Frogs Monks Bugged

I know for a short time when Trolls had home issues they had command to alter home point to CR or Grobb etc
    might be one option

I don't care about the Origin point, but losing the home city lore saddens me. For a new EQ player the home city first impression is huge. I still remember my first day in EQ, running around Felwithe, talking to the NPCs, bravely stepping into Faydark and then not so bravely running to the city guards for protection against a forest drake that turned out to be tougher than it looked. :D I would totally not want to start as an orphan in a city far away where all NPCs are of another race and talk only about their lore and not yours.

I wonder if the lowbie quests for froglok monks and wood elf treelords can be added later, perhaps?
  3. Putrify Elder

Yes, that would be one option for this situation. I understand at one point the book was there, and it was moved (I wasn't playing during that time, though).

I still like the /setorigin option for lore purposes.

Whatever the case, I'll be taking my wood elf beastlord directly to Kelethin, and binding there, and doing the lowbie levels there. Yes--it'll be slower than CR. For me, it's about the journey more than the destination, and I look forward to getting crushbone belts and running (not porting to PoK...) to Kaladim to hand 'm in, etc. And, I hope I see some other lowbie wood elf beasties doing the same. =)
  4. Yinla Ye Ol' Dragon

There is no content for them specifically in CR either.

I'd rather have had the choice to make a frog in the frog hometown and then choose to go and level in CR or Freeport or anywhere else for that matter. But you took that choice away and yet you messed around with Feerrott, if players cannot find there own away from one zone to the next heaven help them.

If I can't have a frog monk, I'll have a frog something else!
  5. Quatr Augur

The TSS POK book was originally in the middle of Blightfire Moors, so it was a longer (and more dangerous) run for low level characters. I don't recall a POK book in Crescent Reach.
  6. Tharrg Augur

Yeah the Southern Moorwalker would roam the area of the POK book... It made many a corpse in the area. You would also get people pulling the plant things over as well training the stone.. which in turn would kill all the AFK people and others coming and going. Was quite the death trap.
  7. Fanra https://everquest.fanra.info

I'd like them to make it so you can /setorigin once a week (or once a month). That way you can change it anytime you realize you might have made a mistake without having to annoy SOE or petition.\

Heck, add a repeatable quest in game to change it. How about that for an idea?

I wish they would put it back or put another one there, I always run all the way there and then have to run to where it is now. :( Old habits die hard
  9. Putrify Elder

Love that idea. A quest to let you do a /setorigin.

Could be something simple like delivering a petition to someone in the city you want to be your origin. A bit more coding, and you need to gather signatures from certain people in the city for the petition first, and of course they want something from you, before they'll sign the petition. A ton of different possibilities.

Origin Binder... sitting beside the soulbinder.. One binds the soul.. one binds your origin... Simple say command.. Bind My origin...
  11. Putrify Elder

Or, just give the Soul Binder that ability. "Bind my Origin" instead of "Bind my soul"
  12. Gythlen Augur

Yes, many of your posts are like this. If you consider my posts as whinging, I'd be happy to have a conversation with you about them because SoE, IMO, is kinda taking the easy button route to this.

This is what I mean. Crescent Reach is all about drakkin. So, if you are not a Drakkin, where do you go to learn about your race? The NPCs there sure aren't going to point you in the right direction .. they don't care. (I am not speaking about the gold member vs F2P/Silver being forced to start only in Crescent Reach).

Yes, I guess I am one of those people who love lore in games, knowing where my character comes from etc. Laugh if you want, EQ has been made so people can go in, speed through, and hit top with very little time to look around.

There is quite the number of content for players in GFay. The ones in Rathe have been broken for a long time.

So throwing them into CR, while I can see your side, keeps new players from actually looking around at other zones. At least to me, in finding out where they lore-wise come from.

But reading 2 new class/race combos, with so much time they had, they could have fixed the quests in the Mountains of Rathe. They could have set up a Beastlord GM in Kelethin. Really disappointing.

I really hope they change it that frogs can have Rathe Mountains as their home city in future. The guildmaster is there and talks about stuff, shame you cannot create one there and then play where you like. :( Its times like this that I wish CR had never been built, but then back in the day I loved somewhere new to level up, but I guess now with the level 85 chars and auto grant we will never see a new expansion which covers all levels. :(

I live in hope that they will change their minds and let monks be made in Rathe Mountains, until then I have comfort in my Frog wizzy.

I posted in two different threads about this on the test server.

This effects both Woodelf Beastlords and Frog Monks. They only get Crescent Reach as a home city.

No dev posted any explanation or reason behind this on either thread. I was just hoping that it would be changed at some point. We now have a dev saying something; and it's... we didn't have time to finish, so we gave you something instead of nothing; and I understand that reason.

It's not a game breaker; but I do like the lore of the original home cities. And with Crescent Reach being the only home city I have makes me less likely to play these new race/class combos than I was before. This is just a personal preference.

Having origin set to Crescent Reach is also a major pain. Monks nor Beastlords have a gate spell or gate AA. So origin will be used a lot. That run from Crescent Reach to Blighfire Moore is not hard, but does take time. It's also the main reason I made a Human Monk in Freeport; it's quicker to run to the PoK book from this origin spot than the one from Crescent Reach.

