EQ1 To do list

Discussion in 'Time Locked Progression Servers' started by Innate - Monk, Jan 18, 2024.

  1. Innate - Monk Journeyman

The game has undergone several philosophical changes over the last 25 years. From Classic's belief that INT was going to be useful to a warrior, to Luclin starting the trend of putting the final raid zone behind a prolonged quest to access the zone, and OoW gave us a reduced raid size and so on.

The development team is increasingly going to be pressed between modernizing systems and not changing things so much as to destroy the nostalgia the game lives on. These systems need to undergo review now in order to be set for a future "relaunch" of the title that will include a graphical upgrade. We need a plan to clean this up for the next 25 years of TLPs.

    EQ1 To Do List-

Graphics - The upgrade would make the game much more appealing to younger players who find the games low poly count off putting. However, we should also honor the precedent set with the Luclin graphics upgrade, and allow the new graphics to be toggle-able. I just bought a PC brand new on Amazon for $175 and it runs EQ almost as well as my $1500 PC thats 4 years old.

Spells - Should *most* spells, regardless of expansion be available from the starting city vendors?
Raid drop spells, Kunark drop spells, and future runes should not be purchasable.

Classes - As long as we are reworking spell vendors, lets add in Beastlord and Berserker trainers and vendors to classic. This might mean converting some AAs into skills or spells in order to make the Berserker more viable until Luclin.

Skills and AAs - With Personas being introduced, Skills and AAs should no longer be bundled by class, instead all Skills and AAs should be tied to Names, however you would need a Tag in order to see them. This way when my level 60 Paladin has Run Speed 3, I dont need to invest time into learning RS3 on my other Personas. And as soon as my Monk unlocks Tripple Attack, its taken to the same skill level that my warrior leveled it to. ( not to exceed the Persona's class skill cap )

Faction - Due to Personas, faction should be reworked so it is tied to the Name, not the class.

Maps for all zones need to be updated in a unified system in game, and from DBG, not 3rd party.

TLPs - There *Needs* to be a new Era locked server that I would suggest be locked to Prophecy of Ro. There are enough expansions that if you think of them as pages in a book, several natural chapters emerge. We already have Chapter 1 - Classic Thru LDoN. Chapter two should advance the story, but not so much so that you trivialize the new content introduced, GoD - PoR. Wait 2 years, and release the Chapter 3. The 2 year gap gives multiple new guilds to stretch their End Game from PoP to PoR's. Once these players have learned this new content, they will be willing to play further into the expansions before quitting.

Wizard Spire teleport timer should be reduced to 5 minutes.

Alchemy ingredients for sub 60 potions need to be included in level appropriate loot tables.

    What else have I forgot?

Veeshan's Peak was 2 years before Luclin. Sleeper's Tomb also before. GoD had 54 person raids before OoW.
  3. Innate Elder

VP and ST both have short keying process comparative to VT and Time wouldnt you agree? And you are correct about GoD VS OoW for 54 man raids.
  4. Manerz Elder

The VP key line used to be a much bigger pain and take longer than the VT key.

    My To do List
delete EQ like they delete my posts about the AMA.

Look I probably will play but I won't spend a dime on subscriptions or xp potions. I don't care if this means Daybreak cannot support EQ and its taken offline, there are plenty of other unofficial servers to play on.

Also come buy your quillmane cloaks from me HAHAH - thanks for the 170 krono on Oakwynd!

ST is simple, VP being shorter than VT tho? idk about all that...

Graphics - I bought a laptop with Win 11 this year for less than $200, and it runs EQ nearly as well as my 2020 PC. It only really struggles in PoK near the main bank pile.

Spells - I don't see any reason not to put most spells on starting city vendors. The leveling process is much, much faster than it used to be. Gathering all the spells from around the world before Plane of Knowledge is nothing but annoying anymore, after having leveled hundreds of characters. Sure, it has a nostalgia factor, but so does riding horse and buggy instead of an automobile -- it's an archaic time sink and unnecessary difficulty for new players.

Classes - It would be nice to see BER and BST in at classic, I think the dev team today is competent enough to accomplish this task, even if it causes a few hiccups at first.

Maps - I agree that we should finally have official maps after 25 years, with the option to continue using player made maps and to make our own if we wish, of course.

Literally none of this should happen.

    Focus on EQ3.

They just need to get better at TLP rulesets. Been several years of duds since Mischief.

Yeah I'm not going to ask for any "improvements" other than basic QOL changes. I'm going to be compiling a list for when the discussion for EQ3 begins in earnest.

We agree on EQ3, but 1.75 years isn't several lol. But I get your meaning.

They are going to invest more into EQ1 to keep milking the cash flow for another decade. This is about our interests in said investments.

Here are some very low effort ones:
    • Reduce the raid out of combat timer to 30s
    • no minimum level required for grouping xp, buffs landing on you
    • no required level on items
    • un-nerf AOC DZ XP
    • allow persona's to be swapped in any zone

    Huge win for items 1-4.

Hard pass on the persona change. Keep personas difficult for TLP. Bad enough they allow them on TLP.

I want the new, Era Locked server that’s higher than Agnarr. And very cheap to implement.

    Those are really good suggestions,
I've got a really,,, REALLY simple one: FIX the broken tab to desktop functionality so millions of us players can box multiple accounts again. We are tired of wasting.our money and time trying to solve this debacle....

This is a great list. I cant speak towards personas, but the other things on the list are things people have been asking for the entire era of modern TLPs (Since Ragefire).

I will add one more thing to the list, maybe not as easy to implement, but I think it would vastly increase the QoL of the early game.

    Raid Currency.

It works great in the later eras of a TLP to fill in the gaps in gear that naturally arise with a short time in each era. Each raid gives a small amount of currency that can be used to purchase raid gear from a vendor. Having trouble getting that ONE ITEM that you want to drop? No longer an issue. Save enough currency from raids and eventually you will be able to purchase the item.

Some may argue that this takes away from the "Prestige" of winning a rare item through regular means, but at nearly 25 years into this game, no one should really care. There are tons of these "prestigious" items on every TLP. I cant think of any reason why any player who wants a certain item - so long as they have done the raids enough times to accrue enough currency - shouldn't be able to obtain the item they want. Opposing this sentiment reeks of hearing a certain someone say "Casuals shouldn't be able to kill Nagafen" and I think we have left that mentality in the past, where it belongs.

The top of any to-do list should be actively addressing cheating. I am thrilled to see they are working on addressing it this year, but I worry they won't do enough. It is super discouraging to see people automating gameplay so blatantly. Other than that I like most of what is suggested.
  18. Shalom Quillmane Bane

I'm sure they've performed trial counts to see how many cheaters would be banned. I am betting its about 1/3 the population. I don't think they'll be cracking down the way we think or want.
