As a former sysadmin that worked extensively with a dev team, that is a TON of work that is going on! I applaud what the whole team is doing and I love that we get the insight that has been presented. In these forums we get presented with what's going on, and usually the only people that post are the ones that want or think that this or that needs attention. Typically it is something that they are focused on, and they aren't seeing the bigger picture in overall game development. I get it, when people are at one or another point in the progression of the entire game world, some people tend to focus on their "view" of what is important and what isn't, and it's ok to voice that and to hear where people are in the game and to know what's important to each of them. It gets annoying to me when people start the hating or arguing about which dev tracks need more attention than they are seeing, it seems pointless to me for that hate or argument to take place. The eyes and fingers that do the work are well aware of what needs to happen, we have the bug tool that lets the teams know where people are on minor and major issues. We also have the test population that works and reports things that go wonky, that is what the test server is for and that system works well. I really like the idea of this dev log, to know what is being looked at, what is coming down the pike, and to see a short list of what is being worked on. Yes, I said short list, I'm certain that aside from this list, there are side projects and cleanup being done that don't appear on this list. I'm sure that the presented list isn't an absolute of every single thing being worked on, that list would probably take up the first three pages of the initial post :)

I applaud the dev work being done, I applaud the bug fixers, I applaud the management team and the people that come up with the "next chapter" of this unending game, and I applaud the sysadmins, maybe now called dev-ops, that keep the whole system on track and functional.

That's my 2 cents, keep the change ;)

Basically there should be an options toggle so that the player can decide in which version he does play. It would be quite some work to add such a feature but it is doable. All zone lines, clickies and port spells that are linked to the original and revamped zones would have to be modified by adding a logcial IF check formula that is reading the options toggle data.

I got used to like both versions for some zones, or at least some areas, but they are not the same zones anymore. Commonlands and Freeport and it's sewers are bad revamps, while Nektulos (player made !), Innothule Swamp, and North Ro are good revamps imo. The biggest problems are alienation and the loss of content which had great impact on the memories of early players.

Very curious what the outcome of this investigation was.

If we had a dislike button, I would happily spend a week of my life creating 100 accounts to dislike every post about zone revamps 100 times over.

I would happily spend all of my time every day disliking every post about revamps, to ensure no work got done on any classic zone revamps.

Ron Swanson knew best. We will work all night, if it means nothing gets done (on zone revamps). It will be better to work all night to ensure nothing gets done, than to do nothing at all.

Like Yinla said in this thread: The only revamp we need is back to the old freeport.
  8. Marton Augur

Ahh old Freeport. Yes, that revamp I would support.

Fully agree. All the new UI is a mess to put it mildly. Please take it out and fix it and first put it in when it works. Used a ton of time re alligning everything after update 17'th of july

No worries, anyone holding their breath for the'UI update' long ago died of asphyxiation.

I just took a look into my crystall ball and received the following vision:

    Game Update Notes - July 19, 2034

    UI
    • We made further improvements to the UI.
    • Performance is much better now.
    • Many bugs got fixed.
    • With the next update we are upgrading the UI to DirectX 12.
    • The new requirement for EverQuest will be Windows AI 128 bit. Older OS versions will no longer be supported.

This particular task is an experiment and a training aid. Information we glean from it will be used for future decisions, but are not, at this time, and indication of a massive revamp.

In this particular case, yes. We had some plans to make that storyline a two-expansion storyline. We did NOT go into deep detail, but we did at least decide on some story seeds.

But Laurion Song and The Outer Brood do not have a connection, so, there was no planning for TOB during the creation of LS. The most was, LS and TOB were pitched the same year, we happened to pick LS as our choice. Then when we pitched the next year, TOB was chosen (The names were not chosen that early!)

If this type of list is going to be a common occurrence moving forward, might I suggest that a heading Training be created and items like this be placed under it. I would be concerned if the zone revamps were being added to an already full schedule. As a training projects, there's no such concerns and it is interesting to see how new developers are being introduced to EQ systems.

Placing such items in the list with zero context just leads to speculation and false narratives.

Thank you for the clarification with this though.

P.S. I applaud the early appearance of the next expansion information this summer. I hope that continues for the future expansion(s).

wow this is awesome. Thank you so much for sharing! It would be wonderful if this becomes a monthly standard :)

Can you share any expac ideas that were considered in the past but will never happen now?
  16. Taladir Augur

I could not agree more. What would be really baller is an Origins server similar to EQ 2 where we get the original zone geometry, models, and music from classic EQ. I'd pay $30 a month for that type of server.
  17. Zieri Content Designer

What was proposed but didn't make the cut for that year is always an option to pitch another year. I have one I pitched a previous year that I plan to resubmit for consideration in the future once I rework it. (Nope, sorry, no hints from me. hehe!)

This is where the Outer Brood have stationed themselves to attack Norrath, and will be TOB part 2 in 2026.

I disagree. Many zones are sub-standard and could use a revamp. Some could use a 100% revamp, others need to be repopulated and re-itemized.

I believe they did a good job with revamping Commons, NRO/OASIS, SRO, Tox, Misty Thicket and Steamfont. They should revamp as much of classic EQ as possible. Kunark zone revamps would be my second choice as far as priority.

EverQuest 3 may never come out. EverQuest is their only truly successful MMORPG right now. It's in Darkpaw's best interest to keep EQ as up-to-date and evergreen as possible.
