A couple years ago, in a thread on the old forums, a dev kindly listed the team and their responsibilities. Would it be possible to get a new list, possibly stickied? More out of curiosity than any real reason.
There are six main sections of EverQuest, production, systems, code, content, Quality Assurance, art. Production: Phathom - Producer. Rathti - Used to be an EverQuest dev, but is now an associate/assistant producer. Systems: Ngreth - Lead Designer) Elidroth - AAs. Chandrok is on itemization Aristo does spells (Also runs the patches) Jansan - Does tradeskills. Used to be a systems dev, and possibly still is. Code JChan - Lead Coder. Jgray - Think he's a coder... Did a lot of the housing stuff. Choover - Spell effects and combat. Jhansen - visual effects, combat, etc. Rtugok - Jerk that turns me chain illusions me into a Vah Shir and changes my surname to Aggrometer. Content: Absor - Assistant Lead Designer... Concentrates on the basepop/quest/mission/raid/story side of EverQuest. He knows the systems, just not as well as the ones assigned to those. Also, covers for Ngreth when he's out. Augur - Does some quests. Dzarn - Raids, zones, basepop, etc. Ellyra - Did some raids, zones, basepop, etc... also seems to be helping out with some systems recently? (Spells/AA) Elegist - Did some raids, basepop, quests, etc. Elidroth - Some raids. Normando - Misc quests Quality Assurance: Zieri - Quality Assurance. She usually tests a bunch of quests with groups on beta. Calivess - Quality assurance, and apprentice Dev... Most recently has been helping with the Zek things that are out of balance. Art: I don't actually know any of the artists... But they are pretty cool. Kinda out of date.. Someone can lurk through the zone threads in beta to get a list of what exactly the content devs did this expansion.
I made some corrections above. Zieri is not QA, but CS, and she is an Apprentice. Calivess retired as an apprentice, but is still QA. He got a larger role in QA, and the overtime was too much to apprentice. There are more QA, but I do not know their Forum names. We also have two more apprentices at this time, they do not work EQ QA, but they do work QA in the company (One is international QA, the other Platform QA) We also have an Art Lead, 5 Environmental artists, and one Character artist. I unfortunately do not know their Forum names, and I do not give out their real names unless the volunteer them. You can see a few of them on the "Talking Head" video that will be coming out.
Zatozia is community relations. Our CR person now is Piestro. Zatozia is off doing evil things to some other games for now.
Zatozia is still very much around it was her that organised all the Halloween events on each server along with the party ones we had earlier in the year. She was working with the guides, so I imagine she is the SOE contact for our Volunteer Guides. She also deals with the Mac server.
Zatozia is the EQ Mac CR person last I saw, as well as doing the actual community related things for EQ. Piestro is mainly a forum troll that was hired to combat the other forum trolls, which is why we like him, he is one of us.
Good list, thanks. I have a related question. Why do the EQ devs not use their real names? Are the names listed above the names of Everquest characters that the devs actually play? When the producer calls the systems lead designer, does he say "Hey Ngreth, this is Phathom, I need to talk to you about blah blah blah."?
1) So that people don't bother them. 2) No, if they play (lulz) they don't let players know their character names for reason #1 (among others). These are their "dev" names, if you see them, they are on their dev accounts, not a player account. 3) No, he says, "Hey Adam this is Tom..." because they actually know each other in person.
Yes, because he was on his work account and his dev avatar so he was using his dev name. He also uses other names when working on beta.
Seems kinda weird to me for computer game developers to hide behind fake names. Do they think we are gonna look them up in the phone book and call them or something? I play, and have played, many other computer games besides Everquest, and the names of the people most directly involved in creating the games (at least the ones I play) is easy to find just by visiting the company web site and/or forums. Not a big deal, just seems odd to me.
Is there really a reason for us to know their names? Look at this forum, everyone is hiding behind an avatar with a fake name and really there is no need to share real names.
