How can we reliably sell high value items?

Not sure. I seem to remember and could be wrong on this but it goes back to how the bazaar was written. They could redo it but would require a full redesign. But who knows.

I will tell you there is a limit of how much pp you can have per char - 1 billion. Once you hit it you will crash anytime you access it. So there are limits.

If the client software cant count up higher than 2M, maybe what they could do is have you pay in 5 immediate payments of 2M each. or whatever

The issue isn't how high the software can count but the units the value is stored in.

    I never use autojoins.

    I make a couple hotkeys.
    1 is /join general,

    2 is /leave 1

3 is /joins of other channels.

    I click 1 and 2 until I'm in gen1, then click 3 for class / zones etc.

I also play on Zek where zone change channel spam is bad, so having perma set channels FTW

That isn't an excuse, it is the fact of how it was coded. They could have changed this before the 64 bit conversion as they had already moved other variables such as NPC health to 64 bit in order to accommodate high health raid mobs.

The issue with the conversion is the amount of work/risk that is involved with doing it and the amount of return from the work. It seems that as of now they have determined that the return on investment isn't worth the work they would have to put off to do it.

And to be honest when they made the bazaar was it really expected that they would hit the pricing limit on items and it would be an issue?

Time and money. That is the excuse.
32-bit code not only limits the price in copper, but it limits addressable memory limit, which EQ was bumpung into for years. And as a consequence it forced devs to minimize data sizes. And now, when the code has been switched to 64-bit (switched to, not thoroughly rewritten yet) DPG needs to rework multitude of data items, modify, verify and test countless marshalling calls, procedural calls in all the routines, check and re-check all the limit-checks of data values, address limit checks, explicit type conversions, catch and rewrite all the hacks utilized to reduce memory size, re-layout multiple databases both virtual and persistent, rewrite and retest all the communication modules for new data sizes and so on and again and all over.
And all that needs to be done both on client and server sides.
EQ was developed thorughout all these years and multiple devs used all the tricks and hacks imaginable to squeeze ten pounds of code and data into 5 pound bag. And now they need to unwrap and untangle that all. And enabling bazaar traders make millions easier that it it today is not a top priority I imagine.
If you have spare time and money you can donate it to DPG so hey can hire more devs to accelerate the true 64-bit code conversion. Until then - just /ooc your items or spam general channel.

All their lies, inability and slouchiness does get revealed now. Not a good mixture, and the lack in honest communication, the silence, does just make it worse. Welcome to the apocalypse (the absence of hiding) Daybreak ! :D

The company does have more than enough money already and only do lack devs because so many of them got kicked and alienated in the last few years. Champagne and caviar for the investors has a higher priority.

As far as I remember they have always said the amount of work involved in the change versus the results of the change hasn't made it move high enough on the priority list versus other things they want to do. They are not saying it can't be done just that it hasn't made it up high enough on the priority list because of the amount of things it would impact versus what it gives them in return.

The reason given is that all the vendors are coded already and there would be a huge amount of work changing them all, and the gain wouldnt be enough to justify it because some other job would have to be set aside.

Plus (unsaid) such a large change in plat coding could have errors that risk exploits.

Would it be worthwhile just to make a new tier of coin? Valued at 1,000 platinum pieces?

    (Disclaimer: I know nothing.)
  12. Fenthen Well, that's that...

Can we get rid of the markup on the Nobles that are used for Marcia, and make them a valid currency for the bazaar? Or kronos?

I thought that's why Nobles were created, anyhow. They were supposed to substitute for 100k plat, but then were taxed 10% and no one used them.

Just for posterity: Not only did Microsoft advertise (not hide) the fact that Windows XP supports 4GB
of memory without any reg hacks, but even Windows NT - which is the parent of XP - supports 4GB of memory at least as far back as NT 4.0 (1996). Before that, it wasn't an issue because nobody could afford 4GB of memory (comps in the early 90's were often sold with 4MB or less of RAM)...
  14. NameAlreadyInUse #CactusGate

There are multiple solutions that could work, and that is certainly one of them. But as others have pointed out, the real issue has always been that it's just not important to support trading on live servers.
  15. Riou EQResource

No, because money is stored in Copper

There were many suggestions including diamonds and nobles (alternative currencies), diamond coins (new tier), revamped coin exchange ratios, making silver to the new platinum, a complete revamp, ... so there seem to be solutions and it is not an unsolvable problem.

Nobles could been it but they kinda dropped the ball on that one since you cant sell back for full price. What they need is a new baz were you dont need to be online has alot of storage space and gets rid of the pp limit. They could make it a expansion selling point kinda like they had dragon hoard and TS Depot.

    Auction house
  19. Waring_McMarrin Augur

Making a new higher value currency is not a solution as prices are stored in copper so it will have the same issue and the price cap will be the same in the end.

Auction House would probably lose them too much money to ever implement, just count up all the traders on each server and that's the potential loss
