How do I Log into a new server?

Discussion in 'Time Locked Progression Servers' started by Grandma, Jun 19, 2024.

My new log in screen only gives me the quick connect to last server option. I have clicked on and highlighted new servers. right clicked them, changed the size of the screen to see if other options weren't fitting in. I tried going into tools and changing everything back to default. would love any help you can offer please and thanks very much.

You click on the button that says play. Do not click anything next to quick connect, there 2 buttons.
If you select a new server then select quick play you choose what was already listed, so do not do that, do not click quick play if you changed the server.

I'm not sure if anyone was mentioning ADA stuff.
I don't have issue with login UI, but the text seems to be too small for people. Not sure if text too small is an ADA thing.

I'm not sure if there is another thing, as in older generation takes a lot longer to adapt to something than younger generation.

    Ex. Smartphones
older generation probably using flip phone just call and text people thats it.
smartphone has apps and all this fancy stuff,
"you can watch netflix on this?"
"how do i get netflix on this"

Not hard goto the app store download, swipe right goto the screen with the netflix app keep swiping until you see it.

    Simple stuff.

This is why I always say with EQ, keep in mind of newplayer.

EQplayer probably thinking everyone knows how to get maps in EQ.
Thats not a normal thing in MMOs.
Everyone knows this everyone knows how to do that.

    Yet,
Does this have netflix on this.
How I get netflix on this
    Where is netflix on this
How do I get back to that movie
How do I get back to netflix
I don't know what happened, I can't back to netflix

simple stuff yet some people just don't know.

I'm not sure if they coined a term for it yet, usually older generation just takes longer to learn.

It's ok too, too much technology changes.
    Say 1950s people.
gotta figure out how to use computer, gotta figure out how to use this camera camera changes again computer changes again changes changes changes. Phone changed a lot over time.

    Tech burnout maybe.

Again this goes with the concept be mindful of newplayers.
They don't know, they don't know, they don't know.
Need to make the game more friendly especially if newplayer has to go out of game, download some maps, put in folder, yada yada.
    Not a normal thing.

Honestly, I think the tech burnout is being someone who does not try many things, ex. if you just stick to one thing, like EQ is the only game you play for a very long time.
Then you get a taste of modern day stuff, like how modern games do things.
It could be more frustrating for the do one thing forever person and less frustrating for the seen it before, I played many many games, seen it, nothing new here person.
The person who buys the next iphone every year, less likely to get tech burnout than I only buy a phone if i need too, this flipphone does everything I need, I don't need to get a new one every year.

    What I find funny is,
    look at the persons name.

I did not even notice that until after I wrote everything. Thats funny.
I wrote all of this, because its a good example of what I been saying.

Keep newplayers in mind, I'm sure you are not new. But just like playing installing EQ, is similar to figuring out the login screen.

I'm sure a newplayer with good sense of technology can/will google and figure everything about EQ and maybe more like the boxing UI stuff.

But the less techy people probably not have a good experience, no maps, probably figure out how to get them a lot later or never.
They probably think its a game thing to not see anything and it is normal.

Techy people they'll download the boxing UI, the less techy people, I'm going alt tab!!!! Excited to be alt tabbing.

Thing is this needs to be addressed, its like raiders vs nonraiders.
Nonraiders are not getting enough love.
This game benefits techy people too much.

    Botters are what? Techy people.
Easymode boxers are what? Techy people

This game have a boxing UI? Nope, just google it. Something nontechy person is not likely to do.
Google the boxing UI and its easy setting up netflix.
Which for some people, setting up netflix is tough. Especially if its on smartphone. Then remember how to get to netflix thats another challenge.
Super tiny text, doing gestures like swiping right. clicking on apps understanding an app is. looking for the super tiny cogwheel settings icon and what not.

Under the quick connect to last server you should see "play Everquest"?

What you do is click the server you want (nothing happens but it "highlights it) and then click Play Everquest.

Quick connect to last server does just that. Only connects you to last server you played on.

I noticed on one of my PC that quick connect to last server was the last thing on bottom right of screen. I know the button below that should be play but didn't have time to investigate. I'm wondering if windows task bar is hiding it. Maybe this will help, I will look into it further when I get back to the game.

Also, might want to toggle window mode and full screen to see if play eq button shows up.

ok just for the other older generation like myself that played this game for the last 25+ years and helped keep it going and making it the great game you are still able to play today. I was toggling between full screen and window mode because I believed the button I needed was just below the only one I could see which is the quick connect. but the task bar at the bottom doesn't disappear completely on the log in screen. It does on the game playing screens. I had to slide the bottom taskbar to the side and then I was able to see the Play Everquest button. Thanks everyone

the server select does not work well on low resolutions such as 1360x768 or lower vertical resolutions. Someone on the discord Kiff had a solution to modify the UI files, but it seems difficult for a novice user.

Yeah, on the Player to Player support page is a link to a modified server select that works at potato laptop resolution. The issue is you can't run custom UI until you get into the game so the file has to be copied into the default ui folder which gets over written every time you open the launcher. So..

    1. Copy the file into the Everquest/uifiles/default/ folder and then bypass the launcher
https://articles.eqresource.com/bypasslaunchpad.php here for instructions to bypass launcher.

    or

    2.a) Open the launcher
    b) let it check all the files
    c) copy the file into Everquest/uifiles/default/
    d) hit Play

Niente (one of the devs) did ask me what resolution I was using when I was talking about how it was not useable so I'm hopeful that a patch in the near future will optimize it for us folk with low resolutions.

Depending on the size of your PC/monitor and what resolution you play on, the new server select screen is much too large.

On one of my smaller laptops I had to go full screen and could just barely hit the play button in order to log into a different server.
