I'm not the one who said I never played past 2000 and want it to be as authentic as possible, ignoring the fact that the TLP you're on and claiming it's the best experience for that authenticity, is so far removed from what it is you say you enjoy and look for in the game

They'd have to be like half player level. Probably better to just relax trubox.
It'd be cool if the server flag for "Sleeper awake=yes" would reset, say a week after the rampage? Then you can add a timer to prevent awakening for another week. Maybe an NPC at zone-in that shouts a few different lines of vague text about how close we are to The End so folks have a sense of where we are in the cycle.

I think it is great that you are aware of another group that wants to immediately awaken the Sleeper. That should motivate you and your guild to be your best and play your best on Day 1 of Velious so that you can beat them to the race to see the Sleeper. There is an opportunity to see the Sleeper, you and your guild have to decide just how important it is to see it. Your actions will answer that question.

The awakening of the Sleeper is a one time per server event. It is a race to see who can awaken it first. I never saw the Sleeper in era, and I turned out fine. So has thousands of other players before me. So will anyone on Tormax who does not witness the Sleeper.

My two cents, (which may be valued at more or less than two cents at the time of reading due to inflation and other economic factors) is that this is a raid encounter like any other and should be instanced like EVERY other raid encounter in game. Having said that, I don't anticipate daybreak spending the money to have developers crack this thing open and making an instance for the event because of the wishes of some players on a low-population TLP requested it.

Not to mention that it sets a bad precedence to allow a group of players to come together and dictate the direction of the game. I mean, have you read the forums? We'd be playing a watered-down version of WoW if half of these people got their way!

I feel that there are valid points both for and against the proposed solutions. While I feel that an instanced version of the encounter would be the best route, I will also admit that it is an unrealistic expectation that I do not see gaining any traction.

Clearly, the only logical path moving forward is to make Sleeper's Tomb PvP and let the chips fall where they may!

As for the Mercenaries, I think that is a positive thing. I have never met a single person that would WILLINGLY choose to have a mercenary in their group over a real person. At best they serve as a temporary substitute so that a group doesn't have to call it quits because you can't find a healer or a tank. As a person that plays at non-peak times of the day it can be difficult to find a group and nearly impossible to do content at my level because I cannot get it done solo.

I find mercenaries to be no more harmful to the intended group dynamic than allowing truebox on a server. The only difference is that anyone can hire a mercenary, but not everyone has a second or third PC laying around to have a healer or tank on stand-by at all times. I would also point out that 90% of people won't drop their box for a live player that is LFG. You won't see that with mercenaries. Everybody wants to replace a mercenary ASAP. The only people that don't are the ones that only want to play by themselves anyway. If anything, it allows smaller groups of 1-3 players to have a somewhat functional group that would otherwise spend most of their days LFG.

I don't play WoW either, but I'm curious what specifically you are referring to that EQ does so much better than WoW.

This has been requested for however many years ever since TLP AoC was a thing. So not just a low-pop TLP.

While I like the idea of keeping greifers from awakening the sleeper, mercenaries would be insanely op even for tlp. Like duoing raid mob kinda op.

Guessing a merc can solo raid content in SoV and pretty sure it can in the first two expansions.
  11. Vumad Cape Wearer

What if on TLPs, mercs are implemented, but stop working 10-15 levels below the level cap. So on velious where the level cap is 60, you can use a merc to 45 or 50, but once you hit that level, you can no longer summon a merc. Alternatives would be that mercs don't work in the current and 1-2 preceding expansions or they autosuspend in zones with more than 3 people in them.

I don't play on TLP but I can appreciate the issue of catchup mechanics and the impacts of mercs. There is definitely a potential way to implement mercs early to help people get caught up to the bulk of the players but prevent mercs from taking the place of players in groups.

I tried thornblade and it was so wonderful playing the original game with people again but I quickly fell behind and couldn't get groups.

Any time I read about Mercs on TLPs, I just read it as nerfs to Mercs on Live.
  13. fransisco Augur

This is it. Anything done to change tlp ALWAYS results in nerfs to live.

I really hope this post doesn't become prophetic.

Not always. TLPS have buffs on raid mobs to make them more difficult on TLPs that we do not have on live. Pets also have a buff on them to reduce their abilities on live.

The best way to reduce mercs being overpowered on TLPs would be to also add a buff to them. Preferably only on Tormax, so it doesn't mess up TLPs in later eras who have unlocked mercs.

That said if they can unlock mercs early on Tormax, why can't they unlock them early on other TLPs?

They are technically on live though. Just live is beyond the point where they are dropped off of previous raids.

You missunderstand. Waking the sleeper doesn't matter. Its farming all the items that are only available while the sleeper is not awake. People wake the sleeper to greif everyone, because v2 of the zone is different with a different loot table. Waking the sleeper takes many things away from everyone on the server.

    @7rinost

Take a look at my latest suggestion and upvote / like it ! It can be used for sidekicking, and mercs would be allowed. Maybe not that early on TLP as you want. Just like the Advanced Loot Window it could be added to TLP but that would be a political decision. The whole TLP idea is flawed as it is a poor simulation of the past, and does only work as long as the TLP players underly the illusion that it can bring back the past.

Regarding the sleeper, this is a political problem. Darkpaw could add a mechanism to prevent that it can be awakened. Could unlock when PoP does get unlocked, I won't go earlier. The whole sleeper awakening process is more or less an exploit that never was intented that early by design. Time to fix that slackness !

It will be interesting to see if Sleeper gets awoken on Teek, as the loot from both versions are available with the random loot for the whole life of the server, so there is no reason to wake it.

Waking the sleeper gives a different set of items, for some those items are more value than the original loot. It was woken on Vaniki to get the weapons not to grief everyone, the guild who woke it did give us a few days warning before it was awoken to give us a chance to see sleeper if we wanted.
  20. Cicelee Augur

O no. I fully understand the ramifications of awakening the Sleeper. And considering the OP is part of the *only* raid guild on Tormax, I am 99.9999% certain that s/he is also aware.

To me, this isn't about "experiencing the joys and wonders of a once per server event where we can take a screenshot" as it is moreso a "Hey I don't think it is fair that 18-36 players are going to roll up toons 3 weeks before Velious hits and awaken the Sleeper within a couple days so we cannot farm warder loot for months and our members get sweet loot". There is a strong entitlement coming from the only raid guild on the server, who probably was not challenged at all early on and they thought they would leisurely get to experience stuff they want. But now an upstart wants to also experience it for the first/second/twelfth time and people who thought they had it "in the bag" are suddenly faced with a situation that is not advantageous to them.

That is why I said I thought it was great that they know about this. If they really want "the experience" they can now plan and be proactive and hopefully beat the 18-36 "non Tormax" players to the punch.
