Eat a Krono for exp?

If the concept is truly "cut out the middle man" then you don't even need Krono.

Just go all the way, literally but Level boosts in the cash shop.

Wanna get an alt up to cap before an expansion opens?

    5 level bump = 10,00 DB
    10 level bump =25,00 DB
Max level character = 50,000 DB
Bags of platinum should also be on the cash shop.

And I don't want to hear about "but you need to play the game!" I'm literally buying platinum and levels to play the game.

Or DPG could do the really hard job of having a GM
    - Log into Oakwynd
    - Check chat spam
    - Go to POT , Deep
    - Do AFK Checks and suspend/ban (there is a lot of spam on AFK PLs also)

This should take 20 mins a day or so?

You know the same way it would have taken 5 mins to check Siren's Grotto on TLPs past years where
two dozen or more were farming 24x7 every pick?

I sincerely do believe that the krono generated by these PL activities is a big revenue stream, so unless inadvertently caught like in the depot dupe recently, the SG and Deep (and now Sebilis) 24x7 crews are left untouched. Given that, no harm in a lvl 50 Heroic on TLPs costing a krono or two for lvl 60 etc.

It won't get rid of anything.

I don't expect the OP's suggestion will ever happen but the idea has merit.
First, as to why it won't happen is the outcry from purists at being allowed to buy experience. Some (many?) might leave the game as posts calling it pay-to-win fill the forums.
Still, the AoE PL providers are already here and apparently not leaving. There is an opportunity for DPG to offer something. Financially, DPG would need to compare sales of exp potions to "level-up" sales. But the consumption of krono for the level-ups, or perhaps cash payments might be a boon for DPG.
They might also offer a series of "not-so-heroic" character upgrades. One at 50, 60, etc.

"It's the Economy, stupid!" (c) 1992 James Carville
Every Krono paid to PL crews has been purchased from DPG. Whatever way generates the most Kronos sales is the best for DPG, and as such they are not interested of providing the most efficient (less Kronos/dollars) way for players to pay for their levels. They are interested in maximizing Krono sales, which equates to making PL purchases the most expepensive in terms of Kronos.
That's why they do nothing to eliminate PL and farm crews, because in the end they sell more Kronos.

And the entire TLP universe is just a way to profiteer off nostalgic "noobs". TLP's are just "gambling parlors in an alley". Most of the players I know on BB (raiders or not, dedicated or casual) do not consider TLPs as anything more than a "Krono farming field". Some do play on TLP's (especially newly opened), but not for a game-play. To farm Krono off the fresh herd of naive players returned or new. Or to play a Krono market game to rob the robberers, i.e. to outplay professional TLP farmers if the fortune smiles on them. Nobody takes TLP seriously - pure profiteering.

It would cut out the sellers that is for sure or at least reduce their prices drastically.
  7. Waring_McMarrin Augur

Do you mean 1,000 (or $10) for 5 levels or 10,000 (or $100) for 5 levels?
  8. Trevalon Augur

We used to be able to do that way back in the day. But they took it away cause they would do double/triple station cash days and people would stock up huge amounts then use it to buy the newest Expansion or game time and get it at a massive discount. So they took away the ability to turn Krono into DBC.

But then took away buying things like expansions and game time from DBC but still didnt give us the ability to convert Krono to DBC...
  9. Trevalon Augur

But yes, I wouldnt mind a eat a krono for exp. Id probably use it some. Especially if it gave AA.
  10. Waring_McMarrin Augur

Are you thinking of cards that they used to sell in various stores that could be redeemed for station cash or game time? They have never had the ability to convert a krono to DBC

I just threw up arbitrary numbers as a cost for the level increase because I like the concept. The customer base of EQ, in the year 2024, has more money than time. Leverage it.

