is to be a tank and let your ranger friend (and mercs) dps down mobs (while trying to keep yourself upright).

Most servers do not have a ton of pre-100 loot in the bazaar so you are generally going to have to find your own. Everyone's most hated, but they do it anyway, means of xping and gearing fast involve the heroic adventures in the CotF expansion...mainly Gribbles at Dead Hills. Just ask on your server...people will help you get to them. They are nice controlled areas to get used to the game again as well.

As a heroic, there are a number of aug rewards you gain by doing House of Thule tasks so definitely check those out.

The main site for your level is still everquest.allakhazam.com (but if you don't have a subscription, I hear the ads are pita...I have a sub) and a (relatively) new one eqresource.com. If you web search Fanra Everquest, he has a great wiki full of info. For gear, raidloot.com is very good.

    Welcome back.

This is what I'm using as a guide for me, I don't have some of the higher level spells yet as an 85 paladin, but a quick side-by-side analysis of the spellset should give you a rough idea of what to cast. With a J5 merc I'm having zero trouble tanking and holding agro with just force of disruption and the two crushes.

It would be optimized further I'm guessing, I use shackles of tunare to pull 2 packs and just tank 2+ usually for 3 packs. I think we get a new pacify at 86 so I'll get to play with that.

first with lvl 85 do the merc quest in Feerott the dream, a better merc is golden :)

Nonsense! Take the crappy merc and learn your abilities that much faster ;)
