ideas for improving the advanced loot system

I took the time to read the advanced loot guide and some time to play around with it, and I think that despite complaints it actually has a lot of potential. There are just a few small things missing that need to be changed.

First let me say that when hunting solo, /advloot is the greatest thing since sliced bread. My necro sets bone chips to auto-need and then kills skeletons and I save the RSI and boredom of clicking on corpses and bonechips over and over. This is *awesome*, and I want to give a huge high five to whoever put this in. Likewise, I'll often hunt in a zone that has some semi-common no drop quest thingy that ordinarily I would have to ignore manually over and over. Now, I set a "never" filter, and I never have to see that item again. This is even *more awesome*. Seriously, I love this feature.

But then I tried using it in a group (both boxing and with real friends), and it was not nearly as smooth. Remember that part where there's a no-drop quest item that we never want to see again? Even if everyone in the group has set a never filter, it still shows up for the master looter. And there is no master looter "always leave on corpse" choice, so he or she still has to manually click to get rid of this item after it drops. Disappointing.

Suggestion 1: The Master Looter needs to be able to set an "always leave on corpse" filter.

This one suggestion all by itself would improve my enjoyment of the new loot system by at least double or triple. This is the main reason I love it solo, and not having it in groups is so very disappointing.

After that, when things dropped that everyone wanted a fair chance at--like vendor trash/gems/etc., the master looter can set them to always roll after the first drop, which is nice, and then everyone in the group can set always greed, which is nice, but it still sits around in the window waiting for the ask to take 30 seconds. This is annoying, and can make for a needlessly busy window in a fast killing group. Even worse, when something interesting drops, and people all make their choices, the ask keeps going. The first few times this happened, I wondered what I was doing wrong; what I was missing. But apparently this is just how it works? This is no good.

Suggestion 2: The ask should completely immediately if the last eligible person makes a choice on how to roll. Having it finish automatically is strongly preferable, but if that's not somehow technically impossible, at least let the master looter set the ask timer to something much lower for groups that want to move quickly (for example, groups hunting in a static area who already have filters set up and don't even need to look at the window).

The way it is currently forces the master looter in a quick-killing group to have the loot window up pretty much permanently as vendor trash slowly filters through the ask system. It would be really nice to have those handled automatically so that the window is mostly for handling more important loot.

In a related note, it would be a nice if the master looter could manually end an ask early and have previous choices saved. (Let's call this suggestion 2b.) Right now an ask can be cancelled, but it can't be (successfully) ended early. Having asks end automatically when everyone makes a choice would mostly make that not necessarily, but it would still be a nice feature to have.

Lastly, there are sometimes (often?) hunting situations where a certain drop should always go to a certain player. Maybe your group has one shadowknight, and you want bone chips to always go to her. Or maybe you have a friend who needs to catch up in levels, and the group decides he should get all the crushbone belts. This can be managed by clever cooperative use of each individual's filters, but that sometimes create situations where someone wants one filter in this group and other filters in another group, which is a pain to manage. What would be best is if we could handle that situation directly.

Suggestion 3: Give the master looter an option to "always give to <player name>".

This is a little bit more complicated because that player might not always be in the group, but I think it's easily handled. Either the rule could automatically be removed when that player leaves the group, or the rule could simply be ignored if that player is not in the group (ignoring the rule sounds more useful to me).

In conclusion, I mostly like the advanced loot system. Solo, it's a huge improvement over what we had before. Grouped, it's a little better, probably, but with some significant rough edges. A few minor fixes could make group use of the new system also much better than the old one in groups. If you read this far, thanks for your time, and here's to hoping we can see some continued development on the loot system!

Yeah, I really think the loot options need(ed) an automatic style. Like auto set to Free Grab, auto Leave on Corpse, auto give to Soandso. The option to suppress randoms would be nice, too. If I'm in a group that uses /random I get a ton of spam for every item that drops. I can send /randoms to another window but sometimes we use them in raids to do loot (and I actually want to see them). I don't know if they'd be willing to adjust the loot system at this point, however.

new loot on top instead of the bottom. or is this already an option and i'm too stupid to see where i click?

Fixing that insidious client crash would be really swell also... just saying.
    Taiqwon and Raludar like this.

Auto-deciding immediately if all players have a setting would be wonderful, and covers your "always leave" request quite naturally without some separate rubric that could very forseeably annoy someone that hadn't seen that drop before.

I like, and agree with all these suggestions

    - Add an option to return an item to the corpse when declining to loot it. It's a pain when the ML accidentally clicks the wrong person to assign a no drop item.
    - When selecting an item in the ML list, highlight the corpse. If you're dead when the mob dies and get assigned a drop from it, having to click on 50 corpses to unlock the item is a pain.
    - Allow the ML to disable Need (make need and greed roll equally) rolls. There's always that one random person you grab for a group who tags everything need
    - Add a check box to abstain from all rolls. When adding a box to a real group, I like to only roll for one character despite playing two.
    - Fix the advanced assign option that allows you to choose how many of any given item to give to a player. It gives the entire stack regardless of the number you pick

This one's accommodated already, actually. clicking the corpse's name in the advloot window targets that corpse. /loot opens it

Thanks for the tip. Will try that next time. Will also have to remember to re-enable filtering by npc in those situations.

Are you talking about the manual assign option? I have yet to have it fail to split the items when I adjust the slider on how many to give. I have used this 100s of times now with no issue.

I've tried 10s of times and not once has it worked. If the stack is 5 items and I assign 3, it gives 5 every single time for me.
  12. Brohg Augur

when I want to split like that I just set to Free Grab. that mode only takes what it's supposed to
  13. Evantil Drop Bear Spite Golem

Well that seems like a pain Segap. I don't know what to tell you because it always works for me. I'd be pretty frustrated if it didn't. I hope Brohg's idea works for you.

WTB the option to only have the advloot window pop open when an undecided item shows up for loot. Example - If you have selected always greed for cloth gloves, the window never opens for cloth gloves, but if you have not selected a preference for a fungi tunic, the loot window pops open when a mob you killed drops a fungi tunic.

    Ooh, good addition TimeBurner2

Add a Master Looter option to share among ALL players in the group regardless of their settings and autoroll for everyone if rolling is to take place. If you win something you should have the opportunity to decline or to permanently show you aren't interested. The default s/b one player = 1/6th of the loot. Not all and not even half.

I always see those who have mastered the unnecessary complexities of this system be set up to roll on everything that is desirable and conveniently assume those not set up to obtain a share have no interest in cantrips, blue diamonds, etc.

The default should be share fairly and not those who know get and those who were perfectly happy with the old system get not. Loot should not be such a big deal that people would short change others they group with - and they very much do.

It's awesome no doubt for boxers and for greed bags who have figured out how to use it. For others not so much.
