Spell Casting Mastery Charm AA's (total domination, Direcharm is bad) Defensives Then its pretty much playstyle dependent.
Direcharm is fine for PoP. Too powerful, even, since it basically makes enc into magician++. It's just not nearly as powerful as real charm -- which is pretty funny
They specifically sprinkled lower level hard hitting mobs in PoP zones for Dire Charm. Those were decent and safe to use, though I typically preffered to run a heavy pet. BoT giants worked very well once you had TD. In further expansions, even if they did put DC mobs in zones, they were pretty pathetic. On live, with things like dominating auras, charm with built-in haste (so haste drops along with charm) charming can be pretty decent.
Some people may not mention it, but casting fury and fury of power after total domination. Its like specializing in evocation. It may not be flashy, but after classic, enchanters still cast more nukes than any other spell
