Enforced Raid Rotations Come to an End

Discussion in 'Time Locked Progression Servers' started by Roshen, Sep 21, 2015.

wreck? EverQuest never intended on there being rotations in the first place. Some communities adopted it a decade ago while most didn't and everything worked out just fine.

Additionally, there is still a rotation on Lockjaw however two guilds are choosing to not be a part of it.

The population is greater and 24/7 camping isn't realistic. Unless the rest of the guilds are okay with scavenging, then I foresee another Fippy and Vulak.
  3. Edrixx Lorekeeper

Not so sure I necessarily agree that the population is greater as it only seems bigger due to the amount of boxes.

The server isn't wrecked but the dynamic certainly has changed. There is still a rotation and most guilds still respect it but you can't expect the mob to stay up for 12+ hours until you are ready anymore. To adapt to the changes, smaller/casual guilds should start looking into merging so targeting raid content is a real possibility for them.

EverQuest never intended to have raid content assigned via spreadsheet. If you want dragons you'll need to adapt or die.

This coming from someone in a rotation guild and I fully support rotation.

You realize that their were multiple competing guilds on fippy...And the server would probably still be going strong had they just merged the 2 when it was first brought up... So that's a terrible analogy.
  5. Lee81 Augur

    Not enough content for that
  6. Porygon Augur

There's plenty of content for that. I mean look, I've read almost all of your posts, you don't have the time to commit to REALLY raiding in eq. That's not a bad thing, everyone leads different lives. But you don't really need to continue to tell people this. We all get it.

Come back for the no box server, or play another game. Those seem to be your only options at the moment. At least unless they instance lockjaw. Or, join guild and raids when you can. MM has no requirement for attendance. I miss A LOT of raids. I still get to enjoy a life outside of raiding as well. We generally don't bat phone in the middle of the night. It's not a bad situation.

I'm trying to save both servers. They obviously won't allow transfers. It's going to be very lonely soon.

The Ragefire and Lockjaw servers don't need your help, hero. I hope you find your forever home soon.

Ragefire and Lockjaw should be FFA to stay true to classic EQ. I hope that this continues.

"Staying true to Classic EQ" would mean making new servers to balance the population, which is obviously no longer happening after the 2nd TLP of this current wave was made. Old EQ management made servers when the population was booming, and collapsed them when necessary.
Since this won't happen, to make a 3rd TLP with this wave, we need something else to make this a more classic experience; 8+ guilds per server doing all raid content is not at all Classic, nor anytime before Omens of War.

I like that there are many guilds and a big community. It's just not programmed to help that community experience end game. Making too many servers will dwindle the population, and the community. Instancing content will keep players together just making content available for everyone that can beat it.

    no brainer.

At the end of the day this is nothing like the real "classic EQ" these servers are like a hybrid of what was what there is now. Just have to go with flow hope for the best, expect the worst.

We're trying to get as close to classic as possible. Lockjaw and Ragefire should remain FFA. Keep it up guys! I know that you can get to the raid targets over the 5+ guilds on your servers.
  14. Lee81 Augur

Or, we can do FFA! No rules, just whomever can get to the target and burn it down first.

So far this was a rather horrible idea from DBG. ;)
  16. Porygon Augur

Did this become unlocked...Or am I losing my mind lol
  17. Zurd Lorekeeper

fascinating. Maybe the locking craze is drawing to an end?

This is a very good move.

The high population and large number of guilds on Ragefire is pure awesome. You're suggestion of creating more servers to thin the server populations is horrible.

This is what EQ should have been. You can potentially get groups in all level ranges 24 hours a day 7 days a week. It's amazing!

There are times when I can't get a group sure, but it's not due to a lack of tanks, clerics and enchanters online. It's just that there are already a ton online already in a group. I just pick an alt, and try another area and level range. It's the easiest point in Everquest history to get groups, meet new people and explore dungeons and camps you never got to go before.

Thinning the population would ruin this once in a life time experience.

And, yes I raided on Ragefire. It was enjoyable most of the time. My schedule just didn't work with raiding right now, so I stopped raiding for the time being. Like others pointed out, if you want to raid, join a guild that has the numbers to raid 24/7, and show up to the raids you are online for. The ones while you are offline won't hurt you to miss.

Particularly in response to your final paragraph. if you want to see all the content in era there is only one guild to join, Twisted Legacy. There are a couple NA guilds that aren't able to contest them even during primetime (which is also TL's "primetime") and there are 2 Euro guilds which cannot contest them during their own primetime.

When EQ launched in 1999 they did release more servers to accommodate the population. Many of us do not want more servers, we wanted instancing at the top of the game. This would be very similar to more servers that effectively "auto" merge when the populations dwindle. Unfortunately this is not what we're getting. Daybreak is going to add another server (and that server will have instancing) and it might hurt Ragefire a lot. Hopefully either the No boxing aspect of the new server deters enough people that Ragefire's population stays healthy or they add instancing to Ragefire to give people little/no reason to move to the new server.