It's nice that the devs like Crescent Reach, but many players don't, & prefer having their own hometown. This is a choice that should be up to the player.

I don't understand why it couldn't be an option. I know the developers don't have many resources to make newbie armor and other newbie quests for those classes, but I don't see the harm in letting froglok monks start in Camp Refugee, and just have a popup when you select it at character screen that says there are opportunities for your race and class option to obtain loot earlier in Crescent Reach than in Gukta. Are you Sure? Y/N.

Its not a big deal if that option isn't added, but it would be a nice little addition down the road if at ever possible.
  17. Gythlen Augur

I do hope they look into adding a bit more to the froglok monk, yes. I would go on and state how a feel about how X could have been done in Y time period, but I do not know how their team is split up.

I know to some people, these things sound whiney and nictpickey. But this game, when I started, was all about choices. Lately, it's all about what SoE thinks is best. Even through what Elidroth posted. SoE took it upon themselves to decide what they thought the playerbase (and in this case all of the playerbase) wanted. And that is not the case.

Forums are a small fraction of who plays, but go in game, and you will hear more opinions on the matter. People love choice. No matter in what area, be it games, food, cars, hobbies ... Giving us something that looks like we have a choice, yet take it away at the last second by making our minds up for us, just isn't right.

Elidroth then stated there was no time to add newbie armor/quests to the areas. I did a bit of digging, and found where the first round of the voting started. This was back in December of 2013. From then to now, was not even 3 months.

So .. in that time, you had zero inclination to make anything new? No ideas around the table to give them newbie quests for armor? Set up where they start? Make an NPC or two? No offense, that is not 'not having time', that is just making the decision not to do it.

I made a HC Wood Elf Beastlord. There is nothing special or new to the class outside the warder. Forgive me if I am wrong (because I know nothing about animation) but isn't the code there for what the class does? Would one not just code the woodelf beastlord to do what others do? Or skin over the coded model used for that class? And the treat warder the same? I've seen those in the game, what more would need to be done?

Both areas (Mountains of Rathe, and Kelethin) are all set up to have these classes there. Kelethin and Greater Faydark has lots to do! Please do not tell me it does not, I have done quests in there as have many other people. Mountains of Rathe has been broken for a long time. A long ... time. I have bug reported the quests as have others, but it is more that SOE does not want to fix it period.

Crescent Reach has become the be all end all answer to everything. New stuff? Eh shove it in CR. There is more to the game than there. Please understand not everyone wants to be shoved in a city that has nothing to do with them, lorewise or major questwise. Being handheld through everything, hitting level 50 in 3 days (as my paladin did there) is just ... I don't know.

The trip is being thrown to the wayside in favor of the destination. Everything is lost inbetween.

But my rant has gone on long enough. If you are still reading this, yes. I hope froglok monks and wood elf beastlords eventually get a GM in their true, respective starting cities, and that those cities can be chosen for those who chose to go and start there.

Pity that these new race/class combo's start in Crescent Reach and do not have any newbie quests, I was expecting some more incentive to roll these new combo's. Even though I have nice memories(and feelings) about The Serpents Spine as an expansion, I always thought Crescent Reach the worst Everquest "city" in the game. The entire area consists of nothing but utility-spaces, so it has zero credability as a place where Drakkin actually live. Unless they are all crammed in the one Inn, off course. :)

You do not need much to create make-belief in this aspect: you do not need to have a thousand houses to create the illusion of a City in a game. But CR has none of this and is purely a Convenience centre, as this latest move of having Wood-Elf Beastlords and Froglok Monks start there proves once more.

Come on, devs, you play this game too!
  19. Ruven_BB Augur

I do dailies most days and for none gating classes, its a pain in the when orgin isn't close to a book. All things equal, adding additional zoning and run across a zone, becomes material when others are waiting on you to show up.

Elidroth, with all due respect. A better response would have been "we felt it was better to start NEW players on the Hero's Journey." that makes more sense for the NEW players. A portion of the Everquest player base is not new, i'm sure most of us have multiple accounts of multiple leveled characters that have gotten to choose where they begin their journey. I do not agree with the Forced Cresent Reach home city idea for Silver and F2P or Bronze accounts and I dislike the idea of it being forced onto these new Combos. Everytime you make a level a little pop up box states "Hey you reached this level, you may find the enemies in (Insert Zone name here) more of a challenge!". As for my thoughts on Cresent Reach, its a well thought-out city, a tutorial on to itself. I dislike the port in point being in bumfuk nowhere, i dislike all of that open space not being used while the dragons are kept in little huts up trees.

The answers aren't hard at all.
    For Wood elves:
Their's empty buildings in Kelethin can make one a Beastlord Hall, i can even give ya a in game /loc: +1069.42, +576.03, +119.05 (location is from the center of the room). Its decent size 2 rooms, plenty of room for my Wood Elf beastlord brothers and their wooded friends. Faydark Champions, Champions of Faydark, Soldiers of Tunare and Songweaver Halls have multiple "GM's" and Vendors. By the way, Why is their a Druid Circle but no Druid port to Greater Fay?
    For the Frogloks:
Class GM's are set up in Tents. Monks have always been about minimalist ideas anyway.
