Yeah, this definitely will not be abused by some of our ForumQuesters....

In fairness, what feature won't be abused?
  3. Cicelee Augur

What other features are happening with the new forums? I am aware of a dislike, is there more?

People should know that forum bans are automated now, via a point system. Points can be assesed by using keywords in posts, such as "st*p*d". It is probable but not yet certain that dislikes to a post will cost you points. So, ForumQuest may become an actual MMO. Buckle up!

Forum categories are going to be reorganized, along the same lines as you can see now in the EQ2 forums, which have already gone through the same software conversion process.

She was pretty clear. New features *could* be added that were not possible in the current forums.

I will believe a dislike button and poll questions when they happen. Until then, just like R.O.U.S, they don't exist. We cannot even get more than 24 hour official notices on holiday bonuses that haven't changed in 2 decades.

P.S. If you complain about "ForumQuesters" before anything happens, does that make you worse?

Just saying that if a feature can be abused, a gamer will find a way. I actually wasn't trying to be too serious.

True ForumQuesting will now require a certain level of suppleness in the Dislike finger that can only be maintained by grinding.

So Joe Schmo doesn’t like me for whatever reason. I post/reply, Joe dislikes what I write regardless of content, and after enough points I have gained enough points to warrant a ban from the forums.

Am I reading that correct? Cause if so, that is blatant abuse. That cannot actually be how it works.

If all it does is say, "xyz dislikes this post", then it is easy to ignore that. Why should I care about what xyz thinks?

If they are someone who I know and respect, then that is different. But usually they would post why they dislike my post with some useful criticism, which I respect even if I may or may not disagree.

Having a dislike button has unintended consequences. It will encourage toxicity and brigading. People who engage in routine personal attacks on these forums will log on with all their alternate accounts to dislike your post. They will get their guild buddies to do the same. The more a post is disliked the more that others will jump on the bandwagon to dislike that post which compounds the problem.

I think there should be no like or dislike button at all. It takes no effort. If you want to contribute to a discussion you should at least have to put in the effort and write something.

There should be one coming up very soon but no mentioned of it. Its pretty lame they dont announce stuff more ahead of time. When eq is finally over are they gonna just give us a 1 day notice?

EQ day or RL day? o_O

I honestly thought he was saying if you use dislike too many times you yourself lose points. :)
In any case dont take too seriously what a rando forum post says. None of us have any idea how it works but some like to pretend like they do.

There is a difference between someone disliking a post because they differ in opinion and offer constructive feedback... and someone disliking a post because they don't like the person and are hoping that enough dislikes from enough FQ accounts can get the person banned. One part is healthy debate and discussion, and the other is petty and toxic.

EDIT- In any event, it was announced there will be a dislike button on these forums. I just wonder how it is going to impact a website forum that I, like many others, enjoy reading and posting and discussing on...

People do already use the like button for that. I think it would be the best if we do not use like and dislike buttons in the future as their usage will get protocolled by the AI to analyze and save our behaviour data in centralized global profiles. What we like, what we do not like, etc. Not having like and dislike buttons would be the better solution. I should like a part of your post but I won't and you know why.

As I stated in the new forum announcement post, I think this is a horrible idea because it is ripe for abuse and a step backwards from encouraging positive and meaningful interactions between users.

Sure, you can just ignore it. But why enable something in the first place if it won't have a positive effect?

Yes that's very true. Someone posts a something. Another person doesn't agree, then posts a reply. Then friends of the poster come out of the woodwork to "like" that reply. It's sneaky "dislike" button.

I predict the dislike button on the new forums won't last longer than a month because there's nothing stopping a person with 10 accounts logging on to each forum account and disliking your posts to create a false consensus.

However, if they want to introduce a "dislike" button then they should allow a "block" user button as well. Twitter has this already. This way you can prevent people who dislike posts out of spite from reading your posts and stop them dead in their tracks.
