Hobby Horse is the slowest mount. :p

I just acquired the Glowing Black Drum http://everquest.allakhazam.com/db/item.html?item=26826 from the Casino on my Ranger. Clicking on it results in a spell that states it's a "very fast" mount, and whereas before the Bracelet of the Severed Hand http://everquest.allakhazam.com/db/item.html?item=106370 or Tahka's Horse Saddle http://everquest.allakhazam.com/db/item.html?item=104135 would cast a spell that said it was a "fast" mount they both now result in a spell that says it's a "very fast" mount.

I am skeptical as to whether the "flag" for fast speed mounts is working properly.

for example, I have a mount that is one of those hybrid run2/Fast mounts. It should cast the "Fast" version of the mount when I use it because I have a seru horse in my inventory.

but when I put a /blockspell for the "run2" version of the mount, I cannot right click the mount.

if I instead do a /blockspell for the "fast" version of the mount (getting the spell ID number from lucy). I can right click the item and summon a mount still. this leads me to believe I am actually getting the "run2" version and not the "fast" version.

Other people have noted the same concerns SpamFactory. Seems to be a bug with flagging for some people.

Caell - Severed Hand shows Summon Horse: SumMRHm0Run2, while Glowing Black shows Summon Horse: SumLizardBlkFast, which is faster than a Run2 mount.

I think it is bugged. I have White Ornate Chain Bridle (emp horse), and it's for sure faster than any LoN or collector's edition mounts I have.
  7. Cakvala Augur

I agree, i spent 30 min or in in the open area for housing with multiple mounts and they all had different speeds.
  8. Talif Augur

Must be a recent change then. Everything was working fine a month or so ago when I checked.
  9. Caell Augur

Yther Ore, while that may be the spells that are on those mounts read the paragraph at the bottom of this link. Red highlighting is mine. http://everquest.allakhazam.com/wiki/EQ:Run_Speed

Which clearly explains what I was seeing. There is a script that runs when a mount is cast which looks for your fastest mount and uses that speed for the spell that is cast. Thus old slower mounts take on the speed of the fastest mount you possess. Now there may be some mounts that don't use the script or it doesn't function on, but it works on the four slower mounts I've tested on: Desert Kangon Saddle, Verdant Hedgerow Leaf, Tahka's Horse Saddle, and Bracelet of the Severed Hand, including the Glowing Black Drum. My testing shows all mounts are the same speed, all say "very fast" in the spell information on the char, and all are faster on this char than they are on other chars that don't have a 5 speed mount in their possession (i/e my other chars do not have: GBD, Ornate Chain(emp/seru), AA mount, Ghostrider, or Roboboar: Class 5.)

You were much clearer this time. Previously it sounded like you were upset that Severed Hand was going slower than the Glowing Black and not the same speed. And yes, it is flagged, as there are two versions of the spell: Fast version http://everquest.allakhazam.com/db/spell.html?spell=37808 Run2 version http://everquest.allakhazam.com/db/spell.html?spell=37802. And as I previously said, I mentioned that some people were having trouble with the flagging working correctly, and mounts that were suppose to go Run2 or Fast, were stuck at Run2. And as others have noted in this same thread. And yes some mounts like the original ones are all fixed at the speed they were intended, and possessing

Again, sorry, that I misinterpreted what you meant.

    Yther Ore.
  11. Caell Augur

Sorry I didn't mean to imply I was upset. Just trying to show that most mounts will "upgrade" to the higher speed if you possess a faster mount.
  12. SpamFactory Augur

It would be great if they didn't name the "run2" and "fast" versions of the mount spells exactly the same so people could easily check their buff window for which version they have and if they are bugged or not.

like I said before, I can /blockspell a "Fast" version of the mount and use the mount without getting a "your spell did not take hold message", but I do get that message when I blockspell the "run2" version of the mount. This makes me feel like I am only getting the "run2" mount. It's not easy to simply test with the naked eye either since different mounts are different sizes.it's like having a gnome and ogre in 1st person view walking at the same speeds, you "feel" slower on the ogre even though you are going the same speed as a gnome.

Some mounts will adjust their speed higher if you own (in bag, bank or house) a faster mount. Others will not. Which ones do adjust their speed is a SOE secret.

The quote by Ngreth people have linked here with the character flag was made by him and he said it ONLY referred to the new pegasi mounts offered at the time of the quote. SOE would not comment on other Marketplace / LoN mounts.

So there is no way to really know before you buy a mount what speed it will be unless you research it.

I've asked SOE several times to make this information easily available to the players (the item description would be a good place for it) and they have not done so.

If you go to the Lucy link: Lucy - Stacking Analysis for Summon Horse, you can look up what mount you have and if it is listed as "fast" then it will adjust higher (assuming it is not fast by default). As far as I know that is the only way to find out (other than riding it with a stopwatch).

Basically, the entire issue of mount speed is one shrouded in mystery by SOE for reasons known only to them.

What information I was able to determine is here: http://everquest.fanra.info/wiki/Mounts

All I know is my Chimera has never been outrun... and it looks cooler than any other mount...

    /satisfied

edit* well except by bards =P
  15. SpamFactory Augur

probably because chimera has always been the fastest speed. it predates the new mount system.

they didn't come up with the 2 speed mount script/secret invisible flag system until more recently. just marketplace mounts, expansion claim mounts starting from HoT, and the last 3 lon expansions seem to use it.
  16. Lighteningrod Augur

This whole "mystery" concept is pointless in this day and age of gaming. I remember it was barely neat and interesting back in the day when the options were limited to MUDs, UO, or EQ. Now it's just blatantly annoying and alienates gamers attempting to spend money on the product.

    Clickies: "Does the ability."
Patch Notes: "Spell X is now slightly more Y"
Patch Notes: "NPC X has lost his way."

Criminy, these aren't State secrets critical to National Defense. Simply state outright what something does, where it was moved to, or how and by how much it was changed.

Doing so would probably eliminate a whole bunch of complaints about what's broken vs. changed on purpose; what's nerfed vs. a figment of our imagination.

How many complaints are there regarding the loss of immersion as opposed to cries of, "Foul!" whether real or imagined.

Ok so I just did a few tests with 2 different mounts and two characters.

    Character A
    Class: warrior
other "fast" mounts owned by this character: black ornate chain bridle and a bridle of the flying imperial sokokar

    Character B
    Class: SK
Other "fast" mounts owned by this character: unholy steed AA

Round 1: using severed hand from ROF /claim
/blockspell add me 37808 [this is the spell ID for the "fast" version of the hand]
result on warrior: cannot summon hand mount
result on SK; cannot summon hand mount

conclusion: both characters are properly receiving the "Fast" version of the mount

Round 2: using the ornate flying carpet mount. unfortunately I could only test this on the warrior
/blockspell add me 37667 [this is the spell ID for the "fast" version of the flying carpet]
result on warrior: can still summon a flying carpet

conclusion: warrior is NOT receiving the "fast" version of the flying carpet. He must be summoning the "run2" version of the carpet. This means there is a problem with the script since the outcome should have been identical as it was with the hand mount in Round 1 above.

So there is a bug with the script, and it seems to be a case by case basis for each mount. The severed hand from ROF claims is fine, but the ornate flying carpet from lon is bugged.

A side question to the whole fast horse thing. If I've gotten the shiny roboboar, via the anniversary quests, can I add an essence of speed to it? Or is there something else that I would have to do before adding the essence of speed?

    Thanks

I've also noticed the lacking speed from the Ornate Flying Carpet, can't help but wonder if it is a bug or intended.

Tested this last year, it works.

Bumping, I know I am horrible. Did anyone ever figure out this?
