Fixed Full Screen / Screen Resolution Issues

Resolution still messed up. I normally play in full screen at native screen resolution of 3840 x 2160. In the windowed mode, some of the boxes, bags, info, spell icons are so small the game is unplayable. The inventory/character windowis HUGE, as is the options bar on the top - as if the game is playing in 4k but the other things are in 640x480. Full screen crashes to desktop. I tried all the tips and tricks here in the bug threads to no avail. Tried to change the in-game resolution, but it does not work...stays the same. And the little window that usually pops up to say "do you want to keep this resolution" just flashes off.

Anybody else having this mixed resolution problem?

I posted yesterday, I think somewhere in this thread, step-by-step exactly what I was seeing as I logged in and how I set them and relogged back in. Things aren't saving it's like the client says nope you aren't allowed to make changes even though it isn't in read-only status.

So here's what I did that seems to have fixed everything but getting straight into FS.

I edited the client (and saved it) to match what I wanted in game. Worked for one login and that's it. The client doesn't retain information or overrides with the patcher (not bypassing the patcher fyi).

It "appears" we have lost whatever magic behind the scenes was there to get us back to using FS. It also appears that the client now doesn't recognize changes to video modes ... but it does recognize some changes like font colors, etc. I did test that.

/bounces the information back to the devs

Here is my Fix for my NVIDIA/Geoforce gpu computer. This method will allow me to fullscreen without the error/crash:
    1) If I log in windowed mode, I HAVE to be in low resolution before going to fullscreen. (My AMD machines are able to fullscreen from higher resolutions) So, with my NVIDIA machine, if I log in windowed and am in a higher res, I have to first take the res down to the lowest. When in the low resolution, then I hit ALT-Enter to go fullscreen. Now I'm in Fullscreen in a LOW resolution. No error/crash
    2) Next, I open display: Options->Display->Video modes. If I don't see the resolution I want, I then hit ALT-TAB. Then I recheck the Options ->Display->Video Modes. At this point, the resolution list shows all the options. I have no idea why ALT-TAB works like this, but it does.
    3) However, because I ALT-TAB'ed, my mouse is now gone wonky and the actual cursor is pointing above and left of where it registers on the game screen. So I have to slowly move the mouse around, above and left of the resolution that I'm trying to select. I am able to watch and see what is being highlighted by the mouse cursor. Select the correct resolution, then the "accept" button.
    4) Now I'm in fullscreen and the correct resolution, I hit "yes" on the confirmation window, and fix any chat/game windows out of place.
    5) Don't log out

    TLDR: NVIDIA Computers
    1) Go to: Options - Display - Video Modes - select 640x480 or the lowest resolution
    2) Hit ALT-Enter
    3) Hit ALT-TAB
    4) Go to: Options - Display - Video Modes - select your preferred resolution (mouse pointer is wonky)
    5) Hit 'YES' on confirmation
    6) Don't log out

Yeah everything is fine once you get it set up .... as long as you don't log out ... logging out you start all over again.

    This is painful. REALLY painful.

I play on several servers across Live and TLP. Boxing 9 on Live and about the same, 50 characters. All broken.

    'Bandwidth is BIG sad.

I created a batch file to copy a master template to EverQuest folder for each character.

    dir c:\EverQuest\ui*drinal* /B >> c:\EQ\ui_fix.bat
Edited ui_fix.bat to copy the appropriate template and full paths as seen below
Ran batch file and looks ok so far.

    For example
    copy C:\EQ\UI\EQ_Config_Files\UI_Stunz_drinal_PAL.ini c:\Everquest\UI_Fyrus_drinal_MAG.ini

    copy C:\EQ\UI\EQ_Config_Files\UI_Serex_drinal_WAR.ini c:\Everquest\UI_Gorimak_drinal_BER.ini
serex is a warrior (pure melee) is used for rogue/monk/warrior/berserker.
stunz is a paladin and used for all other casters making sure pet window is in correct location.

Color me impressed, full screen options got even worse after the hotfix xD
Can get the window to act like it is in 2560x1440, but soon as ya try to alt+enter or go to full screen. I get only these resolution options.

I used to play 4 toons boxed with different sized window on a big screen with one installation of everquest. So loading up the game brings me 4 even sized windows, what was fine untill the last overnight fix. i was able to just drag the windows in the sized an position i wanted. it autoadjusted everything where i had placed it before..

now every time i try this, waht i did for ages, i get a big black bar on the side i klickj to adjust the window size and the resolution tries to autoadjust in something unplayable. mouse and button that i want press are not in same position anymore.

/copylayout the old version does not work cause the ui of the used char is not even in list ...

its a pain realy. looks like there got something pushed out that wasnt testet at all. Fix one thing break another. the game i not playable anymore like it used to be in this state.

i found a workaround to the auto solution setting. replacing teh window autoresets the solution to a playble version

managed to get it working on laptop, logged out and when I logged back in later I was back to square 1 with a 600X800 resolution at server select.

it is not saving resolutions still

Just another painful step to fix this. If you select 800x600 then all of the resolutions show up, Then of course you need to fix your windows and you are ready to roll until you log out :(
  14. Scila Augur

It's almost like whatever happened in increasing the server select went as planned. Then something happened from there and the settings to move forward wiped out the previous goodness that was logging into fs mode. Meaning it now "thinks" the settings that were fs are now windowed and the settings for windowed are now being applied to fs if that makes sense. In the meantime, the client somewhere is saying "nope don't know what you are telling me this is what you are supposed to do" and not saving anything we reset it to do.

I did change the chat channel colors and those retained and stayed so the client does allow setting changes for some things. Logically, it should also allow for other setting changes the user makes for video settings to be retained but it's rejecting them. It looks like the initial startup of the client before you hit Play loads 800/600. Changing it to something similar gets you partway but not all the options are available including what I use.

My client has all the settings for what I use - fs on - video settings correct - windowed width and height match video settings. Logging in it is ignoring everything in my client and doing everything completely different. It is almost like it is using a backend client for the video settings instead of what is on my computers.

This is exactly my issue on just one character. Her layout isn't even on the list, and it is not saving it. I tried copying a layout from another server and it doesn't save it when I log no matter what I try.

This works while full screen on eq you can change display resolution on your actual computer to fix it in eq
  17. Philonius New Member

Unfortunately this did not resolve the issue. Starting from launcher - game starts in windowed mode and immediate goes 'not responding. Same story when launching eqgame.exe directly - the login window is responsive, but the game immediately freezes when attempting to log in.
  18. Lamberduim Elder

Mine does the same thing, and fullscreenmode already =0. I was in game, got disconnected and cant login.

Is that character's layout in your EQ directory? Do a search for that character's name in the directory...does the UI for that toon come up?
  20. Philonius New Member

Given that a full game reinstall didn't solve the problem - does EQ leave some files or modifications behind in windows system files?
