I think you're asking about Scorching Skin , the level 118 magician spell that has a 4-hit-counter large damage shield? (rk. ii) Max Hits: 4 Incoming Hit Successes 12: Increase Damage Shield by 15490 that will stack with the hour+ duration, unlimited hits Emberweave Coat, because Scorching Skin is slot 12 and Emberweave Coat is slot 1 Circle of Emberweave Coat 1: Increase Damage Shield by 6536 2: Increase Fire Resist by 50 Scorching Skin is not a popular spell. Because of its limited hits, it acts more like a nuke than like a damage shield, but contributes WAY less damage than nukes.
Yeah, I don't understand the purpose of this spell. It's basically useless. Would be nice if spells like this could get changed into something that serves a purpose.
It's next to no agro, and completely unresistable. Those factors aren't literally nothing, they're just not enough in 2022. The damage scale made more sense around level 90, it just hasn't kept up. Advancement in nuke crit multipliers, focuses & such have left it in the dust.
There's one other factor which made them nice to use. Druids had two lines like this (now only one), and one of them had a VERY fast cast time. If you do WDPS calcs, you would be getting a lot of damage/cast time, making it competitive with other damage spells. However, as stated, they didn't bother to make these lines really keep up with the times, so they are now unused. One problem is, nukes and DoTs have tons of AA lines which magnify the damage, as well as foci from gear. DS spells get none of these.