    2024 cash shop items:
    • TLP server heroic toons (naked and 5 levels under the current). This transitions (unavailable) once the server reaches HoT.
    • 500 AA tokens (if the consumer can not gain 500 aa and their bank can not hold the balance at this time item is returned to inventory) -1000DB
    • 1000AA tokens (" ") -2000DB
    • 10,000AA tokens (" ") -10000DB
    • 5 level increase tokens (if the consumer can not gain 5 levels at this time item is returned to inventory) - 1000DB
    • 10 level increase tokens (" ") - 2000DB
This fixes some of the issues with your alternate personas too.
  12. Waring_McMarrin Augur

If you are talking 1000DBC for 5 levels I am sure that many people would be happy to purchase it especially when it is only 900DBC for member in order to bypass the entire level grind on a new expansion. Though I don't think Daybreak would agree with that as they have removed ways that players used to instant level up to max with a new expansion launch.

The only thing I would argue is the token return if something couldn't happen all the way. Already it's possible to end up with more AAs than you can bank when doing AA grant and sitting on banked AAs. I think, it's happened to me a few times, and I wasn't paying attention well enough to see exactly what it was. Regardless, you get a warning to spend all overflow AA points before logging out, or they will be lost. Apply the same warning system for an AA token. You should know if you're not going to get the full benefit, and if you lose points, that's a you problem, not the game.

As far as level increment tokens, if you are level 62 and the current level cap is 65 and you use a token, you're obviously not going to be able to bank the xp or the extra levels for the next cap increase. Burn a token at your own risk.

Oh yeah, I'd also argue that even if the EQ player base at large currently has more money than time, US and global economic problems are only going to get worse over the next year. Just last month, Tencent lost tens of millions in market share after China announced new restrictions to online gaming. And that's just one company, in one country, in one tiny segment of a global economy. Hasbro has laid off more than 20% of their employees over the last several months, Amazon and Twitch specifically have laid off a large chunk of people as well. Daybreak in its current form and all other past iterations are known for their layoffs over the last 25 years, but they aren't the only ones in the MMO segment of the economy. I think it's going to get much worse, before it starts to get better.
  14. OldTimeEQ1 Augur

All you guys who are happy to fork over Krono for levels and AAs, please come to Oakwynd. There are atleast a few PLers spamming channels at any given time! 3 Krono for 4 hours of Plane of Innovation!
  15. Hdizzle Augur

Yeah its not perfect, I just threw up a bare bones example of how it could work. I am certain there are technology barriers and scenarios that would prevent the token from working exactly as it should.

Sounds like a good idea to drive some revenue then, eh? The money's there, people just don't spend it in the cash shop...

we power leveled guildies back in 2001 always a part of the game... is that against the rules?
  17. NImxat Elder

No, power leveling others is not against the rules. The original poster suggested that DPG takes the initiative to offer "experience for kronos" as an option to players paying the PL sellers. I think the idea has merit for DPG. DPG would still sell kronos that players would use to level their toons. Ultimately, DPG might sell more kronos since right now there are a large amount of recyling kronos. (RMT for kronos already in game, buying PLs with those kronos, and recycle.)

Separately, the topic of enforcing the rules against 3rd party program use came up.

Honestly, this would be 100% better then botters filling up the zones.....

    Levels 1-20 1krono
    Levels 30-40 2kr
    Levels 40 - 50 2kr
    Levels 50-60 5kr

    30 AA points - 3kr

This schedule is on par with PL team rates. At 50...4kr for 4hours is like you stall out around 56. Another 4kr gets you to halfway thru 59..maybe 60 if you got the best PLer (cheater) on the server.

Not available first 12 weeks of game or something like that.
I just hope they address the botting and PL that has ruined the last handful of servers.

Station cash is a bad idea unless we can convert krono into station cash...most people with tons of krono earned it in game...if you are going to charge station cash you lose most users right of the bat where the purpose of the krono is play the game enough and its free to level alts / buy gear and pay your subs.
  19. OldTimeEQ1 Augur

I thought AFK expping was against the rules then, and now - but I just could be the 1% of the player base who even cared about the game rules!
  20. Yinla Ye Ol' Dragon

AFK killing is against the the rules. Being PLed isn't against the rules if the player is still at the keyboard. I remember on Vaniki someone was being PLed and they were in /gu chatting about it.
