Fixed Desktop Windowed mode position issue

    As of today's patch, this setting in the eqclient.ini file keeps getting reset to 0, and this is undesirable.
    [Defaults]
    WindowedModeYOffset=0

    In windows 11, I set this value to -31 so that the windowed title bar is offscreen, and the client makes full use of my monitor's real estate for game/UI rendering.

    My monitor is 5120 x 1440 so full screen is not a reasonable option. Is there a work around?

    Thanks in advance!

    I am not sure what has changed but borderless windowed mode (which I have used for years and years) is broke. It seems when I load into EQ the game is changing my windowed mode offset back:

    What I have set:
    WindowedModeXOffset=-8
    WindowedModeYOffset=-31

    What it changes to when I load into EQ:
    WindowedModeXOffset=0
    WindowedModeYOffset=0

    0,0 is funny because the window isn't even centered, it's pushed to the right, hence why I use a -8 in my ini. I even went as far as to try the restored offset option, which has been set in my ini for like a decade now but I am not sure if it's still in play:

    RestoredXOffset=-8
    RestoredYOffset=-31

    This used to work, to my knowledge, when I switched from full screen to windowed mode, or, if I reselected 3400x1440 (my native panel resolution) it would 'fix' the window if windows decided to move it (like it does when you turn a monitor off or have a screen saver come on). That no longer works either. I reselect the same resolution and hit apply- it does not restore anything. If I change to another resolution and back to 3440x1440 it is still broke.

    Is there anything I can change? alt-tabbing was INSTANT prior to today's patch. Now I either have to live with this broken windowed mode, or a laggy exclusive full screen that takes literal seconds to alt-tab. If there is any fix, workaround, or anything like that I am more than happy to try. This currently breaks the whole playing experience.

    I'll clarify, the offset moves the title bar outside of the screen space which essentially makes the game borderless fullscreen. The x offset just aligns the window to not be cut off (as x=0 has the window pushed to the right which leaves a gap on the left and cuts off the right of the window).

    Same problem. Hope this gets resolved before Teek launch.

    Same issue here. With the game stretching in ultra-wide I use this setting so I can run it in a 16:9 ratio and it looks good. Looking for a fast fix on this.

    Uhg, same issue. Not sure I can play the game like this. Hope it gets fixed soon.

    As a temporary workaround at 1440p, I've made the following changes to eqclient.ini

    WindowedWidth=2544
    WindowedHeight=1380

    This leaves room for the taskbar at the bottom and aligns the client window to the center of the screen. It still looks ugly but no longer triggers my "THIS IS NOT CENTERED" OCD.

    Reverted back to my normal custom windowed resolution (2560x1420) and none of the UI elements were out of place, so going to change my other eqclient.ini and feel safe(ish) logging in other chars.

    Nevermind, this will $#*& up your bag locations. Not a huge amount, but noticeable. I will wait for a fix (hopefully before next month) as I don't feel like spending the rest of my days aligning bags again.

    I make a backup of my two EQ installs before each patch, after digging a bit I think bag locations are stored in "UI_charname_servername_class.ini" so can just restore those after this gets sorted out.

    Setting eqclient.ini to read-only keeps the offset values but for whatever reason they are only applied for a fraction of a second, while server select loads. Then the 0,0 offset is applied from some magic place.

    Exactly the issue I'm having... This patch completely destroyed borderless window, I'm going to have to wait until this is resolved. I hope the devs reverse this change as soon as possible.

    Having the same issue. eqclient.ini offset values are being reset to 0,0 when logging in. Just wanted to chime in so hopefully puts this issue higher so they actually look at it. I'm happy for those that have wanted full screen fixed but now windowed is broken.

    Seriously? Come on...

    My settings have been this for YEARS so I can have borderless window mode and now as the OP is stating the WindowedModeYOffset gets reset to 0 the instant you load into character select
    WindowedModeXOffset=-8
    WindowedModeYOffset=-32

    Good call Aiha, still stinks but at least its playable now.

    I made my eqclient.ini read only and it kept the WindowedModeYOffset=-32 setting but the window still snapped within the bounds of my screen. I am thinking it has nothing to do with the .ini file, it must be how they're using DirectX that will no longer allow you to drag a window above the bounds of your screen.

    Try moving the title bar of ANY application above the top of your screen, it just snaps back. Maybe there is a work around in windows for this, stay tuned :)

    I've never used any 3rd party software for EQ but they seem hellbent on forcing us into it /tinfoil

    Weeks ago on test when this same patch went through it killed borderless window mode which had been working flawlessly for many years.
    This change from the patch note was what did it I believe;

    The game client can once again launch in full screen mode and switching between desktop windows should be smoother!

    I noted it in the bug report at the same time there was a massive lag when tagging to different instances of EQ or any other program that was running. That part was fixed. The borderless was not. I could switch to live and borderless was perfect. Same account same installation. The second I would switch the option at login to Test it would lose the borderless and you had to adjust each time all sides and still have half or more of the top bar showing.

    It’s whatever change they did with the full screen and windowed.

    Can that Steam app work outside of Steam? I don’t play EQ with Steam. Same only installation run from windows.

    Alt tab is no longer working responsively which is making it much more difficult to box.

    Windowed mode offsets no longer work and EQ window is in a bad position every time it runs. Settings won't save and forces me to readjust every time I reopen EQ. The window also won't let me drag it as far up as it used to (used to be able to hide the top bar, but now there is a limit on how far up the EQ window can be dragged. There's always a part that will show)

    I am also affected by this bug. I used to be able to edit eqclient.ini lines to offset the window so that the window would cover the entire screen, hiding the title bar and covering the task bar. Now it does not keep my changes. Please fix this back to how it was!

    WindowedModeXOffset=-8
    WindowedModeYOffset=-31
