Heroic, Melee DPS Advice, Monk or Ranger?

    Keeping it real simple, no pulling, no tanking, no nothing other than pure melee dps.

    1. Monk is about same as Rogue, and both are quite a bit more dps than Ranger.
    2. Stay away from zerk unless you have bl/shm/brd all in group.


    Are these two statements correct?
    How much greater is monk/rogue than ranger? A little bit, or quite a bit?

    What classes are getting love soon (probably) other than Zerkers and Warriors?

    From my experience, monk/rogue is significantly higher dps than a ranger. Since you are just going by pure melee dps.
    I don't know if you need to stay away from a zerker unless you have those other supports in group, they do pretty decent without them, but in order to maximize dps even rogue and monk benefit from support classes.

    Ranger can be on part with a much higher AA requirement. A really good ranger will out dps a mediocre rogue or monk.

    The key being really good compared to mediocre. All things the same dps will be lower on the ranger, but they have a lot more other useful utilities to offset that. However, since this was a purely dps question it stands that monk/rogue/zerker all provide more dps output.

    They really don't. Zerkers function the same as Rangers and other classes in that they are dependent on short, high DPS burst. If you burn for 280k on a zerker over 40s and fall to 70-85k sustained it doesn't really matter if the Monk is at the 100k sustained and burns for 225k for 40s as long as the fight is only 60-90s.

    Rangers on the other hand have the capability to peak at higher then either of those but the decline is also steeper without certain circumstances.

    The reality is in a game that is this old and with the amount of misinformation that goes around taken as law, the true potential of any single class is only ever reached rarely. That's why you will see no patch changes but say you lose 10 members...gain 10 new ones on your raid, the top 15-20 will shift dramatically. Melee DPS as a whole is not even based on the person playing that DPS character if they do what they can do properly, it's the groups synergy as a whole and the willingness of certain other classes to assist you with TGB's etc.

    The group that syncs up, topples everyone.

    On the Berserker. They dont fall to 70-85K sustained, they fall off a cliff.

    200-250K in 40 sec, then its 150-200K in 20 sec, after that its 60-75K for 1 min and then its off to 30-40K.

    Add to that, that the normal sustained dps on trash is horrible.

    Just to put things in perspective.

    Ranger burns are 3 minutes, or 5, depending on which you're using.
