Assume the Norrathian calendar is flawed much like ours, and that to account for a lunar or solar 'drift' of time, it is necessary to have leap months or years etc. The monthly scheduled downtime is simply our 'intercalary' month much like the ancient Egyptians, for example, would have observed. A month consisting basically of 5 bonus days each year. Using astronomical data found within the game world I have found this 5 day period to be most suitable for Norrath: 1 Everquest day = 72 minutes IRL 5 EQ Days = 360 minutes IRL 360 minutes = 6 Hours 6 hours = you guessed it folks, the scheduled length of the announced downtime. Knowing this, there are a few ways we can go about maintaining full immersion. a) Simply enter a meditative state for 6 hours while roleplaying your character is observing the lunar festival in solemn contemplation. b) Partake in RL festivities roleplaying as your character that is celebrating the lunar festival c) Sleep the entire duration, this can essentially act as a 'time-jump' to fast-forward to when the servers are up Speaking of time-jumps, an alternate way to maintain full immersion is to simply fire up Everquest II. Create a toon modelled after your EQ 1 main with the same name and roleplay that your character just woke up from a 500 year coma. "Woah - what is this place?" you might say, as you struggle to recognize the land you once called home. Perhaps even engage in trade with these future Norrathians, realizing that your shiny green Kronos have not only retained their value but are able to fetch far more platinum pieces than in your previous life. You become a cross-game Krono trader - time and space has no meaning to you anymore as you roleplay that you have unlocked the knowledge of Al'kabor, able to travel freely between planes.
