Early EQ: Blackburrow, Fippy Darkpaw, CB, and PC are where some of my best early memories come from. I remember spending what seemed like an eternity in the newbie yard and surrounding zones just having fun and being amazed by how complex this game was for its time.

Modern EQ: Doing POW with my guildmates. We were seriously undermanned but we still managed to make it work for a lot of the bosses due to some superior players. Raiding with AH and Anthem as a guest which gave me a very brief but rather enjoyable experience in the raid scene. Finally getting my first max level character followed by a small army of maxed level characters which has allowed me to explore and experience so much of this game I never got to. I certainly hope for many more years and great experiences in this amazing virtual world.

I think my best memory was from when Kunark came along and it was so much harder than classic so it became very serious to do dungeons like Sebilis when you were still wearing group gear from classic. Some of the battles I had in there were amazing because my class was amazing, and I got into a group that had great people and we pushed it to see how much we could do. Nearly wiping is fun when you can turn it around at the last second.

My other favorite memories are of classic at release in 1999. I remember exploring in G Fay and not knowing much about anything. I saw a beautiful blonde Elf lady chilling on a hill and I walked up to her and asked, "Are you a real person?" :) It took me a while to figure out what was a mob, what was an NPC, and what was a player.

I also made some friends and went on an adventure for a Mino Axe and we did some exploring of various other zones that was terrifying and funny. I also remember when duel messages were broadcast on the entire server and after a particularly bad few days of server crashing and whatnot, there were a lot of: Commonsense has defeated Verantsupport in a duel to the death!

Also my other favorite memory was playing on one of the PVP servers. I think it was a FFA server and I had some great moments on there. I didn't play it for that long because I was already burned out with the game but it was really fun.

Running from Rivervale to East Commons at night as a wee halfling.........Alwasy scared me to death and usually how it ended with the zone line in sight.

during beta someone playing a bard had tree stuck a group of sand giants in oasis and that caused them to release summoning from mobs giving it to Cazel to stop that sort of easy experiencing and money gain

the first time fear didnt work on my necro while trying to quad fear kite with my necro fun time nerfs

giving away over 100 druid 1.0s when you could give loot to mobs and watching level 1 druids and toons in misty freak out over it

Meeting Steelanvil the Warrior on the Tribunal back in late '99/'00. Thought he looked super badass with the rusty two handed sword fighting zombies, snakes and spiders in the desert portion of EC (East Commonlands). I still consider that graphic one of my favorite 2HS - would love to be able to aug a contemporary weapon in that old school look as a tribute to my friend.

May all the old RIP. You are all gone and nothing but memories. So many connections lost. What is it they say? Better to have love and lost then forget to butter the toast?

Favorite - first day I played. Friends had been playing a week and told me about EQ. I made a dwarf warrior. All my friends were human in Freeport. Died multiple times trying to get to the boat to cross the ocean. Finally a stranger took pity on me, gave me a full set of bronze armor, 10 plat, and escorted me to Freeport. Waiting on the boat and finally getting across took almost an hour but that guy stayed with me the whole time sending me tells on how to play the game. I have never forgotten that and this was back in 2000/2001.

2nd favorite - when I could finally afford the weapon I always wanted, sitting at E1 all weekend until I was able to negotiate buying one. I felt so powerful with my very own Wurmslayer!

Worst - made my first wizard, so excited because I always played one in D&D. First time I had to med up out in the field looking at that stupid spell book that took up the whole screen while listening to the battle going on all around me. Deleted him the next day and went back to my warrior.

Funniest - looking at the chat box fill up with 3 guilds telling each other off as they were blocking each other trying to do a raid. This was long before instancing.

The blackburrow gnoll trains. Those were quite a site as a noob, seing someone train 15 gnolls to the zone...and everything along the way dying in it's wake.

My favorite memory was getting the last piece to my 1.0 when I transferred to Lanys with no gear.

I was out on a date with my now wife and I got a call on my cell from a real-life friend and guildmate. A guild had cleared Plane of Fear and left the Iksar Child up. I told him I was on a date and I would just have to pass but thanks for the heads up. I got another call an hour later that the Child was still up but the zone was repopping. I thanked him again and told him to stop calling, no more EQ calls until further notice.

I logged in after my date several hours later just to thank him again for looking out for me. This crazy druid was still in Fear kiting the whole zone hours later waiting for me to show back up. Mind you this was pre-guild lobby summons so he was going to be paying a guild to get him out if he screwed this up.

I ran as fast as I could since this druid was normally my transportation and zoned into Fear. There were no maps at the time so I had to find a safe spot, wait for him to run by with what had to be 60+ mobs and I followed his train back to the Iksar Child. Got the kill (its a L1 mob) and gated. He evacced and I got my 1.0 the next night.

Times of changed but I loved how social this game was back then.

...speed camping out once Cazic went on a sniping spree in early Fear.

That is a true bro. He's hardcore.

You, on the other hand, are not hardcore. If you were hardcore, you would have excused yourself during the date to use the bathroom, snuck out the bathroom window, ran home to log into eq, get your epic piece, then run back and resume your date.

The feeling of massive accomplishment when I completed my Trushot Longbow quest!

It was raining as I stepped from the Kaladim entrance. I looked to my left and right at the guards standing their posts, noting their unflinching stance as the rain pelted their faces. It made a tinkling sound as each droplet struck the shiny, plate armor. Being a very young Dwarven Warrior, my instinct told me to observe carefully and stay within range of these mighty swordsmen. But in my heart, I wanted to venture out and begin practicing with my simple, rusty blade. I let out a youthful howl that betrayed my nervous mind and inexperience, and ran toward my first snake kill as fast as my stubby legs would carry me.

This was literally my first foray into the world of EverQuest. I still remember killing that snake and turning towards the cave, then slowly looking up in AWE at the massive Dwarven statue above the entrance. I was hooked...
